  1. Thanks Gail. I kind of like the way I've got it now. I've said my piece as it were, in my post. That leaves it up to my viewer (ha, I wish) to open the link. I think it is such a profound link everyone needs to hear it. Ya, ol' Gordon got himself into the odd pool of hot water over the years didn't he?
  2. so ... here is the code Bruce gave me, that I have on the page now. <a href="http://canadafreepress.com/2005/cover090205.htm">The Americans</a> You want me to insert this latest code in ... where? What does this code do?
  3. Awesome Billy!! That's a keeper! I'ts been a long time since I spent my spare time fishing for "the big one" ... but I sure remember how it felt. Really GREAT!!! Makes for some super story-telling after doesn't it? Tight lines kiddo!
  4. So would I copy this <embed src="yourmusic.mid"> <noembed> <bgsound src="yourmusic.mid"> </noembed> ... this would automatically play the sound? I don't want to give anyone a "choice" ... I want it to play. Would this make the music in the background of his speech clearer? I checked it out the way it is and I can hear a slight slurring in the music when it plays via my website. Looking up above at Bruce's code ... where exactly do I insert this new code. Between which words? What exactly does this little code do that improves the music?
  5. Oh nooooooooooo!!!
  6. Thanks Bruce. I'm feeling rather smug that I have actually managed to get this "link" on my website. Like this is progress Man!!! It's a pretty kewl speech isn't it? Ol' Gordon sez it like it is. So, how do I get my links to show up on every post instead of just the most recent one?
  7. Okay ... I'm not sure if I'm understanding you right ... but I've got it on my link now. Take a look and check it out ... please. Is what I've done to this point legal?
  8. Thanks Bruce. Can I not acknowledge that speech as given by Gordon Sinclair if I copy it into an actual post ... it is a speech copied and re-copied many times by various media. It was a public speech? So ... are you saying that the best way for me to use it is to simply have a link over on the side of the blog and not to use it as a post?
  9. There's a website I want to link to my website. This particular website opens with an audible speech. I've tried going into my blog template and adding the url but it is not showing on my blog. This is what I want to do: Where the link section is, I want to have the title "The Americans" when I click on it I want this site to open http://canadafreepress.com/2005/cover090205.htm and the speech to play out loud. The other way I was thinking of doing it was to actually do a new post called "The Americans" and when I click on the title of the post ... this website would open and the audio would start. I'd like to be able to insert the written speech (I've copied it already) myself so that I see it on my screen and not all the other clutter on the original website. I was thinking I would just insert an animation at the top I have of crossed American and Canadian flags. Okay ... so now that I've given you the big explanation of my vision ... can you type out what I have to do to get what I want?
  10. Hi Don ... thanks for the note. I have been spending faaarrrr too much time reading the new book and trying to get a grasp on things. Gail has been super helpful. I found a very helpful website yesterday. I can't recall if someone told me to go there or if I just tripped over it ... but ... I arrived. It's called W3 schools on line. The site is very educational. It even lets me practice right on the site and then click and view what I've created. I'm impressed! What I'm am discovering is that I DO look at HTML pages and I DO see code that I understand now. Well, sort of. As you can see by my website ... I am having a lot of fun just with my blog. I'm able to do pretty much all I want to do right in the Google Blog. I can write my stories and add animations or photos to them and I'm happy! I think I messed up my archives when I tried to change the order of my stories. Of course I couldn't remember the original dates ... so I couldn't get them back to square one. Live and learn.
  11. Paul, Thanks so much for your heroic attempt to increase my knowledge of this rather vast subject. As I just wrote to "Gail," one of the TCH members, I am completely flummoxed! Yesterday I purchased Elizabeth Castro's 5th Edition HTML ... I was in a sweat just reading the index. I've read 55 pages. I've used my highlighter. I have understood a minute amount. Frankly I am in AWE of the so-called "geeks" who understand this language. I bow to you! Everyone says it's a tough start for them. Whew, they aren't kidding. I'll keep plodding away. So far I understand that XHTML is what I should be learning because it is the future. That's a start.
  12. Tks David. I fiinally tripped over Archives in the help section (if all else fails huh?). I read it over - understood "some" of it. I have re-entered the blank and selected "Monthly." Hopefully that will take care of the now dysfunctional archive list. I'm really hesitant to start messing with codes. I haven't the vaguest clue what I'm doing yet, and I don't just want to mess everything up. The more I study the subject, the more confused and over my head I feel. This HTML stuff is REALLY difficult to understand.
  13. Thanks Don. I have opened that program but am really having difficulty figuring out just how to take a .gif or .jpg file into that program and replace its background with a clear view. Can you give me any descriptions as to what exactly I have to do once I get into the program? Perhaps you could take an animation of yours with a white background and open it in the program and see just what I have to do to erase the white. I find all the terms in the program very foreign. I just don't get it! Once I am able to do one animation ... I will be able to take it from there.
