You could put a server on their own network, but then you have to worry about server administration (including hardware, operating system, mail server, etc.) administration, server security, network security, and network availability all yourself. And I personally (as a member of the Internet community) have just as much opportunity to hack that server as I do to hack the server TCH hosts. The difference is that TCH does this stuff for a living and they seem to be pretty good at it. If I was concerned about TCH techs reading my email I wouldn't host my sites here and I wouldn't host other people's sites here. I'm sure the TCH techs have other things to do, and like Bruce said, they would only do it if required by law. So don't do anything illegal that might get you busted. When you assess a security solution you need to look at the value of what you are protecting vs. the cost of protecting it. What are they sending in the email? Financial information? Government secrets? Or did they watch the news last night and there was a story about identity theft or something and now they're just being overly paranoid. Have to find the balance. A good place to start is strong passwords. That's usually the easist and most important place to start. Letters, numbers, special characters, nothing that can be found in any dictionary in any language, and so on. If they don't have secure passwords, it doesn't matter how secure the server is or who else can look at the files.

I agree with that. The whole "using AJAX for the sake of using AJAX" trend is getting ridiculous. Stupid "Web 2.0." Not so compatible with the browser on my Palm Treo, so ultimately I ended up dropping WP completely on my main site. Not going to stick with an old version, and the writing is on the wall in regards to future versions. But I digress. Paul, if you want to check your version you can look in /wp-includes/version.php.

I'm solar powered so the more sun the better. Guess some rain is good for us, I was just looking forward to getting home and getting some kayaking time in this weekend. Suppose instead I'll be sitting inside all weekend wondering what the big announcement is going to be next week.

Yah, they are pretty great (with the exception of driving us nuts with announcements like this). You could find cheaper webhosting with more bandwidth elsewhere (hard to imagine, but it's true), but those hosts won't match the support you get here from both the staff and the mostly volunteer forum. I'm more than happy to give these guys my money month after month. Welcome to the family, and if you ever have any questions about pretty much anything, you know where to find us.

Every time I read this thread, which is several times per day, I check today's date to see if it's the 15th yet. So far, no luck. What could it be? More disk space? More bandwidth? Another datacenter? Or is it something crazy like servers with PHP5 available? Or a dedicated server blowout? Or RAID5 for everyone? Or something less exciting, like Windows hosting? Seriously, who puts their customers through this on purpose?

You can configure Outlook to leave the messages on the server for a period of time (I use 7 days), or forever until you delete them through webmail. That way you can download them to whichever computer and you can also access them through webmail if you're at a different computer.

Why do you suspect the capacitors? If you don't get any beeps or lights on the board you might want to start with the obvious and check the power supply to make sure it's putting voltage out to the board. Also make sure your power button is actually connected to the motherboard (had that happen once when I was messing around in the case). Just watch out for static electricity and don't get yourself electrocuted when you're messing with the power supply.
