  1. I hope this is the right board to post this question. I have a forum with smf and when I went to it today, I got this warning message about the cache directory not being writable. I didn't make any changes to the forum so I was wondering if this has anything to do with my database.
  2. Thanks for the visual showing me what you did. And yes, I am trying to install this from Softaculous.
  3. I want to install this on my website but I'm not sure how to do it. I know I have to install the software and when I click on it to install it, the first line is asking for the url. It shows my domain but the next space is for a directory. I don't know if I'm supposed to put it in a directory and if so, is this a directory that I've created? It has a line for administrator email. Do I change what's there to an email I use? Right now it's showing admin@mydomain. I've never used that. Under the advanced tab, it shows a database name. Do I use what's there and if so, do I have to have to give it a password? There's no line for password so would I have to create one some place else? Sorry for sounding so dumb.
  4. Thanks so much for explaining how to do this. It was easy.
  5. I created a page on my site and decided I wanted to change the name because the name is too long. Is it possible to change the name but if people type in the old name it will go directly to the new name?
  6. Is there still a plug in for creating a photo gallery and if so, where can I find it?
  7. I got that solved but now I have another password problem but it doesn't have to do with cpanel so I'll post my problem in another forum.
  8. Now I really feel stupid. I figured I'd try the password one more time and realized I used a capital letter when it should have been lower case. I guess I didn't lose my password after all.
  9. Thank you. I see I should have read that password line a little more carefully since they said the exact same thing you said. I guess I just panicked when I noticed they were asking for a password. I've submitted a ticket so hopefully this will get straightened out. In the meantime, I had looked all over again for my password and I thought I found it only every time I typed it in I got a message saying invalid. Maybe I changed it and forgot to write down the new password.
  10. I know this is an old post but I have the same problem. I'm always so good about writing down my passwords but some how or other I lost my cpanel password. I just restored my computer back to factory settings so I need to put in my password again for cpanel and I can't find it. I was going to submit a ticket, but they want my password but since I can't find it and I forgot what it was, I don't know how to submit a ticket. I don't know what to do.
  11. Thanks for that link. Now I'm a little worried that some of my passwords could have been compromised.
  12. Thanks. I actually downloaded one called winscp and it seemed to work ok. It was free and didn't look as if it loaded any spyware.
  13. I don't use Firefox but if there's no other choices, I can look into it. Thanks for your suggestion.
  14. I used to use Filezilla to upload my files to my site. I haven't had to use it in a long time because I do most of my work and uploading in Dreamweaver. I needed to use it yesterday but had to do a new download. After downloading it, first it didn't work and more importantly, it installed malware. I have since removed it and ran some malware software that got rid of 714 items all related to the software that installed when I installed Filezilla. Can someone recommend a good ftp program, preferably one that's free?
  15. Thanks for the answer. Sounds like this is something that's way over my head.
  16. I would like to create a database that includes peoples names, addresses, and phone numbers. Is that something that I can be done on TotalChoice?
  17. Thanks so much. That did help me a lot. The server name kind of threw me. I thought I needed to know what server totalchoice was on and then I just wasn't sure what needed to go in each of the fields. When I set this all up, my web url automatically showed up but with /public_html/ at the end. I assume that's because that's where all my files get stored. I tested it out and it said I was successful. Now I just need to figure out how to actually use Dreamweaver and create my site with it. I've been using Microsoft Expression Web 4 and actually like it but I saw an add that said Dreamweaver had the WYSIWYG editor and lets you create pages that can be used on various devices so I thought I'd buy it. I think I'm going to head to a book store today and find a dummy book to help me figure out how to use the program. I am totally lost.
  18. I just bought Dreamweaver to design my website and I have to set up the server in order to upload it to my site but I have no idea what to put in each line. It first asks for a server name and I don't know what that should be. Then it says connect using ftp. Next it asks for the ftp address and shows 21 for the port. I know what to put for username and password. Then it asks for a root directory and a web url. I figure my website is what I use for url but I don't know what I'm suppose to use for anything else. I hope someone here can help me. Oh and I bought dreamweaver cs6.
  19. I know this is an old post and I see there's still a site called Lazurus which I joined but I have no clue where to start in setting up a guestbook. Do I need to create a database?
  20. ok. thanks but do you think I need anything that's on the file for my domain? The one that says Front Page? I didn't create that htaccess but I did add a line to it about the 404 error. I don't have any idea what any of the information means on that page except for the one about the error document 404.
  21. I was going to turn off Front Page extension but I got a message warning me I would lose access to any htaccess files. I'm not really clear what htaccess files are but I know when I installed a forum on smf, they suggested I add an htaccess file to my smf folder which I did. It was actually a file that I copied and pasted so nothing I came up with, except I then created a 404 page and added a link to that page on the htaccess file so now my question is, if I uninstall the Front Page extensions, do I just need to create a new htaccess file and if so, do I just copy and paste what was on my original htaccess file? I have 3 forums for smf and all three have the htaccess file then I also have an htaccess file for my domain and it looks as if this is the only place that uses the Front Page extensions. The htaccess file starts out like this: # -Front Page-. I don't use Front Page for designing my web sites.
  22. Thanks. One more question. When I installed my smf message board for the first time, I used Fantastico and it ended up loading files for every language which I didn't need so I had to manually delete them all. Does Fantastico do that for all downloads? I really don't want and language other then English since that's the only language I understand.