  14. In my Google blog ... which in its entirety is my website at this point ... there is a list of dates running down the right side of the page. I only want a list of the posts I have added to my original blog. I don't want those numbers because they are all messed up since I started fiddling with my blog to re-arrange the way the posts open on the website. Can I go into the edit mode and just remove the codes ... if so, which ones? Will that removal effect the order of the posts? How can I have the posts that open on my blog open in the order I want them to rather than when I added them to the blog? I really messed them up when I took it upon myself to simply go into edit and change the dates at the bottom.
  15. Hi y'all! Gail has suggested that this is the spot I need to be to get some of the plethora of questions I have about my website, answered. I want to add an animation to one of the posts in my blog. However, the animation has a white background and I want a clear background. Do you have any idea how I can change that ... or is it impossible as I did not design the animation.
  16. You made me chuckle out loud! That's EXACTLY how I feel! Folks might have been somewhat suspicious when they read my first post ... but once they read my blog, I'll have convinced them!
  17. Well, having said that ... and eager to press on ... I leapt into the breach once again and altered the dates on my post so that they would read in order ... which of course has completely messed up my archives (I think that's what they are) ... now the list that appears beside the posts is whacko! I checked my website and one of the posts is GONE and the latest one ... that suddenly has its picture in place of the d-r-x ... is not even listed! I think I'll just go out in the garden and eat worms.
  18. Okay, I'll give that a try. I just posted another story and discovered when I went to review it that the photo is no longer appearing. I'm getting the dreaded red X. My photos in my other posts are all fine. I had put this particular story into draft mode because I want it at the end of my blog rather than at the beginning. Why am I getting the d-r-x all of a sudden on that story?
  19. Hi Gail! Thanks! How do I put the stories I put in my blog in the order I want them to appear on my website? I don't want them listed in the order I posted them.
  20. Hi Gail et al: Well, you're not going to believe it: I actually have my very own mrsmuddled.com website ... and it's working! I am dreadfully pleased. I really must apologize (although I don't know why ... it's just something I do) for blathering on ... and on about my inability to "get started." I was reading so much "stuff" my brain was hurting. Apparently I was missing the forest for the trees. I really thought I was all signed up and ready to roll. Nope. I had just signed up for my domain name and my pay pal and ... something else that I've already forgotten. Could be two weeks at girl guide camp for all I know! Somehow I'd totally missed the fact that I needed to sign up with TCH and pay the monthly bill! Arghh! No wonder I couldn't figure out what the heck everyone was talking about when they'd give me suggestions. I'd never received a WELCOME letter! I was still "un-welcome" for Pete's sake! Anyhow, now I'm on first base and the rest will come ... bit by bit. MM P.S. I lied when I said I would probably disappear. I wont. I'm too dumb to be out here all alone.
  21. Well, I think you might have given me the directions I needed. Somehow I managed to totally avoid the actual "sign up" with TCH. I have no idea how this happened, considering the eleventy zillion pieces of paper I have surrounding me at this desk ... all of which have to do with either pay pal or TCH! So, now I await THE WELCOME LETTER that y'all have been referring to ... then I shall slip back into oblivion (hopefully). Y'know what? It's just too much information and my head is too small. MM
  22. Hi Don and Bruce: It appears I have no welcome letter. I have tried accessing the help desk and my posts are rejected ... I can't fill in one of the blanks so it bounces me out. The only welcome letter I have is the Welcome to Domain by Proxy. I can't find anything with numbers like you describe Don. None of them have dots in between the numbers. MM
  23. Don, I am unsure what to enter as my server IP .... Perhaps this "welcome" letter that I am looking at is not what you are describing. There is nothing on it that looks like what you are referring to. Is the header YOUR ORDER CONFIRMATION? Can you type out EXACTLY what you mean, using my new website name www.mrsmuddled.com? MM
  24. I have sent an email to "Eric" in support. I'm still sitting here, unable to progress further. Eric apparently found my original email confusing ... so I may not be expressing the problem adequately. This is probably something really obvious to those who have originally started with a Google blog and then decided to get a webpage of their own. Gail has been great at sending me emails with directions ... but I think we are stumped at the moment ... and I don't want to keep bugging her. On the Welcome email that comes from TCH there is a number next to my login name. Is that going to work just the same as a name when I'm filling in the blanks? Anyhow ... I need to be walked through this set up ... so I can at least get started with my webpage. MM
  25. 001 java.net.UnknownHostException: ftp.mrsmuddled.com This is the error I am getting from Google when I try to bring my Google blog onto my new website (that is not open yet). What am I doing wrong? MM
