Adware spreading via AOL IM A surreptitious program spreading Wednesday morning is turning AOL Instant Messenger users into advertising spammers. The problem starts when users receive an instant message that appears to come from someone on their Buddy List (a list of friends and co-workers who also use the AOL Instant Messenger service). The message reads "check this out" and includes a link that contains a reference to "osama capture.php."

**Update** The source code, which was leaked initially to a P2P network, spread quickly to IRC, and is now heading for all the large warez channels out there. This really is a shame, because the high-security nature of Windows 2000 is likely to be compromised by an open codebase. At the current time, anybody who has malicious intentions regarding your Windows 2000 computer can merely browse through the source code, find an unpatched hole, and then root you. If you're currently running Windows 2000, switch your machine off. If you can't, put a firewall up. This is merely precautionary, as we still do not know the authenticity of the code. At the moment, OSFocus is trying to ascertain it through our MS sources, and we will post any updates as and when we get them. This source code leak is one of the worst things I have ever come across in my experience as a tech/beta journalist and developer. Whoever leaked it should be dealt with in much the same way muderers and child molesters are. 25 years in jail for leaking Windows' source code? Sounds about right to me. We will not assist you in finding this code, and we will not give it to you. We do not have it, and we do not want you to send it to us. The end. ************ Rumors abound web-wide that the Win2k and NT4 source code has been leaked and is floating around the internet. If true, it could spell trouble for Redmond and security experts alike. On the heels of a dangerous exploit this week comes a rumor than could prove downright painful. Neowin this afternoon announced that two packages containing Windows 2000 and NT4 source code were making the rounds. Slashdot soon followed up with their own mention of the rumored leak, effectively knocking Neowin off-line with traffic. So far the authenticity or extent of the leak has not been confirmed, though it does appear to be at least a portion of the code. From the original Neowin report: "At this time, it is hard to establish whether or not full code has leaked, and this will undoubtedly remain the situation until an attempt is made to compile them. Microsoft are currently unavailable for comment surrounding this leak so we have no official response from them at the time of writing. This leak is a shock not only to Neowin, but to the wider IT industry. The ramifications of this leak are far reaching and devastating. This reporter does not wish to be sensationalist, but the number of industries and critical systems that are based around these technologies that could be damaged by new exploits found in this source code is something that doesn't bare thinking about. We ask that for the wider benefit of the IT community that members and readers support Microsoft by forwarding anything they know about the leak to the Microsoft's Anti-Piracy department." _________________

Yup, dont remember how long ago six flags bought them out but its been a six flags theme park for years now. It's quite a bit bigger and has several new/newer rides.

Since I handle most of the abuse reports, whether it be SPAM, ToS/AUP violations etc. I see a LOT of complaints from AOL reporting TCH customers as spammers. 99.9% of these complaints are due to forwards and AOL's automated spam filters. So in an effort to figure out how to fix this for TCH family members I did something I swore I would never do, I installed AOL on my computer After doing a bit of reading AOL's spam filter isn't to blame, but AOL users that don't set up their filters correctly are. You can teach the AOL filters what is and isn't spam, but NOT by leaving the default settings for the filters. All that is required is changing one setting, and then checking the spam folder and "un blocking" anything that gets reported as spam that shouldn't be. To change the settings open AOL then click on Mail on the top tool bar, go down to block unwanted e-mail and click on it, that will open up the filter settings, the only setting you need to change is the setting that says delete spam e-mail automatically, you need to change this to send it to the spam folder. By default it is deleted. Save the settings and you are done with that portion, now you need to make it a habit of checking the spam folder on a regular basis and UN BLOCK anything that isn't spam. This will teach the filter what is and isn't spam, and after a while you will start getting fewer and fewer false positives in your spam folder. With the e-mails set to auto delete, that is telling AOL that anything their filter thinks is spam, is in fact spam...even if it isn't. Now regarding forwards, if you are going to forward e-mail from your TCH account to an AOL account, you MUST add your e-mail address of your TCH account to you AOL mail filters, you can do this by click on mail, go to block unwanted mail and placing a check next to: Allow mail from people I know, then click on the link for instructions on adding ppl. You CAN NOT report spam e-mail that is forwarded to your AOL account from your TCH account as spam, because as far as AOL is concerned that e-mail came from your TCH account and reporting it as spam would be reporting your own site as a spam source.

An average bandwidth use quote on a server would be FAR from accurate, since this is a shared server environment. You may have 1 site that uses 30 gigs a month and another that uses less than 1 gig. Not to mention the variables, traffic, images, flash, downloads etc. Last month one of my personal sites had over 38,000 page views and used 9.98GB of bandwidth

Sorry just getting around to replying, keep in mind these are MY opinions, and Bill may completely disagree with me. I really don't see much to combine, unless you combine Q&A with general support, and maybe reseller support with those Backed services and the other forums in general support are generalized or bunched up because there are two many server related services to make separate forums for. On the other hand, if you combine forums like the frontage, DW and CSB forums, then you run into the same "problem" you mentioned before in another post. "When you make a subject and call it "Help, what do I do" and its an email question. Nobody will know until they drill down and read the whole note. If I am not good at answering email questions then I have spent time not helping when I could have been elsewhere helping with what I know. unless everyone makes sure there post says help with forms using dreamweaver, your going to have to read it Anya to find out if it is something you can help with. Looking at the main page every forum has been posted in within the last week This is were we disagree, the forum isn't just for interaction, posting a note and reading replies. It is for information, and the same reason I mentioned before is the reason for the static content, spiders index that content and that gives us more traffic and potential customers. More customers = more family to interact with. Contests are coming back, I just can't say for sure when. This is not an option, part of what makes potential customers current customers is this forum, splitting it up so one group can go here and another there is out of the question.

Just a note here, AOL' s automated spam filter is HORIBLE!!! Even if your AOL subscribers WANT the e-mail and they haven't set up their filters correctly AOL will still block it as spam and they will never even see it. One thing I can't stress enough is if you do have a mailing list and you do send to AOL e-mail address, please please please stress to your subscribers the importance of setting up their filters correctly. If they don't, they will inadvertently report your mailing as spam and it could result in the account being suspended. I see hundreds of complaints a week from legit mailing lists sent to AOL users and even though they may be legit I still have to suspend the account in order to keep our servers from being blacklisted.

I make it easy for my wife when it comes to ANY gift giving occasion, I have three hobbies (if you wanna call them that) computers, music (listening and TRYING to play) and game consoles (old and new, even tho I don't play them much) Anything related to those three things and I'm happy.
