You'll have to install Squirrel Mail in your account and the install the plugin. The standard SQMail is installed for the whole server (shared), and so users are not allowed to change it. You could submit a help desk ticker asking if the techs could install it for you, though.

I just think that we're better with Linux (or Open Source software) because of the way they treat security. As for the country, yes, I know Portugal is not the only country ruled by morons but I know a lot of people around the world, most of them have been in Portugal, some even lived here for quite some time and, while they all also have bad things to say about their countries, most of them (especially the ones who lived here for some time) agree that the way Portugal is being governed makes no sense and just demonstrates that our government is stupid. Even worst: most Portuguese people are stupid, their heads filled with old ideas and prejudice, they stopped in time and didn't evolve... I don't know about the mouse but the generic driver should work... As for the CPU usage, I know Gnome is pretty heavy on the CPU but so is KDE, so I don't you're having those problems. Try using KDE with FC2 and see if your CPU is still used as much as with Gnome. If so, Gnome (or some software Gnome uses) is the source of the problem. Otherwise, it may be something FC2 is loading. Even better: Load up System Monitor (Applications -> System Tools -> System Monitor) and see which process is eating up the CPU.

To be honest, I believe that we are indeed safer with another browser because MS has given us enough proof of their effectivness when it comes to correcting bugs in their software. Besides, if you go with Mozilla, you'll use an Open Source browser and, just like Jim said in another thread, this means that any bug discovered will be patched in record time. But let's be honest here: the problem with IE is not only MS being slow releasing patches. IMHO, the biggest problem are the users. The unknowing users and the stubborn users. The unknowing users don't update their systems because they don't know they need to do it and the stubborn users don't update their systems because they think that's stuff for computer geeks and "normal" people don't do that because only geeks would worry about such insignificant stuff. So perhaps the real solution is not to use Open Source software or non-MS software but to educate people. I've been saying this for years and now that we're all paying the price of anyone and everyone having a computer connected to the internet (spam and viruses constantly invading our mailboxes), I believe it should really exist a law that forces people to learn how to use a computer before they're allowed to buy or use one, just as it is with driving licenses and cars.

Well, if you're planning on dual-booting Linux and WinXP, here's a couple of things to take into account: 1 - I know there are Linux distributions that can repartition your hard drive without deleting the existing data. I believe Mandrake is one of them but I'm not sure. I don't know about the other distros but I guess that's easy to find out. I never bothered about that because I repartitioned my HDD with Partition Magic a long time ago and I never touched the partitions again. If you have Partition Magic, use it, unless you're sure the Linux distro you chose will be able to do it for you without any problems. 2 - If you chose Fedora Core 2 (which I recommend, although I also feel tempted to recommend Mandrake 10 for new users), be aware that there is a possibility of thrashing your Windows instalation. I was lucky enough that my instalation was safe but there's been lots of people having problems. I couldn't remember where I had read about this but I searched fedoraforum.org and found the answer: http://www.fedoraforum.org/forum/showthread.php?t=15712 or, the direct link: http://www.redhat.com/archives/fedora-devel-list/2004-May/msg00908.html I've been using Fedora 2 since it came out and I find it nice, although I do think the quality is dropping a bit. Red Hat Linux (which I've been using since version 5.0) was quite good, although some hardcore linux geeks don't like it because it's a "mainstream" linux distribution and try to make life easier for the end user. But when Red Hat Linux 9 was terminated and Fedora Core replaced it (actually, it didn't replace it at all, Red Hat still controls Fedora Core, they just don't have so many responsabilities in it... ), I think there are some things that are being overlooked. That's not a problem if you know how to do certain stuff but... well, I'm babbling here, so I'll just shut up Give it a try. If you can, try Mandrake 10, too (the official release, not the community edition). Then decide which one you prefer

Thomas, I meant that that's the way ACDSee sorts the files, not Windows. My mistake, sorry. By the way, if you like ACDSee, try Irfanview. It's infinitely cheaper ($0.00 ) and, IMO, much better than ACDSee.

Thomas, I don't think there's a way to "fix" it because, unfortunately, there's nothing "wrong" with it. It's simply the way Windows sorts files First, it sorts them by the first character, then by the second character, etc. If you have 1, 2, 1001, you'll get them sorted like 1, 1001, 2, because 1 and 1001 both start with '1'. The "problem" is that alphabetically that's correct but not mathematically. Since Windows does not know that 1001 is greater than 2, it places 2 after 1001, because all it matters is that the starting character os 1001 comes before the starting character of 2. Hope that makes sense.

Well, I prefer to educate IE-only website owners and make them fix their websites so they become real websites and not IE-only websites But that's just my humble opinion. I know that not everyone is willing to try and change things, even if they complain about them. I'm an example of that, since I only contact site owners if I really need their sites. For my part, I haven't used IE for ages (except for testing websites I build, and I do it on an old disconnected laptop ) and I have nothing to complain about. I don't think I even know what a virus is anymore

Vampire, the problem with the "world" MS created is not just that. The real problem is that people have no idea of what a computer is or how it works. I bet that if you ask anyone who's been a Windows user ever since he got a computer "what is a directory" they'll either answer "a directory? I don't know, I just know what a 'folder' is" or "a directory? yes, I know what it is, it's those little yellow icons where I put my stuff". Not the best example but I think you get my point. And then there are those that are even worst - those who end up learning a little bit (like clicking buttons, plugging the phone cord so they can get internet access, using keyboard shortcuts - people are completely amazed at my l33t sk1lz when I use ALT+F4 to close a window or ALT+TAB to switch between open windows) but when you tell them they're doing something wrong or that they should use another software because the one they use is full of problems, they just say "I don't want to know! I don't want to touch this because I'm affraid that if I press ALT+F4 instead of the top-right corner X, this will crumble down like if it was a match-stick tower!". Just like you said, if you try to instruct them, they don't want to learn - those are the ones that really irritate me. Although your ASF file is hosted in your account, the WMV file it links to is hosted on another server: http://stream1.highvault.com/wkg_austin78704_com/ReddBilly/P6281879-Root66b.wmv. Besides, you're not streaming the video, you're using HTTP, both for the ASF and for the WMV file, so the problem is not the fact that TCH's servers don't support video streaming. Just as a side note, you need to use a streaming protocol to stream a video. This is something that many people don't understand and they think they are srteaming a video just by using a file format like ASF. The video stream doesn't depend on the file format but rather on the communication protocol and HTTP is not a streaming protocol. Those problems you're mentioning are the reason for this upgrade. Among other things, those problems were solved and if you use 0.9, you should definitely upgrade to 0.9.1. It's not a major upgrade, like going from 0.8 to .09, so the risc of something going wrong is much much smaller
