Hey, all -- I want to run a simple cron job (it will check a POP account every 30 minutes for blog updates). The script is a Perl file, pop2blog.pl. I put it in my /public_html/cgi-bin directory and try to set up a cron job, but I get this error: /bin/sh: /cgi-bin/pop2blog.pl: No such file or directory The command I give Cron Manager to run is /cgi-bin/pop2blog.pl I tried /home/akantor/public_html/cgi-bin/pop2blog.pl -- no luck. What's the proper place for the Perl script and what's the proper command line for the Cron manager? Thanks for your help! Andrew

Super -- many thanks for the help. Just to be clear, though, I would still need to go to each site's CPanel separately to view logs etc. The advantage (since I don't plan on actually selling domains) is being able to adjust space and bandwidth among my sites.

Hey, TCH folks -- I've got a bunch of domains hosted here -- five or six at last count. They're all mine and all fairly small (either Starter or Silver plan); even the largest only uses about 140MB of space and transfers about 500-600MB per month. But it's annoying to have six separate CPanels and six separate logins (akantor, ak, editor, yada yada yada). So I'm thinking of getting myself a reseller account for the convenience. Here are my questions: 1. Figure I have five domains on the Silver Plan: That's a total of 2500MB disk space and 50GB of bandwidth for $25/month. To get near those numbers I'd need the Deluxe Reseller Plan (2500MB space and 25GB bandwidth) and would pay $45/month. Assuming that I'm not actually going to resell (I just want to consolidate my domain management), what are the advantages to a reseller account? 2. I've paid for a year with some of my domains. Would any of that be applied to a reseller account, or should I wait till the 12th month and then convert? You guys are terrific -- I actually worry that I'm getting spoiled by being here, and that one day you'll get bought out by some Evil Empire and all this will go away. Till then, though, I like to brag. "Really? Gee, my host gives that free." Thanks for your help! Andrew

I don't have ANY FTP accounts (except for the one that I use), and the password is at least 8 character and a mix of letters and numbers. Hmm... Anyway, not a big deal, although I want to be sure all is well. Thanks! Andrew

How about the best integration of TCH (the company name, the URL, or the logo) into a Web site -- a site that has nothing to do with TCH. Kinda like 'hiding in plain sight' ... or maybe "Hiding in Plain Site."

One more note: I can compose new mail, view the folder-options screen, etc. -- in short, I can do everything but view the folder list (on the left) or my inbox (on the main frame).

For the past coupla days, I can't get into SquirrelMail. (Well, I did once for a few minutes.) I get this error: ERROR : Bad or malformed request. Query: FETCH 1,2,3,4 (FLAGS BODY.PEEK[HEADER.FIELDS (RECEIVED)]) Server responded: Command unrecognized: UID FETCH I'm able to log into NeoMail and Horde no problem, and I don't have any trouble getting my mail with a POP client (Eudora, specifically). It's just SquirrelMail. Any ideas? Thanks! Andrew

One of my sites, www.penguinbooks.com, got defaced yesterday. (I just noticed it.) Anyway, the hackers were kind enough to simply rename my index file so restoration was simple. But, of course, I'm worried. They didn't leave a lot of useful info, except maybe this: *Should* I worry?

My wife is, once again, having problems with her e-mail. She owns kcentral.com, and mail to her has started bouncing. I tried and got a 'mailbox full' message, but she only has about 88 messages in her Inbox -- mostly spam from last night -- and there's no trash to be emptied or anything. Help! This is the fourth time she's had this same problem, and each time someone there has to fix something. Does she need to be moved to another server or something maybe? (She works from home and really can't keep missing her e-mail. And there's no way for her to know this is happening until someone complains about a bounce.) Thanks for any help! Andrew

Er... the thing is, I don't remember it. Does this mean I can never access my site? There's *got* to be a way for someone to reset it or send it to me... right? Andrew

How can I get my FTP password reset and sent to me? I haven't used one of my Web sites (mannersguy.com) in a long time -- turns out the DNS wasn't set up -- and now I don't remember my username and password for it. (I tried every combination I could think of.) Help! (I tried to post this as a help ticket, but kept being told that there was no such username. So here I am!

I don't put my CSS class statement in the or
lines -- I ususally use [div] tags that either call the style (div class="whatever") or define the style right there (div style="padding-top="4pt"). So my recommendation would be to do this: ><TD width="114" vAlign=top bgColor="#ffffff" class="menu"> <IMG height="9" src="assets/images/arrow.gif" width="9"> <div style="padding-bottom:4pt;"> <b><a href="index.htm">Home</a></b> <br> <IMG height="9" src="assets/images/arrow.gif" width="9"> <b><a href="files/estimate.htm">Free Estimate!</a></b> <br> <IMG height="9" src="assets/images/arrow.gif" width="9"> <b><a href="files/feedback.htm">Feedback</a></b> </div> </TD> I might not have it exactly right, but that might at least put you on track. Hope it helps! Andrew

All fixed -- thank you!

