  1. I have been using F-Secure as the anti-virus at work since 2004. I have only one time seen a similar thing. It was tied directly to the web filtering component. Once that was uninstalled the errors went away. What version are you using? I have experience with F-Secure Client Security, F-Secure for Workstations and F-Secure for Servers. I have never tried the consumer version, F-Secure Internet Security, but it is closest to the Client Security version, the only difference I know of is the component that allows it to be controlled by a central server. You might also check the firewall as I have had some issues with it at times. If worst comes to worst you might try an uninstall and reinstall. If you are using the consumer version it might not allow you to uninstall single components, but if it does start with the web filtering component. I'll check back here on Monday in case you have any more questions about this. Good luck. Leland
  2. Just so you know Windows XP Home does not come from the factory set with an admin password. The password is blank and then hit enter. The only way to set a administrator password in XP Home is from safe mode. Safe mode is also the only way you can set permissions on files and directories. XP Home drives me crazy. If you must use windows and want to have the least problems XP Pro is the only way to go. As for Linux, yes, you can do everything in Linux that you can do in Windows. The main difference is you can't necessarily use Windows programs. Yoiu can use things like Crossover Office to run some Windows apps, but not all. On the plus side though there are many good open source programs that can do everything their closed source counterparts do, it just means learning something new. The best part is if there is some aspect you don't like you could always look at the code and make it work the way you want. That is the true beauty of open source. I am glad you solved your problem. I'm adding these comments to clarify what you found. Leland
  3. After looking around I found the following web page: http://www.whro.org/internet/error.shtml. On that page you will see: >0x800CCC97 POP3_POPID_OUT_OF_RANGE Message ID out of range. I'm still a bit confused as to the exact translation of what this means, but I see how having no mail may cause the problem. If anyone finds more please let everyone know. Thanks. Leland
