mrgrld Posted September 24, 2004 Posted September 24, 2004 I have noticed on other webshosting companies like Yahoo are now offering giant webpace for like 2.5gig. Yes 2.5gigabyte for only 11bucks. I was wondering if Totalchoice is planning anytime in the future to compete with offering that much of space for as little amount of money in the future. I know the market is big, I just dont want to see Totalchoice losing customers since I like it here very much. Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted September 24, 2004 Posted September 24, 2004 I dont think they will upgrade to that much space soon since an upgrade was made a while ago. Also, what to do with so much space? Quote
TCH-Dick Posted September 24, 2004 Posted September 24, 2004 It is highly unlikely TCH will ever offer that much space for that amount of money. The reason being is to offer that kind of space for that price requires you oversell your servers very heavily. oversold servers = slow servers due to more sites on one server using FAR more resources. bellringr Posted September 24, 2004 Posted September 24, 2004 Let's compare apples to apples here. First, Yahoo customer service is the pits IMO, but aside from that, these are features that they do NOT provide with their 11.95 plan: PHP/MySQL Perl Limit of 25 e-mail addresses SSL secure server Create surveys and collect customer feedback Complete content management system If you have a site that needs that much space, chances are pretty darn good that you're going to want to use these features. Just my .02 looking at it from a newb web developer standpoint. Quote
vengavenga Posted September 24, 2004 Posted September 24, 2004 oversold servers = slow servers due to more sites on one server using FAR more resources. Absolutely ... I see this quite often. I'm a web designer and where possible I try to get clients to let me host their sites for them within my TCH reseller account. Sometimes though they already have hosting of their own, and it causes no end of problems .... In a couple of cases recently, the non-TCH hosting that I've been installing sites on has been next to useless - sloooooooooooooooow and often unavailable. Of course, you've always got to try and get the best deal that you can, however you also need to make sure that what you are buying suits your needs. Stupid analogy time .... I can buy an 8 seater people-carrier MPV for a fraction of the price of a 2 seater Ferrari. Do I need 8 seats, or would I rather settle for performance? Just my tuppenceworth! Ali. Quote
AlanV Posted September 24, 2004 Posted September 24, 2004 Stupid analogy time .... I can buy an 8 seater people-carrier MPV for a fraction of the price of a 2 seater Ferrari. Do I need 8 seats, or would I rather settle for performance? That's a good analogy. I'd rather have reliability, features, and support than save a few bucks a month. My previous host was cheaper than TCH, but was unreliable, and the support had gone downhill (it did used to be good though). In looking for a new webhost, I saw a ton of unbelievable deals, but most of them didn't offer things like unlimited subdomains, unlimited emails, mySQL, cgi, etc. And the others had bad reviews for reliability or support. ...and I just killed this topic didn't I? Every topic I post in seems to die instantly. I'm sorry!!! Quote
