  1. Hello. Man, I am so glad you're here. If you can't answer my question, at least it is a place to start. I am adding links to my website, and one of my webmaster friends told me to go to Link Trader Pro and install it in order to monitor the reciprocal links on my website. I went into the cPanel, and created a database. I am not sure if it is done correctly. 1) Three sections: Databases: Users: Access Host: I set up the database name: queenpi_Link Tracking The next thing is Access Hosts: I don't know what to do with that. 2) Next I am supposed to create a new directory in my server: I'll call it "Links" when I create it. I am not sure where to set up the new directory. Do I put it in my public_html folder???? 3) Then I am to upload all files to this directory. What files could that be? I did download the Link Trader Pro program, is that what they mean by "all files"? Or do I upload some other files? 4) The next step is to CHMOD 777 the following files/folders: install.pho /admin/backups/ I guess by this time I'll know what there are. 5) Next, I am to run the self-installation file www.queenpictoria.com/Links/install.php. 6) Fill in the database information and your link back url. Link Back Url: This is the url you want your partners to link back to Admin Username: Enter the Admin username of your choice Admin Password: Enter the Admin password of your choice Database Username: Your MYSQL database username Database Password: Your MYSQL database password Database Name: Your MYSQL database name Database Host: Keep this as 'localhost' 7) Log in to the admin panel using username & password. www.queenpictoria.com/Links/admin/ 8) I'll be able to find my links homepage at: www.queenpictoria.com/Links/php.index 9) After installation delete install.php Is this self-explanatory? ----------------------------------- This is all new, and I don't know if this topic is outside the venue here. I don't know what I am doing. I may have to mess it up first and then get it right. That's usually how it happens for me. I'll soak up any info you can provide. I guess step 1 is a good place to start. It is not a small thing, this website business. I want to do it well. Thanks. queenpictoria
  2. Hello Bruce, I see your cPanel. My cPanel does not have SpamAssassin. Thanks, queenpictoria
  3. Hello DWD, Would you be willing to let me see your webpage so I can see your format results?
  4. Hello. I have been at this website business for less than a year. One of the things I really love about it is that I am learning so much. I get stuck and then move to the next level. Very nice. This time, I am not sure there is anywhere to go. I have signed onto 50+ webrings, and can't seem to get any sense of what I am doing. For several weeks, I had one webring navigational bar on my home page. It was a very nice one, and I was glad it was there. I inquired to the support at webring.com about how this all works. Their explaination pages are very wordy and seem to assume I know more than I do. Their forums don't work, and I have tried to get clarity about them. This topic is not intended to be outside the scope of this forum. I really need to know if I should drop them. I opened my website the other night and everything was shifted all over the place. WHEW!!! Man, I was upset! I looked at the bottom of my home page and there was a trail of dozens of navigational bars going on and on... How absolutely ridiculous!!! It wasn't like this until this week. Immediately, I went in and took the webring script out of my website. I submitted a question about this to webring. No reply. So here's the question: Is there any one navigational bar that can be applied to a website that would encompass all my chosen webrings? Why would someone want to look at all of those nav bars? I really don't want this type of layout. I don't mind a nav bar or two, but this looks really clunky and quite frankly, is an eyesore. I am sure this question has been brought up before, I just can't find the FAQs regarding them. So the webrings don't all connect, do they? Anyway, my questions have questions...I don't know...thought I did. Probably wasted a lot of time signing up on webrings. Any direction or experience out there? I'm sure there is. Could someone please straighten me out? Thanks, queenpictoria
  5. Thanks for letting me know about Boxtrapper. So then now I am back to square one. I am wanting to setup an anti-spam program of some kind. I am tired of the drugs and sex solicitation. What does TCH offer? I don't see the SpamAssassin. The tutorial mentions an "Email" location with a button at the bottom of some page I cannot find. I don't know what they are talking about. Please be patient with me about this. I want to do this correctly. Any direction is greatly appreciated. Thanks, queenpictoria
  6. Hello. I have been doing some checking on SpamAssassin, and found a tutorial. In the tutorial I was directed to something in the cPanel that is not there (at least I could not see it). I see "Boxtrapper". Is this the new SpamAssassin? I need to program my webmail to catch and stop as much spam as possible. It is amazing that even if I don't give out the email, I get spam. Anyway, I need some guidance on how to set up Boxtrapper if it is infact the new SpamAssassin. Thanks.
