Hi Biff

keeping in mind that ordering hosting space

and registering a domain name are seperate.

When you signed up for hosting, and your payment has gone through,

you should get a welcome e-mail within a few hours after payment verification.

Please open a help ticket, see link at top of page.

Use the user and password that you used when you ordered hosting space.

And give them all the details that you submitted for your order,

and they will get you sorted out.

Thanks Don,

I sent a ticket.

Can you tell me how to get to cpanel. I followed the instructions that came in the welcome email.

I clicked on the link in the email and I got to my site index. I clicked on the "private folder" and it asked me my username and p-word for the realm.

The realm shown was not the correct domain name. It was the domain name I first signed up with. I changed the domain name a couple hours after signing up for hosting.

Rick changed the domain to my account after I sent a ticket.

It seems like there is still some mixup with the domain names.

If you guys can get this straightened out, I'd apprecite it.

If there's something not kosher with my hosting account, please fix it for me or tell me what I need to do.

Thanks

Biff, if there is something wrong with your account,

you need to open a ticket, as the moderators here have no access to accounts.

Once it is straightened out,

there is a link in your welcome e-mail to get to your cpanel

scroll down to the area

==========================================

Control Panel

==========================================

and you will see two links.

one for http://www.yourdomain.net/cpanel

and one for the ip address before propagation.

http://209.152.171.64/cpanel (the numbers will be different and are the ip of your web server.

in your case the domain is going to be different than you welcome e-mail as you changed it,

but you get the idea on how to get to your cpanel now.

At the bottom of your cpanel there is a link to the documentation for cpanel.

Let us know if you need help figuring it out.

Thanks Don,

I figured out how to get to the cPanel. I had to click the four block address link.

I uploaded a file to public_html and was able to access it from the internet vis the four block address.

When I try to access it from the internet with the regular domain name address, I get thr "TCH Coming Soon" page.

I'm thinking the propogation period isn't complete yet.

Hey Don, does Dreamweaver's ftp file management work with your setup at TCH?

Thanks for your help.

If you are getting a "Coming Soon" message it can mean that the nameservers are set to the parked servers rather than ns1.totalchoicehosting.com and ns2.totalchoicehosting.com. If you will provide your domain name we can see what the Whois record says and check the nameservers.

Thanks Folks,

The domain name is JONJANDLEWISJ.COM

I changed the domain name right after registering under another domain name which is JBJWEBDESIGNER.COM I don't want to use this domain name, just for it to be in limbo.

I want JONJANDLEWISJ.COM as the name associated with my hosting account.

I added another post last night to the other thread I started here explaining the situation.

That thread is titled "Changining your domain name"

........

I am beginning to become very frustrated with thisl.

All I want to do is use JONJANDLEWISJ.COM as my domain name on my hosting account.

I want to get by this and use my site.

For the domain name I want to use, JONJANDLEWISJ.COM, specifically what nameservers do I use?

I don't want to use the other domain at this time, specifically, how do I set it to be, as Don said" in limbo".

Thanks, I appreciate your help.

In looking at your whois, your DNS is not set to point to totalchoicehosting

you should have received an e-mail when you registered your domain

showing how to log into you domain name control page

where you can change the DNS to

ns1.totalchoicehosting.com - 64.246.50.105

ns2.totalchoicehosting.com - 65.254.32.122

Once you have done this, its justa matter of time for all the ISP nameservers to update and you are set.

Thank You Don for your support.

I just don't know if I am getting what I'm trying to say through with text. If I could talk to live person on the phone, I am sure I could get my point across in about two minutes.

I'll try to explain in detail where I'm at.

I have been to the control panel for my domains.

I see that JONJANDLEWISJ.COM (which is the domain name I want to use) are set at:

PARK19.SECURESERVER.NET

PARK20.SECURESERVER.NET

My other domain which I do not want to use, period, for my site, is at:

NS1.TOTALCHOICEHOSTING.COM

NS2.TOTALCHOICEHOSTING.COM

I do not want this setup.

............

Can I just reverse the the above, for example:

Set JONJANDLEWISJ.COM (the domain name for my site) to:

NS1.TOTALCHOICEHOSTING.COM

NS2.TOTALCHOICEHOSTING.COM

And set the other domain to:

PARK19.SECURESERVER.NET

PARK20.SECURESERVER.NET

What does the PARK19 mean? Does that mean the domain is parked?

