If anybody out there can help the new guy it would be appreciated. I have installed the latest version of gallery on the server following the directions posted on TCH. Now when I go to the url/gallery and click on login it asks me for username/pswd combo. I have tried many combinations and cannot get this to work.

Which username/pswd combination should I enter here?

Do I need to setup a .htpasswd file somewhere?

Excuse me if this has been answered already or is a braindead question. I'm new to TCH and gallery. I have searched the site and he forums but am coming up empty handed. Thanks.

Yes. I have tried this. I know initially when I proceeded through the setup, there was a place on page 2 to enter a pswd with userid of admin. When I enter this it gives me the same login box and prompts me to enter it over and over without giving me a message. I could enter it all day long and not get anywhere.

If you cannot login with the password you entered during the setup, I'd suggest running through the setup once again. Maybe there's a capslock issue or something similar? I've never had any problems with Gallery, and I've set it up a number of times.

I attempted using CAPS and it told me it was invalid. Can you confirm for me that the user id is 'admin' and the password should be the one entered on page 2 of the setup? I will try to run through set up again later.

Off the top of my head, I am pretty sure the admin username is admin, and the password should be the password you entered on the second page of the install.

I just installed gallery, and I successfully logged in with "admin" and the password I entered during install.

I only had one problem, but I don't think it's too important. I got the following error during install:

Check to see if jhead is installed so that Gallery can examine EXIF headers embedded in images created with most digital cameras.

Warning!

I can't find jhead. If it's installed and not in the path of the webserver user that's OK -- you can specify the path to jhead by hand on the following page. If it's not installed, you can install it yourself. jhead is a public domain EXIF parser. Source, linux binaries, and windows binaries can be found at the jhead homepage.

I got that too, though I ignored it. You can grab a binary version of jhead and put it in your home directory if you absolutely need it. It's all of about 35K so size isn't an issue.

Well looks like I got this to work this time. I deleted the gallery directry and reinstalled everthing. I must have missed a step along the way. I think it may have been when resecuring gallery. Thanks to all for the help. :)

Well, it's me again. I am now having trouble viewing the pictures that I upload. While uploading the pictures I get a seperate window that says it is uploading and after a while I dismiss that window. Then in the main gallery window of the album all I see is box with Red X. Anybody got any ideas. Thanks.

Additional info :

My Gallery page

I read something on the gallery site that it might have to do with a bad setting of the "albums"directory. I have mine set to:

albumDir = "/home/thedela/public_html/albums",

albumDirURL = "http://server26.totalchoicehosting.com/albums";

photoAlbumURL = "http://server26.totalchoicehosting.com/~thedela/gallery";

Does this sound correct?

It appears that the urls are set incorretly.

I believe they should be as follows:

>albumDirURL = "http://thedelahantys.com/albums/";
photoAlbumURL = "http://thedelahantys.com/gallery/"

The reason you're getting the red X is that the URLs to the image files are incorrect.
