  1. I just realized that the script error appears when she responds to MY Outlook Express emails, not just her own.
  2. Hi! The script errors seem appear on O.E. default screen and on stationery from this site I've highlighted. When she first sends the email it is okay, until I hit "reply" back to her and then she responds to that email. There will be a script error on that letter. I you could take a look at this website. Scroll down to the directions. Does anything in those directions look like it has the potential to be the culprit? Using "stationery" is pretty popular. I should think that everyone would be having problems with this site if that were the fault.
  3. Hi Andy! Thanks for taking the time to respond to my friend. Unfortunately her emails are still all arriving with the big script error across them that I have to delete before I can see her message. Did she perchance mention to you that she has recently installed some kind of registry cleaner and she has at some point altered her registry. I'm not sure how far back her system restore goes ... but would going back, say a month, correct any problems she might have caused by changing the resgistry?
  4. I am saddened to read this unhappy news. Don was often the first to try to rescue me from myself when I became embroiled in a computer issue. I am appreciative of his efforts. My sincere sympathy to those of you who worked closely with him and to his family who will miss him greatly. MM
  5. "It looks like the stationary she has, also has a script in it - and hence the error you are getting. " Apparently that stationery you are viewing is not one of hers ... it's just Outlook Express main background. Hmmm? So if script is turned off, would that mean she wouldn't be able to write her emails on the stationery she designs ... nor would fancy stationery arrive in her inbox the way it was sent to her?
  6. I shall immediately check with her and get back to you. Thanks!
  7. My friend is having a real problem with her outgoing emails. Whenever I get an email from her, this script error message is all across it and I have to delete it to read the email. Do you have any idea what might be causing it and what she could do to fix it. Usually she writes to me on "stationery" that she has designed herself and it looks great. All of her recent emails have just been the OE default background. She seems to think it is something to do with the registry. Thanks guys! MM
  8. What a shame we have no oars! Regards, MM
  9. Oh Bruce! Have you already forgotten my aborted attempt to set up my website on Wordpress?!!! It was so over my head. Fact is: If I ever want a real website, I will have to hire someone to make it for me. I just get overwhelmed with the whole HTML thing. It's like learning Cantonese for me. I just can't get a grasp on it.
  10. oh ya ... that one even I know!
  11. I was fiddling with my blog last night and tripped over some info on the new, supposedly "easy" webpages Google Blogger is designing (sigh, how many times I've seen that word - I know they're lying in their teeth). It looked rather appealing. I am wondering if anyone over here has had any experience with the process yet. Google Blogger also has this new blog setup that lets bloggers drag and drop various bits and pieces in and around their blog. Unfortunately the new process does not work if one has a set up like I do - where I actually publish through TCH. Bummer. Now I've got to figure out how to organize the mess I've made of my archives. Gaaaad, it's so frustrating! I've found some directions on "how" to organize everything into labels. Of course it means moving all that bloody code around, so I'm already intimidated. Cheers,
  12. Hi Dick! No, nothing is running during the scan except Shaw Secure. It runs at dawn. Having said that - there are no obvious programs running, but I just turn off the screen at night. Firefox is definitely not running. Anything that boots up and runs in the background is still running I suppose. I find it curious that it has only recently started listing these cached files. I use both Firefox and IE.
  13. I am curious. When I view the daily report my Shaw f-secure leaves for me after scanning my computer, there are at least 10 Mozilla Firefox files that f-secure cannot open. Shaw will tell me that it's nothing to fret about - but this gathering of Firefox "closed" files is new and I would like to know why they can't be opened and examined by f-secure. I can provide you with a list of the files if it would help with your reply. This is one of the 10 files in today's report. The dashes were put there by me to replace a number. "Cannot open a file in archive C:\DOCUMENTS AND SETTINGS\OWNER\LOCAL SETTINGS\APPLICATION DATA\MOZILLA\FIREFOX\PROFILES\ ------.DEFAULT\CACHE(9)\_CACHE_001)ER\LOCAL "
  14. "There is no sense in introducing trouble where none existed in my opinion." Bruce that is exactly the kind of advice I seek! Cheers!
  15. Thank you Thomas. I have followed your instructions. The two Microsoft drivers offered me the option of checking for updates, installing them and ... rolling them back if they cause havoc in the computer! I haven't touched them yet! The others were all Standard System Devices ... with no driver info that I could see. Question: Am I the only lost soul out here who isn't watching the heavens for driver updates? It seems like a rather convoluted process to make sure your various drivers are working the way they are intended to work. It would seem to me that during the use of a program there should be an alert of some kind that a download is required for the program to work properly. Am I being naive? Rob: Ah yes! I never even thought of that at the time. I've used that process before a couple of times - can't even recall the procedure now. I'll dig it up somewhere. I will certainly remember to do that if it happens again.
  16. Hi! My husband was using Skype today to make a long distance phone call. In the middle of the conversation the computer screen froze up - the computer locked up totally, there was a loud screech coming from the computer and nothing would work. I had to hit the power bar to get it going again. I've sent Skype a query. I received this message back: "These types of crashes mostly occur due to outdated drivers, Windows or application incompatibilities. Please update your: * Skype client, available from http://skype.com/download/ * Windows with the latest Service Packs and updates, available from http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ * Device (sound, video, motherboard etc) drivers (those can be found on the device manufacturer's website - contact the manufacturer/vendor of the device for more information) * DirectX - the core multimedia component of Windows. The newest version can be found at: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/default.aspx Furthermore make sure that your system is 100% free of viruses. Best would be to have the latest version of a virus scanner that can boot directly from a clean CD. Afterwards try to disable security programs, such as virusscanner / firewall / spam & worm protection before using Skype." Okay - there is no question of virus on this machine and all of my microsoft updates are complete. This is where I am out of my depth. I don't have this Microsoft Direct X10. I don't think I have it anyhoo. I don't play games on the computer and I'm wondering if it is something I need to download. I read part of their site and they do mention "sound." "Drivers" - this is where I get lost. How do I know if every driver I have is up to date? Once again, hoping you can save me from myself.
  17. I informed Shaw. They suggested "it could be that a certain function or task that IE is doing that is interfering with Shaw Secure." They told me to "watch it to see if IE 7 (which I just installed) stopped the problem" ... which it has not - or - uninstall Shaw Secure and reinstall it and do the same with IE 7 (which I don't really want to do.) I am using version 2.0. This "problem" is not stopping me from functioning on the computer ... it just bugs me that it's on my screen most mornings ... I keep sending Microsoft the notifications - and wondering what the heck they do with all those zillions of notifications they get. I must have sent them hundreds! I think I will have to get the Shaw folks on the phone and get them to walk me through reinstalling their program AGAIN. I don't like to do it without somebody holding my hand.
  18. Okay ... done! I don't see anything that is of interest to me ... but I've done my duty and downloaded the upgrade. Thanks Thomas.
  19. Hi Thomas! I have Skype. I haven't used it in months. Did you download the new version? What changes were there that you felt you needed to upgrade it?
  20. Okay ... I went back and spent about an hour updating my Microsoft Office. A gazillion files and service packs. Finally found a page of instructions that I could relate to. Thanks!
  21. Yes, I used OpenOffice for awhile. I didn't like it. I went back to MS.
  22. Hi Sam! Ya, I'm pretty savvy about that sort of thing. I used to use macros but I wont be using them anymore. Where exactly is the preference/setting you are referring to?
  23. Yes. That's where I got brain freeze.
