  1. That's a very interesting idea... Seems a bit like what Paypal does, except in a better way. People might not like it if they have to keep creating cards though... because people care more about convenience than security (unfortunately)
  2. I have about 15 accounts (Yes, I use them all) that check every 20 minutes. I'm pretty sure it's per account.
  3. No one can compete with Google Kinda cheap that it doesn't even have its own index...
  4. *waits*
  5. A subdomain's advantage is that you can access it through both URLs (since a subdomain is a third-level-domain linked to a subdirectory). I always use subdomains when I'm designing a new part of my site But it's really all preference.
  6. Once you park a second domain, you can do things to it like your first domain, I believe. Most cpanel functions have a dropdown menu for the domain. If you have a parked domain, you can choose from them there.
  7. Hey, questions are good! That's how you learn With my first domain, I had the same questions.
  8. Mine is a .org and it propogated within 5 minutes for me when I transferred here. TCH is just good luck
  9. Wow, big difference :-P Yeah, I was wondering why it was so expensive, but assumed it was because you just wanted everyone to upgrade plans when they needed more space. $1.75 per 100 MB is worth it
  10. Happy anniversary Great pic.
  11. Offering anything for a fee is in violation of the AUP for a standard hosting plan. You may not conduct hostee or offer free web hosting to people based on your subdomains. So that should be "fee" ? (It's a typo in the AUP then, if it is) I was confused by that... I read it and thought I couldn't have hostees, so I spent a day transferring my hostees to a different host
  12. Any database can go with any script or subdomain, it all depends on the database name you provide the script with. The name you use to create the database is the database name you need (with fantasy_ before it). After you create the database, you create a new user and password (or simply reuse a old one, although this becomes confusing). This is the username ans password you need (with fantasy_ before it). Host address I believe is just localhost.
  13. I've only been with TCH for a few days, but I'm already impressed by the services. This is my first domain, and originally it was hosted with PinchPenny. Things were good, for a while. The support was great, the hosting was reliable. Then, things started to go downhill. Support requests started taking days to get responded to (if you got a response at all), and there was sportatic downtime. Following a server crash in which some users lost all of their files, and PP lost its customer database, I decided I needed to move, so I tried Host Affection. Following a very screwy website transfer, none of my php pages would work, none of my scripts would work, and I couldn't get any answers. My cpanel name was different, resulting in me having to edit all the paths in all of my files, and having to change the database names. Even after a week of "fixing" my site, nothing worked, and I was getting 500 server errors everywhere. The support didn't seem very sincere, even if they were responsive. Nothing was done to help me. So, I moved back to PP, where I stayed for another couple months. After the server crash, PP transferred to a new owner, and things were once again great. Then, there were issues. The new servers were having problems with propogation. Sites on them were constantly down. The support, although very strong at first, gradually dropped. Then, the horror stories began. Problems with the server techs, problems with unsatisfied customers. The forums were removed after a hacker did a mass email from the admin account. After reading a few posts on PP issues on various boards, I was scared. My website means the world to me, and I plan to have it up 3, 4, or 5 years from now, keeping my friends updated on my life. My email address is used for correspondence from my University. I needed something I was absolutely sure I could count on. After extensive researching (so I wouldn't go through the same thing as with Host Affection), I discovered one post on Total Choice Hosting. That one post led to hundreds more, about 99% of which were positive. I checked the site and couldn't believe the prices. I checked various other websites and couldn't believe that there could be so many satisfied customers from a webhosting company. I sent in a few questions, and they were answered almost immediately. So, I took the plunge and signed up, then requested a transfer. The entire process took less than a day. At around 10 AM, I signed up for hosting. By noon, my account was ready. I requested a complete website transfer early in the afternoon, then left with some friends. When I got home, the website was transferred. I changed my nameservers, and everything repropogated within an hour. By 5 PM that day, I was looking at my website on a new server. It was fast. It was up. I was paying less. And, most importantly, everything worked perfectly. I'm very impressed with Total Choice Hosting. The boards are busy, contain a wealth of information, and have staff members actually checking constantly, keeping everyone up to date and answering questions. The helpdesk has an amazing response time. The hosting itself is quick, very cheap, and reliable (from what I've seen so far). I've already recommended you to some of my friends, and they're considering you when their hosting term with their current host is up. Great job, TCH! I hope to be hosted with you for years to come.
  14. Oh, okay I thought the AUP said that you weren't allowed to host people in subdomains at all... Thanks!
  15. I got both hostees moved off now... I just need an answer on the email
  16. I know the AUP says you're not allowed to have hostees, so I'm in the process of moving my two hostees to another host. (Unless you're allowed under certain circumstances... in which case, would someone please correct me? ) Can you give me one or two days leeway on this policy? Also, am I allowed to host an email account for one person? He's my best friend, and he wanted an email account on my domain. He uses it as his main email address now... and I don't want to make him switch to another address (I know how much I hate doing that). I already submitted this question on the helpdesk (about two days ago, actually), but no response yet.
  17. You bought FW and got Illustrator with it? That's strange... those are by two different companies. (But yes, Illustrator is an amazingly powerful program. Its Macromedia relative is Freehand, which is almost as good) Anyway, I think it depends on the kind of website you're creating. I personally use Photoshop because I do a lot of photo editting, and I use photos and effects a lot in my web design. Photoshop is more a true image manipulator, but you pretty much have to do everything from scratch. Fireworks is great for plain web design though. If you're doing general sites with buttons and graphics, FW makes everything a lot easier to edit. It has preset objects for buttons and navigation bars. Fireworks makes tasks such as changing a button background easier, since it can store objects with different values and leave them edittable. Um... yeah. That's my two cents Even if I am a little late.