............

I found a phone number somewhere for the Domain Name part of the hosting. I called and I talked to a person in Arizona right after I registered the newer domain which is JONJANDLEWISJ.COM. I talked with him and explained that I previously registerd a domain name but that I changed my mind and that I didn't want to use it. I told him that I wanted to use JONJANDLEWISJ.COM as my domain name for my site at TCH. The other domain name can just hang in limbo, or whatever, and I still own it.

At the time, I was under the impression that he had set it up and everything was ready to rock.

Now, it looks like it is reversed.

I've never dealt with all these issues with domain names. When I fired up two other sites with another host, I didn't have to get into this. All they did was ask me what domain name I wanted to use and that was all there was to it. I have only done two other sites and not experienced with setting up name servers and such.

I'm glad I am learning all about this now. The next time I'll know the ropes.

I hope you can understand my position and I really appreciate your input.

Is it okay to reverse the name servers for the two domain names?

Thank you, I appreciate your help.

Biff,

I don't know all the steps you have taken, but here is what I would suggest.

1) Submit a Help Desk Ticket and let support know you want to change the domain on your account to JONJANDLEWISJ.COM.

2) Change the DNS on JONJANDLEWISJ.COM to

NS1.TOTALCHOICEHOSTING.COM

NS2.TOTALCHOICEHOSTING.COM

Now you have a choice. Even though you don't want to use JBJWEBDESIGNER.COM you have the domain for the term that you paid for. You can either change the DNS on that domain to a default DNS from the registrar (which, if someone were to go to that domain would more than likely just take them to a coming soon page) and just leave it like that.

However, since you have already purchased the domain, there is really no reason not to use it. You can use it as a parked domain. Which means that if someone were to type in JBJWEBDESIGNER.COM they would go to your site at JONJANDLEWISJ.COM.

To do that, enter another help desk ticket asking support to park JBJWEBDESIGNER.COM on JONJANDLEWISJ.COM and then change the DNS on JBJWEBDESIGNER.COM to:

NS1.TOTALCHOICEHOSTING.COM

NS2.TOTALCHOICEHOSTING.COM

Hope that helps somewhat.

GroovyFish,

I appreciate your input.

I want to use JONJANDLEWISJ.COM. That is all I want to use, nothing else for this site. Period.

Please read my last post. Can I do what I asked about reversing the name servers for the two domains.

In my last post in this thread, I asked specific questions.

That's all I want to straighten out at this point.

If I can reverse the name servers then I think the issue may finally be over..

Thank You.

Biff,

I am not sure I understand the confusion.

There are two components here, your domain(s) and hosting. They are handled separately.

Your first step (as I noted above) is to submit a help desk ticket to TCH to advise them that you want to use JONJANDLEWISJ.COM as the domain for your HOSTING account.

Then login to your domain at the registrar's site and change the JONJANDLEWISJ.COM DNS to

NS1.TOTALCHOICEHOSTING.COM

NS2.TOTALCHOICEHOSTING.COM

And there you go, that domain is all taken care of.

As far as the other domain. It's yours until the end of your contract with the domain registrar. If you don't want it to resolve to your TCH website then login to that domain and change that DNS to what the registrar's default DNS is. Then, when someone pulls up that domain, it will probably resolve to a generic coming soon page.

I don't know what that DNS is, that is information you will need to get from the registrar, so I cannot just tell you yes, switch the DNS to that park19.secureserver.net...

I'm not sure how I can explain this any better. Maybe someone else can take a crack at it.

Thanks groovyfish,

I did submit a ticket two days ago and Rick took care of changing my domain name for hosting.

I'm aware of the two separate hosting and domain things.

I'll just change the name server to my site.

I'm still in the air about name servers to the other domain?

Posted

Just log into your account for JBJWEBDESIGNER.COM and select Default Parked Name Servers. They will be changed to PARK##.SECURESERVER.NET and will resolve to the domain registrar's default parked page.

Thanks Dick,

For setting me straight. That's what I figured I should do but needed somebody to verify it.

Thanks to everyone for your input.
