I know I'm not crazy (right?)... here's a comparison... the one on the right is blog.zoblue.com and the one on the left is zoblue.com/blog

Alright I've got a headscratcher for all u gurus out there: I successfully created a subdomain and moved my MT blog over to it (all of it cgi files and everything). So I edited all the files necessary to make MT know, "hey I've been moved let me update myself" right? Ok, the problem is if you visit the subdomain of my blog blog.zoblue.com you get the site with the stylesheets but no images. If you access the folder directly www.zoblue.com/blog you get the blog as it should be. If you hit the back button the images will show up since they're cached by visiting the folder; if you clear your cache the images are gone again. I wanted my blog on a subdomain so I can track it's awstats separately from the rest of my site. But I'm concerned the images are not showing for the subdomain even tho the images folder is in there and not on the root. I even turned off Hotlink Protection and waited couple hours... no change. Basically what I did was this: created a subdomain in CPanel; logged into MT and changed the "Weblog Config" to point to the subdomain; rebuild MT; logged into WS_FTP and deleted the blog folder; made a backup copy of my mt folder; renamed the original mt folder to blog; edited the mt.cfg file to point to the subdomain; viola! or so I thought! Everything is moved over but the images refuse to show up! Mad!!! I spent all day yesterday on the MT forums and a member there (shelley) tried everything on earth to get the images to show. I even went so far as to allow her FTP access to try somethings and it still didn't help. (see here: www.movabletype.org/support/index.php?act=ST&f=7&t=39261&st=0) Please tell me someone out there has some kind of idea what I did wrong? I did drop a help ticket yesterday and was told it was probably a setting in MT. I want to get feedback from some of you gurus out there before I submit a second help desk ticket. Now that I've tried everything via MT I'm thinking it's something else. I'm close to breaking down to tears over here . thanks, !!blue

Ok, so when I change the config in MT, do I have to change any settings in the database? Sorry to be such a bother but I haven't ever set up a *real* subdomain before. thanks a mil, !!blue ---------edit--------- I got it working, took me a while but I got it working. The log in page for MT tho doesn't have any images. I've added my new subdomin to both htacces and Hotlink Protection so now I just have to wait for it to take effect. but so far so good... thanks a million, trillion to TCH-Rick and schussat!! For those of you who need help on subdomains here's a great link: www.websitegear.com/hosting/subdomain.asp ---------/edit---------

Is that really all I have to do? I thought it'd be this somewhat complex thing. So what u'r saying is that once I change the config in my blog then the whole site would be moved over to the subdomain? So, for example, the address to the news page use to be zoblue.com/mt/news.shtml and when I make the change it will be blog.zoblue.com/news.shtml. Is that right? thanks, !!blue

I just created a subdomain for my blog and named it blog.zoblue.com; how do I make this the address for my blog? Right now it's redirecting to zoblue.com/mt/index.shtml but how can I make the subdomain *be* the blog (e.i. blog.zoblue.com/index.shtml)? Am I making sense? Would I have to rename the "mt" folder to "blog.zoblue.com"? Or is this not possible? I know that having a redirect can bring down your PR... thanks, !!blue

To share a story of a stubborn child--not me--she didn't want to wash the dish she ate on and just cleaned the dish and spoon with a napkin. Her mom told her that if she wasn't going to wash it to save it and that would be "her" dish. So she saved it and the next time she ate grabbed "her" dish and started serving herself food. Then she got upset when she found a dog hair on her dish and her mom told her, "Oh well, u didn't want to wash it, so now you have to eat the dog hair too!" Shoulda seen the look on her face! (no she didn't eat it and she did wash her dish!) !!blue

I remember reading somewhere in the forum that the "www" folder is like a backup of your actual site under "public_html." So, yes, link Dreamweaver to the public_html folder. later, !!blue

After reading this entry: www.totalchoicehosting.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=9201&view=findpost&p=60265 I tried what it suggested which was editing the code to use html links & img tags instead of the [ url ] [ img ] etc., etc. tags. yay! i wonder if that should be added to the "Our Gift for You" thread? or is it only a problem for a handful of people? later, !!blue

oh my goodness! I took that JS code outta my page and now it loads fine. That code I got from this page www.sovavsiti.cz/css/abbr.html which helps the html tag ABBR work in IE--which normally doesn't and this code *makes* it work. That code is also on my home page and everything works fine too. Oh, well... at least it works better now. thanks, !!blue

Here it is again, this time bolded: www.zoblue.com/mt/powered.shtml just copy & paste.... thanks! !!blue

So I've got this page www.zoblue.com/mt/powered.shtml that lists all the stuff I use on my blog (like all the back-end stuff that makes my blog work). Well, I added a JavaScript breadcrumb code that creates breadcrumb links so you know where you are on the site. In IE (both on Mac OSX and Win XP machines) the breadcrumb links are duplicated. The page is called "powered" and is linked directly from the home page: >home : poweredhome : powered Also I have JS code that displays the current year and another JS code that writes a link to email me (obfuscated code) and those are also duplicated: >© 20042004: Zulema OrtizZulema Ortiz Feel free to look at the source code... another page where I use the breadcrumb links is this page: www.zoblue.com/mt/news.shtml and they are not duplicated at all. So it must be a problem with my "powered" page only. thanks in advance! !!blue

While researching font size standards to reply to this thread, I found this link www.sam-i-am.com/work/sandbox/css/fontsizes.html which shows you a listing of many of the possible CSS font sizes and you can change the font to show too. I changed now to using em's as my font size unit. I use to use small and xx-small and all those but became weird when the viewer resized the font via the browser. But who knows what the standard is... later, !!blue ---edit--- W3C suggests em or percentages...read more www.w3.org/QA/Tips/font-size ---/edit---

