Hello, everyone, I'm new here. Not sure if I am posting this in the correct place, but here goes.

I am trying to run a program caled Greymatter on my domain. This is a "blogging" program that requires the use of the CGI-bin. I uploaded everything correctly and set the permissions the way the instructions said, however, when I try to bring up the log-in for the program, I always get an internal server error and additionally, the page cannot be found, although it IS sitting right there in the CGI-bin with the rest of the CGI files.

I don't know what I am doing wrong and it's very frustrating. Any input would be much appreciated.

Thank you for your patience with a newbie.

Go to your cPanel and check the error log and see if it gives you any additional information. There are a lot of things than can cause an internal server error including wrong permissions and uploading the files as binaries rather than ASCII. If the instructions told you to give permissions of 777 you might try changing them to 755. If the error log says something about files being writable that would be the problem. I use Movable Type for my blog software and it works great on here and is pretty simple to set up. Give this stuff a try and good luck.

LOL, it's funny you should mention Movable Type...

I couldn't get that to work, either. :)

I'm not familiar enough with GreyMatter to help much more than basic suggestions. I can help you get Movable Type working though. I've installed it a number of times and have gotten so I can have it up and running in short order. If you want to try using it let me know and I'll be glad to help.:)

Another thing, you can run cgi files from a directory other than cgi-bin on here. I run MT from it's own directory and that simplifies the install.

That would be GREAT!!!!

Thank you so much...I still have the Movable Type program on my computer, so..anytime.

I helped her get Movable Type set up last night so all should be well.

On another note, I just got through installing Red Hat 9 on my laptop. Haven't played with it much but I'm using it now and it works great. The install was very smooth and I'm not getting the key bounce I got with the last version of Linux I put on here.