My problem is that I don't have that welcome e-mail. I don't recall ever getting it, and I didn't think it was odd because I had a lot of trouble transferring the domain. So... I put in a Help Desk ticket asking for a resend, and now I wait.
-
[long stare at matman] Serious? 'Cause I have no idea what my username is for penguinbooks.com. THAT might be the problem.
-
Okey doke -- I'll go submit a coupla Help Desk tickets. Thanks! (Oh, and just to be sure that my living in Columbus doesn't affect my service from you Michigan folks, I changed my sig to point out that I'm a *transplant*. Please don't hold my geography against me! ;-)

Lessee... I should have the following domains: kantor.com, whizkid.com, and penguinbooks.com. (I just set up primecuts.com and I'm waiting for the domain registrar transfer.) I also tried to get mannersguy.com transferred, but that didn't work. Oh, and none of them are reseller accounts! I logged into the help desk with the username/pw you e-mailed me, but I honestly have no idea where that username came from. I thought it was "andrewkantor," not "kantora." Oh, to have a single account with all my domains under it!
-
Okay, I'm having an odd problem. (And I still am unable to access the help desk to submit a ticket, which is why I'm posting here.) I host a coupla domains here, one being whizkid.com. I just moved another domain here -- penguinbooks.com. Here's the weirdness: If I FTP to ftp.penguinbooks.com, I end up looking at whizkid.com stuff. But if I browse to www.penguinbooks.com, I get an 'empty' page -- it's waiting for me to add my content (at least an index.html file). Help! Why does ftp.penguinbooks.com point to the whizkid.com files, and www.penguinbooks.com goes to the proper place?
-
A-ha! A-HA! HAH! Fixed! Trouble was that I was logging in with my account username and not my e-mail username. (The one thing I don't like about TCH is that I can't have "andrew" as my username because someone else does, so I have to be "akantor@kantor.com" officially and then set up forwarding.) Annnnnnnnnnnyway, all is well and I'm an idiot. Andrew

That was the first thing I thought of. Nope -- I always make sure to send myself some new mail immediately (using a non-Eudora client) and wait. Still nothing. Then when I load Eudora it finds the mail. As we speak I'm logged into my account via Webmail and there's nothing there. I sent myself a message; no luck. It never appears. I sent myself a message to my work address and it went right through. Arrrrrrrgggggghhhhhhhhhhhh!
-
I'm having a strange problem trying to get my e-mail. If I use Eudora to check it, no problem. But if I use a different client (e.g., Outlook, Outlook Express), it checks the mail but reports that there's no new mail. AND... if I use Webmail (i.e., Neomail/Horde), it also shows that there's no new mail. I like Eudora a lot, and it's clearly the best program out there (shameless plug), but A) I'd like to be able to use Outlook at work, where I can't install my own software and 2) I'd like to use Webmail. Any ideas? Thanks! Andrew

Oh, I'm not worried. (Actually, being unable to get to the Help Desk is a lot more annoying.) No, these guys are terrific! Andrew

I'm waiting for two new domains to propogate over to TCH (mannersguy.com and penguinbooks.com). In the meantime, could I have the IP addresses and other stuff so I can start FTPing my content up? (I never got a welcome letter with that info for either.) I figure that if I've been paying for hosting for a coupla weeks, I should at least get the content up even if the site isn't here yet. Thanks! Andrew PS: I tried to fill out a Help Desk ticket, but it says that I've specified an invalid username -- andrewkantor. Don't know what to do 'bout that.

One other thing I figure I'll point out (this'll only cost ya 100 yen): With Internet Explorer, anyway, it 'anticipates' the site you want if you've been there already. That is, once I start typing in "www.cn..." it suggests that I want to go to www.cnn.com. So... because so many sites start with "www," if you use a subdomain like "photos.****," as soon as someone types in the letter "p" it will suggest your site. (Everyone follow? I think I got that right.) That's a positive. A negative is that most people still don't think of sites as beginning with anthing other than "www," so you'll get a certain percentage of folks trying to get to "www.photos.****" and others who will forget to use the subdomain at all -- they'll either skip it or try "www.****/photos." Me, I'm a fan of short subdirectories. I have kantor.com/this, kantor.com/that, and so on. But that's me. Andrew
-
Do you mean "whether or not to use subdomains"? Well, regardless, here's my $.02: I don't see any particular advantage to using subdomains (e.g., softball.mydomain.us) vs. subdirectories (www.mydomain.us/softball). Subdomains are a bit cooler sounding, but most people are used to typing in "www" first and might forget that. Of course, you could do both -- have softball.mydomain.us point to www.mydomain.us/softball... but either way, I think a lot of people are going to start at your home page and not really pay attention to the name/subdomain/subdirectory that they end up in after they click.