  7. Hello Don, Thank you for the clarification. Does this blank index.html page work in any folder in the public_html folder? I am sure I wouldn't put one directly under public_html or it would block my website..is that right? Thanks, queenpictoria
  8. Hello. Here we have a continuous situation with my webmail. I have gone through the setup and allowed everything I can see. There must be something I am not doing. I am in the process of leaving OE and going to another email client. However, whenever I check the Squirrel email, I get this all the time. I am missing important emails. How do I make adjustments so this will not happen? I don't want to use Horde or NeoMail. Please advise. Surely, this is not normal. Thanks,
  9. How does having a blank index.html folder in your images folder help? Does that mean ....I mean....what does that mean. Does the data on the real index.html folder duplicate itself in the blank one automatically? I am sure they do not. Maybe I need to do some reading. Thanks.
  10. I am so glad you fixed this for poor Eric. What a stress attack! You guys are like EMTs. Thanks for your quick help. I have some folo-up questions: Is it good to have a blank index.html file in the folder? Isn't the public_ftp file good for backups? What is the public_ftp file for anyway? Thanks, queenpictoria
  11. Please add our website to TCH's Family of Sites. 1. http://www.queenpictoria.com 2. Queen Pictoria's eStation 3. Innovative information, and creative atmosphere for digital photography. 4. Commercial Site 5. We have posted a required link on our website back to TCH. Thanks for your consideration.
  12. Yes, it only does it on certain pages I am building. I have changed a background file and it seemed to cut it down more, but it still happens on my webpages..and just on my computer. Dell could not diagnose it.
  13. Hello. I am working toward submitting my website to the TCH Family. In the directions, it stated: My website is at a point where is has a sense of completeness, but we are designing new pages as I write. When or what characteristics does TCH require to consider a website complete? Thank you.
  14. Hello. I want to Password Protect some of the files in my public_html file. I set a password according to the CPanel->Password Protect Directories path. So, now, how do I check to tell the file is protected. I was told this is one way to protect private material from being indexed by webcrawlers. Any tutorials? I've just become some kind of tutorial junky lately! Thanks,
  15. I am new and just haven't absorbed all the content just yet. I am submitting my new website to search engines and I get the following comment: "This site does not provide robots.txt file or it is not constructed properly." I made a folder named "robots.txt" in my public_html folder on the domain, and have meta tags on each page: <meta name="robots" content="index, follow"> I am not sure what I am doing-- behind the curve a bit. I am reading the information suggested, and it hasn't sunk in just yet. A primer would be appreciated. I am working on being patient with myself, and I hope I don't ask too much. Please let me know how I can correctly install the robots.txt file. Also please let me know if I am asking too much. I am old enough to know how that works. Help/Support threw me back in the swim. Thanks,
  16. Don, Your view is valuable to me. Thanks.
  17. Marie, What does the link look like in order to give you the option to open it in a new window? I know I can right click and the drop-down window gives that option, but some don't know about that, and others may not want to right click. My aim is to have my website be a pleasant experience. Thanks for the reply.
  18. I have installed Thunderbird twice now, but don't seem to know how to set it up. I wish there was a good tutorial. I need list distribution and multi-email download capability. Currently I am on Pegasus because my coach is. I like the feel of Thunderbird, but the path to getting setup is not clear to me. Thanks,
  19. Thank you srapham and David. This forum is so great!
  20. OOOhhhh. Now I know why the link opens in an already existing open window. Thank you so much.
  21. This causes me to think. Is your call on this because it demonstrates excess? Sometimes when I am on a site, I have trouble getting back to the home page. Maybe I am overdoing it. Hmmmm... Thanks for looking for me.
  22. I understand. I need to strike a balance so the viewers don't lose the site by closing a window. It is hopefully more friendly to have a new window than it is when I click on a site and it won't let me leave them. I have to shut down the page and start over. New windows could be a crunch for those with small amounts of memory. This is important to me because I need to get the code down, and keep the viewer's ease in mind. Thanks for your reply.
  23. Hello. Last week I uploaded a picture showing how my computer does this rippling, smear effect. The picture is attached here again. I called my local computer technician and he confirmed what you folks said: that it was a video card or graphic card problem (I assume they are one in the same). So Dell is coming out this week to replace my graphic card and the motherboard. So, this is my question now.... I only have this "smear" effect happen on two pages of my website. I don't see it anywhere else when I go online. I don't even see this happen when I look at other pages of my website. Could it be a code thing? A lot of the code is very simular to other pages on my website. I don't see how it could be. You can look for yourself if you'd care to. This is an obstacle for me right now and I cannot imagine anybody wanting to mess with this. It just seems to me that if the computer's video card was going out, ALL of the browsers would be going haywire. My website: http://www.queenpictoria.com First problem page ("Camera Accessories" link from home page): http://www.queenpictoria.com/CP/CP1.html Second problem page (Link from "Camera Accessories" page): http://www.queenpictoria.com/CP/aCam1.html Maybe this will all stop once the video card is exorcised. Thanks very much.