I added www.totalchoicehosting.com AND totalchoicehosting.com to see if that helps any. So... is the MSN status thing just not working? or is my icon just like corrupt or something? or what's up? or should I take a chill pill and just wait it out ... one thing to note is that when I refresh the page, a URL that shows up in the bottom status bar of the browser is "snind.gotdns.com" or something to that effect when the MSN icon is trying to load...
-
Why does my MSN icon in my sig show up as "user posted image"? Driving me bonkers Mad!!! The Yahoo icon shows up alright but not the MSN icon (and I've tried two diff computers-one at work & the one at home). I gave totalchoicehosting.com/forums permission to access images from my website in htaccess. Does anyone have any ideas? thanks, !!blue

Nope, you did a good job. I understood what you meant. Good point about adding an additional nav item to a pre-existing menu of choices. You're right...it would be easier to add a new row to one table than to dig deeper into a different table to find the nested <tr><td> of choice. Thanks! Thumbs Up Or be *really* daring and not use tables at all!

I *love* it--I'm going to send a copy over to my supervisor, it's right up her alley! Also, have you read this article from A List Apart? Accessible Pop-Ups later, !!blue

Using Css To Center A Horiz. Unordered List <ul>
!!blue replied to kaseytraeger's topic in HTML and CSS
When u put CSS code in the head tags it's called "inline styles" and those overwrite any "linked styles" u may have. So.... now that u moved the inline styes to the linked styles...hm... something must be conflicting. Check that you have styles only for: html tags (UL, LI, H1, P, etc..); classes (.list, .header, .graytext, etc..); and ids (#container, #leftnav, #footer) only. Otherwise you may have something conflicting like two styles for the same thing. Otherwise I'm at a losss hopefully that helps, !!blue -
I'm setting up my website's email to be sent to the email client I use at work and can't seem to set up the outgoing "SMTP Host" shouldn't it be the same as the Incoming Mail "POP Host"? (BTW: how can I attach a screen shot here? every time I use the IMG button it ends up saying "user defined image" instead of putting the image in.) thanks, !!blue edit:: found the problem I had to un-check "use SMTP Authorization"; don't know what that is but that did the trick /edit::

Using Css To Center A Horiz. Unordered List <ul>
!!blue replied to kaseytraeger's topic in HTML and CSS
I added a class to your footer links (I downloaded ur CSS & HTML codes): ul#footerlinks {padding-top: 15px; margin: 0;} ul#footerlinks li{list-style: none; display: inline; padding: 4px; margin: 0;} and the list became: <ul id="footerlinks"> <li>[ <a href="test-index.htm" alt="Home">Home</a> ]</li> <li>[ <a href="test-menu_breakfast.htm" alt="Our Menu">Our Menu</a> ]</li> <li>[ <a href="test-directions.htm" alt="Directions">Directions</a> ]</li> <li>[ <a href="test-customers.htm" alt="Our Customers">Our Customers</a> ]</li> <li>[ <a href="test-contactus.htm" alt="Contact Us">Contact Us</a> ]</li> </ul> try something to that effect.... your idea about "something interferring with the UL" gave me the idea to force fix the UL. Padding on top to move it down a bit and a margin of 0 (usually padding:0 and margin:0 cleans it out a bit) and the same thing for all the LI's at once. hope that helps, !!blue -
Using Css To Center A Horiz. Unordered List <ul>

This link might help you: http*//css.maxdesign.com.au/listamatic/ (just swap out the '*' for a ':') and scroll down a bit to Horizontal Lists. They provide you a sample of how the list shows up and the HTML and CSS code. Hope that helps I know I've been to this site many o' times!! later, !!blue -
What's an affiliate link? In my blog I posted an entry about how happy I was with the whole Server 27 thing that happened Saturday (see here: www.totalchoicehosting.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=8883&view=findpost&p=58079) then added a link to TCH's home page. A friend of mine told me that if I was using affiliate code in my link that it would be fradulent. So... what is that and why is it bad? I didn't use any code in my link to TCH just normal link code: ><a href="http://www.totalchoicehosting.com/" title="TotalChoice Hosting" target="_blank" class="link">TCH</a> can anyone shed some light on what he's talking about so I can defend myself? thanks, !!blue

At first I tried renaming the file and I got a warning saying that either "the disk is full, the file is write-protected or in use." So I restarted the computer in safe-mode and tried renaming the file again.... same warning message. So I restarted the computer again in normal-mode and waited for that original warning to happen then re-named the file at that point. Success! I restared the computer again and everything looks good What I'll do is leave the file there for a week or so and during normal use if anything looks odd I can go from there. thanks everyone! !!blue

If you want to be able to do this on your computer, on a PC you'd have to change your File Types. In Windows Explorer, go to Tools > Options... In the dialog box, click on the "File Types" tab Take a breath as it loads all the diff file types Scroll down to "MP3" Click on it (highlight it) and then click on "Advanced..." You'll get a new window that lists all the actions associated with this file type. Near the bottom is a checkbox "Confirm open after download" This makes sure the browser asks you if you want to open the file or save it. Click "OK", Click "OK" and finally... click "OK" FYI: this is where you can change what programs open what files. For example, I have all my *.html files specifically edit with dreamweaver. But don't go crazy and start changing everything around ok? Cuz I made a mistake one time and took me forever to figure out what I did. hope that helps someone out there! Now if I could only figure out how to do this on a Mac....Yuck! later, !!blue
