Thanks Bruce. I haven't done a lot of cron-jobbing. I will try it out.

I have the latest drupal installed (5.1), and am trying to figure out the code to run a cron job. Specifically, I need to run mysite/drupaldirectory/cron.php I know things that won't work, and I've seen general advice about running cron jobs here. But I am wondering if anyone has specifics on how to get this cronjob to run. Thanks

Not sure...I had Thunderbird 2 Release Candidate 1, and when I asked it to check for updates, it found none.

Sometimes there can be some lag time between when an update is released and when that update becomes available on Fantastico. If you know an update has been released, and especially if you know that the update addresses security issues, you might not want to wait for Fantastico.

Expression Web, I think, is pretty nice. It is able to work with your site using FTP, or using FrontPage extensions...take your pick. My recommendation, if you are thinking about buying Expression Web, is to download Microsoft's free trial (I believe it's a 90-day trial), and see if it meets your needs. Thomas' nvu recommendation may be a gentler step into web publishing, and may suit your needs just fine.

I believe Bruce's point (and I've no doubt his reply will follow immediately if I'm incorrect) is that even though it is possible to have e-mail sent to an e-mail account that has the same name as your CPanel username, it is not recommended. Rather, you should: 1. Log into your CPanel. 2. Click e-mail 3. "Add an account"...don't set it up to forward to some other e-mail address...just add the account. Then, once you've added the account: 4. Configure Thunderbird with a new account that matches the username (which must INCLUDE your domain name) and password that you just set up in CPanel. Bruce's link walks you through this step.

Outlook has a "server timeout" setting that you can set to a higher time limit if you are having trouble sending a large file. As Bruce said, 12MB may upset recipients. Depending on the kind of file, you might consider compressing its size with a zip utility before sending it.

If you configure e-mail for your CPanel username, then the username isyour CPanel username and CPanel password. However, if you add e-mail accounts, and then wish to configure the e-mail for those accounts, then the username you enter for TB (or any e-mail client), will be: user@ your domain (or user+ your domain) In other words, you must include whatever your domain name is as part of the e-mail address IF you are getting e-mail for any account OTHER THAN your CPanel username account (in that case, you can omit your domain name from the username). And the passwords would be whatever you assigned when you created that e-mail account. I know there are some tutorials floating around here that can help with other configuration issues. (My message may not come through correctly as the forums are set to mask domain names)

And just to reiterate...aside from making sure passwords are secure, you really need to keep up with any updates to phpbb as soon as they are released. phpbb seems to be a common target for hacks. I believe that when you log in as admin on phpbb, it will tell you if there are any updates available at the bottom of the page. Good luck getting to the bottom of this.

Students and faculty in our department can get the business edition free. So I installed the upgrade. It took a few hours, and then gave me an error message that it couldn't complete the installation. An hour or so later, it had rolled back to XP Pro. After a little research, I suspected that the problem was caused by having Microsoft's IIS web server running. So, I uninstalled it, and went through the 4-hour process again. Success. But I did not like what I perceived as a slower running system, and all the new popups, and the fact that no proper driver existed for my HP printer (and that HP didn't seem to be racing to update it). So, I rolled it back, never getting a real chance to appreciate any "pros" that might have been. My system is about 18 months old, with 1GB RAM. I may upgrade to 2GB and see if there's a difference.

I will correct you ....it's still on my fantastico. I'm figuring it's there by mistake, but if it's on my server it may be scattered on a few others by mistake as well. Let me know if you need the server number so that it can be removed.

I hadn't realized we had that. I'm using IMAP, so I checked and it looks like we can use 993 for IMAP SSL as well. Very nice!

Microsoft is apparently done wrestling with FrontPage as well. They've replaced it with a new product, Expression Web, which is quite nice. But, the free site builder that is coming our way may be all you need!

Thanks Madman, for the clarification and the EULA link. The things I have been installing have been pretty consistently the same in terms of number of installs, but your message is a good reminder to me to keep reading the EULAs. Thanks again.

Actually, the EULA for Microsoft Office 2007 Professional (assuming it is no different than the one I read when I installed mine) specifically addresses the issue of installing it on a portable device such as a laptop. It specified that the user may install an additional copy on a portable device. I've found that most of Microsoft's EULAs say the same. Of course, the above is not meant to be legal advice. You should read the terms to be sure, but I am quite sure that you can legally install it on your desktop and your laptop. The second desktop, I'm guessing, would be a violation.

And for those of you who like to risk beta software, Thunderbird 2.0 beta 2 is out. I've tried it with Mozilla's Lightning calendar add-on...very nice!
