Thanks. Do I add the lines above to my .htaccess file as written? -
Hotlink Protection For Embedded Media Players?

This is his page (he changes his page often, though, so he may switch the videos before you can check on it): http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fusea...iendid=40732754 Two of the videos on the left-hand side, "Money Comin" and where he says "Don't 4get the Ladies" are linked to the .asx files on my web page: <embed allowScriptAccess="never"src="http://www.altaredlives.org/playlist/Money_comin.asx" loop="false" type="application/x-mplayer2" ShowStatusBar="0" AutoSize="true" DisplaySize="0" AutoStart="false" pluginspage="http://www.microsoft.com/Windows/Downloads/Contents/Products/MediaPlayer/"></embed><br>Video'>http://www.microsoft.com/Windows/Downloads/Contents/Products/MediaPlayer/"></embed><br>Video code generated at <a href="http://coolmyspace.com">coolmyspace.com</a>'>http://coolmyspace.com">coolmyspace.com</a> <embed allowScriptAccess="never"src="http://altaredlives.org/playlist/suite16_hi.asx" loop="false" type="application/x-mplayer2" ShowStatusBar="0" AutoSize="true" DisplaySize="0" AutoStart="false" pluginspage="http://www.microsoft.com/Windows/Downloads/Contents/Products/MediaPlayer/"></embed><br>Video code generated at <a href="http://coolmyspace.com">coolmyspace.com</a> He's apparently a big fan of my site, promoting my site on his myspace. But who knows who else might be embedding videos elsewhere and using up my bandwidth...??? -
Hotlink Protection For Embedded Media Players?
Mission posted a topic in CPanel and Site Maintenance
Helllo. I was surprised to find that someone had embedded a couple of my video files in their Myspace page. I have the meta files and media file extensions hotlink protected, but I guess that doesn't work when the meta files are embedded in someone's page, rather than being linked to (in order to launch an external player)? Is there a way to protect the files from being embedded? Thanks. -
Hi. I've been meaning to ask about this a long time, but kept forgetting. How do you the password for the TCH Family Only forum? Thanks.

Wow! You are really GOOD at image editing! I knew PhotoDeluxe was a great program, I just wasn't able to get everything out of it. You're an inspiration. (This thread has gone a LONG way, hasn't it? )

Problem Downloading Site From Some Links
Mission replied to Mission's topic in CPanel and Site Maintenance
Ok, things seem to be OK now. Support fixed something erroneous I had in the .htaccess file. I didn't know that hotlink protection wrote some kind of code to the .htaccess file. And I don't know why but .htm pages were in hotlink protection. I don't know when I did that, but I think that may have been part of the problem, too. Thanks for your help! -
Problem Downloading Site From Some Links

Renamed the .htaccess file ...? I haven't changed the .htaccess file that I know of. I guess I'll have to get support with the rewrite rules for whatever is changing the file. Thanks. -
Problem Downloading Site From Some Links
Mission replied to Mission's topic in CPanel and Site Maintenance
Thanks, Andy. Let's see if it works from here: AL.org AL.org with www AL.com AL.com with www I just did a search from Google and it didn't download from there, either. Whatever is happening seems to be getting more widespread. When I first started having the problem, I tried the Elink "Favorites" link from my PC at work and it's the same story there -- wouldn't download, and Elink isn't the ISP at work. I'll try the Google search tomorrow from work -- Google hadn't been a problem before... -
I have begun running into a problem and I don't know where to start looking for the answer. Several web sites include a reciprocal link to my web site, which has been hosted by TCH for the past 2-3 years. The problem is, when I click on some links to my site, my page never loads. The link URLs are all fine. Even my Earthlink Start Page link in "Favorites" to my site never loads. I have a DN forward for the .com to my .org site, and the link for the .com works just fine from the Elink start page -- but the .org link never opens my site. I've tried the link with IE, Netscape and Firefox. Firefox gives an interesting error message that says something like, "The server is attempting to redirect in such a way as to cause the page to never load." What does that mean? I contacted Elink and they did admit that they were having problems with the links. But why would the .com work and the .org not work from the same web page? But there are other sites that have linked to the .org URL that never load my site when I click the link. I just got an error when I clicked on the link to my site from another site, and the message came back that my page was not found, and it gave the correct URL for my site in the error. Then again, when I click the .org link from other sites, it loads just fine. Also, when I place the link directly in my web browser, the page loads just fine. Is there something going on in "webdom" lately causing a problem accessing certain sites from other sites? I have a cable connection and all my images are optimized, and small Flash file sizes, etc. are used on my site -- so I'm thinking it's something outside of my control. (Especially since the .com DN forward loads my site just fine, whereas the .org links do not. I don't understand what's going on...

I heard that Flash splash pages aren't good... I didn't know META tags were no good anymore...

I think it refers to Extensions to allow because we specify URLs that we want to have access to those file extensions. Like looking at a half-full glass rather than the half-empty glass type of scenario. (A crude example, but I guess the setup looks at it from that type of perspective -- "I want these URLs to be able to link to these files. Otherwise, block everything else and everybody else." Something like that... )

Nope, I was! Thanks, Bruce!

I run a few features on my web site that need to automatically upload files to a subdirectory on my site via FTP. I'm trying to run a php code and I keep getting failures on the auto uploads. It seems as though if I don't create a specific FTP account, the auto uploads give me failures to upload. However, I need to upload data to an existing subdirectory, not to an FTP user account. Is this possible? Thanks.

Cool! Thanks!

The link in the middle of his page shows the full video... I don't know if it was there before, though. http://home.comcast.net/~mooseslack/BWSC_2005.wmv I thought this one was real entertaining...

Receiving Multiple Emails Of Same Origin
Mission replied to Mission's topic in CPanel and Site Maintenance
Thanks, Andy. I notified the sender and it was indeed a problem on her end. -
I'm sure the experts out here can help you more, but I don't understand your extensions that you've enabled blocking for -- those should be the extensions of your graphics, like .jpg, .gif, etc. I believe. Also, I'm not sure, but don't you need the full URL to redirect to? I have hotlink blocking on my site for media extensions (videos, audio files) -- .asx, .wmv, .ram, .rm, etc. I'm not sure how it works for images, though. But when people place links to my media files on their web sites, and someone clicks on those links to launch the videos or audio files, their browser opens up my web page instead of launching the media.

I downloaded The GIMP yesterday and made my icon last night. That was pretty neat! The interface was a li'l complicated for me, but I plunked around it until I did what I wanted to do!

Thanks, borfast!

Thanks, HunterRose -- I'll do that! I know I wasn't even using PDX2 to its capabilities. I still don't know what the "layers" are or how to use them. So "much obliged" as we used to say down south.

I have gotten a "bug" to create an icon for my web site. I have visited a few sites, like favicon.com. I also did a search for "free icon editors." I found a site listing several. But then I got to thinking that some of the free ones might be unstable or something -- I don't know. Does anyone know of a free app that's legit? Thanks.

Hi. For some reason, I am getting 3-5 copies of the same email in my SquirrelMail account. I presume since it's coming from one particular sender, that it's their server's problem and not mine? It's the same exact emails, with the same send times and all...
