In *nix you run a process in the background by adding an ampersand at the end of the command. I cannot guarantee that it will work on the TCH servers configuration. You would have to ask the help desk.

Why do you need to run it in the background? Looks like a backup script, just let cron handle it.

Following the directions in that thread only people that know the login/password will have access to the stats giving you basically what you want.

Create one on your domain or use "/tmp"

No idea, what are you trying to do? These are Linux servers (unless you have a dedicated Windows server) for one thing so the use of the "\" will not work. Directories have "/" before them.
