that sounds odd.. i've just created a directory in cpanel's filemanager and chmodded it to 666,777,etc and it worked. what kind of disconnection error code does smartFTP give you? (the log-view panel would have to be enabled to see it)

i agree with dognamedmoses, i think the servers don't use microsoft's asp and microsoft's database stuff.

login name and password is case sensitive i think. make sure u are using the right case (eg. username isn't the same as Username) it will help if u could tell us what the error message is tho..

eh? You can specify a sub\sub dir for ftp user.. when u create the ftp user, look at the little box after the password box. and yes, u can disable indexing of /public_html/*.* using the proper htaccess codes.

thanx, it occurred shortly after to use some script instead. it's too bad cpanel doesn't give a few more options for those ftp accounts tho.

i'd like to make a small ftp (or other) upload space for people to upload pictures and alike. but i don't want to give them 100% of my server space (which seems to be the case when i create an ftp account). is there a way to limit the space usage for the ftp account?

I experieneced this very recently as well in pointing my domain to here. if it is indeed my isp, then i find it odd that my isp would update,un-update their dns cache within a matter of seconds of me flushing my local dns cache and requesting a resolve again. this has happened to me a few times even after reboot. i would get the right IP resolved but come back in a few seconds and get the old host IP again. a dns flush would once again solve it. mind you, this only happened near the beginning of my 12-74 hour propagation period. on multiple computers on different ISPs. and even reports from my members. i think you are correct in saying that it is a waiting game. there's not much you can do anyways during the 'fuzzy' period. it probably is just the ISPs messing with us

kinda off, but have you considered an htaccess solution?

the problem really resides on your own computer. flush the dns cache and you will point to the new host. any trace of the old dns from cache or history will result in you 'switching back' to the old 0catch. empty your cache and history and run "ipconfig /flushdns" on the winxp/2000 commandline and that should fix u up.

you can install just about any guestbook or forum script (program) that you want

u are probably using the wrong database name and/or loginname. if you are on shared hosting, your username is automatically prepended to the names which you choose like userid_YOURDB userid_LOGINNAME.. (you choose these names when u created the db and assigned a user to them in cpanel) check to see if u got that right first..

for phpbb in cpanel (origin), just go to backup and backup the database that the forum is using then restore it in the same 'backup' screen on the new cpanel (destination) copy all files in the forum dir to the new host edit config.php and change the db, username, and password. chmod any files u may need to chmod for security the end.
