  1. On a related (?) note, when I log in to the Domain Management area (my username is andrewkantor -- all these user names are getting annoying! I only see one domain: kantor.com. But I have three (now four) registered: kantor.com, whizkid.com, penguinbooks.com, and now mannersguy.com. Any idea why they ain't showing? (Hurry: The baby's asleep, so I only have a limited window to work on my site tonight before he wakes up!)
  2. I'd love to but I can't. It won't take any of my three usernames: akantor, ak, or ack.
  3. I'm trying to get my fourth domain -- mannersguy.com -- transferred to TCH and hosted here with the Silver Plan. I completed the whole transfer thing, but when I tried to set up Silver Plan hosting, it gave me an error saying that mannersguy.com was already on the system. Trouble is, I have no idea how to get to the settings or what's actually up. I get an error at www.mannersguy.com/cpanel, and the system won't even recognize any of my TCH usernames (ak, akantor). Help! 1. What's up with mannersguy.com? (When can I get CPanel access?) 2. Why does the system say that neither ak nor akantor is registered? I am, honest! Thanks for any help! Andrew (I hope)
  4. I had the same problem. Here's how to fix it. In your account settings (for "Dominant" or whatever), make sure "Secure Sockets when Sending" is set to "Never." That's it.
  5. Two things I'd check -- one, try doing what lstover suggested and allowing SMTP authorization. (It's available with Outlook Express and Eudora, at least.) I also had a problem until I told Eudora not to use SSL in sending. (Don't know how to change that in Outlook Express.) But from home (cable ISP) or work, I don't have trouble sending through my account here once I fixed those two things. Andrew
  6. Each person in my family (spread all over the East Coast, 'cept for me) has his or her own ISP and all sorts of variation on their e-mail addresses (e.g., fran6543@whatever.com). So I've given them all kantor.com addresses. Some of them don't understand the whole "you dial in to your ISP, but you check your mail at mail.kantor.com, so I simply use forwarding to send their kantor.com messages to whatever weirdo account they have. It's actually a better option in some ways than letting them check it here. It doesn't use up precious storage space on your SNH... er, TCH's account. Andrew PS: I also own whizkid.com, and lots of friends have requested @whizkid.com addresses.
  7. Gosh, Irfanview's been around since... well, I wouldn't be surprised if the first version was version "I". It's great stuff -- I love it's batch-conversion ability. Andrew
  8. As a friend of mine said, the events where you always remember where you were are happening too close together.
  9. Ah, this is wonderful stuff -- thanks! Andrew
  10. Did you-all do something to the FTP servers recently? Like in the last week or so? It used to take several seconds (eons in Internet time!) to log in and start uploading. Now it's almost instantaneous!

    USB problem

This probably won't make a difference, but have you tried plugging the card reader into a different USB port? (I'm assuming you have more than one.) Andrew
  12. Yep -- that's what I ended up doing. I think that's the one quirk about SNH that bugs me (and it's a small one): Even though I have my own domain, I still have to choose a unique username, and there's already an "andrew" out there. <shrug> I solved it like you suggested, though! Andrew (one of several)
  13. I second klapster. This place is terrific -- prices, service, you name it. I hope you can keep it up!
  14. I'm looking for a good how-to guide for PHP and MySQL. I've never used either, but they seem to be exactly what I need. I want to create a set of pages with questions and answers -- that is, each page would have a question, the question's author, an answer, and maybe a date or a callout. Rather than create dozens of separate pages, I'd like to create a simple flat-file database with fields like "question," "answer," "callout," etc. When someone clicks on the question, PHP/MySQL would take a standard HTML "template" and populate it with the appropriate entry from the database. I know HTML very well, but haven't a clue how to use PHP or MySQL. (Many tutorials I've found tell you what to enter on a command line, but our interface seems to be Web based.) Any suggestions? Thanks! Andrew

  17. I've got everything set up just the way I like it, with one exception: When I first created my account for kantor.com, I used akantor as my name. But I want it to be "andrew." I can't change this, but I bet someone else can. So... help? Can someone change my world from akantor (@kantor.com) to andrew? Thanks! PS: I would go through the help desk, but can't seem to log in. It tells me to click on something in an e-mail, but I can't find it. But that's another story.
  18. Is 'newdomain.com' hosted here, or somewhere else? I know there's a domain forwarding plan here (see it here) that does that. Andrew
  19. (I've been spoiled -- I'm used to getting a half-dozen replies within an hour!)
  20. Ah, that looks wonderful -- clean and simple (just like me!). Something even I can figure out. Thanks!
  21. Hmm... are those things (favorites and .pst file) in the same location on both PCs? I'm wondering about some sort of simple program or batch file that would copy it from the external drive. TweakUI for XP is a great suggestion. One of its settings allows you to change where system and system-like files are kept. If you changed the setting so you favorites folder was pointing to drive Q: (or whatever your external is), that might work. Then again, it might not. (Everything in this post may be wrong.) Andrew
  22. I'm one of those rare folks who neither loves nor hates Microsoft. So I can actually almost sort of be objective about things. I figured they had a choice: Keep the menus in a less-than-logical place (but one that people would be used to), or move them to a logical place (that previous Office users wouldn't find). So they chose #2. I'm used to stumbling my way around until I find what I need, then getting used to the new configuration.

  24. You could have right-clicked the menu, chosen "Customize" and done it under the "Options" tab, too. Been using XP for a few months now. Happy to help if I can. Andrew
