Links From External Site From My Site?
!!blue replied to !!blue's topic in CPanel and Site Maintenance
Does that apply to me? That post, being very informative , talked about other sites showing up as referrers to our TCH families' sites. The other sites only looked letigimate but were actually sites hiding I AM A SPAMMER. My question is on why non-existant pages on my site are showing up as referrers to my site. I'm so confused. thanks, !!blue -
In AWStats, I checked the Referring sites and many of them are from my domain but from pages that do not exist on my website. For example, "Links from an external page" shows: h--p://gallery.zoblue.com/user_getpassword.asp or h--p://blog.zoblue.com/epilepsy.php or h--p://gallery.zoblue.com/user_reg.asp or *gasp* h--p://blog.zoblue.com/erectile_dysfunction.php It goes on with more pages that don't exist on anywhere on my website. But all of them have the URL of my two subdomains "blog" and "gallery." What's going on? Should I be worried? Help! thanks, !!blue

After I tried my WS_FTP and had no success, I tried the CPanel's File Manager and still nothing. In Cpanel, in Backup, when I click on Generate/Download a Backup, it's set to go to the Home Directory. But since I'm using the php/cron combo, I'm not sure where the backup goes to. I'm guessing it should be the root folder but I don't see it. I've also checked the folder where the PHP file is and still nothing! Right now, if I want to download the backup, I have to log into CPanel, go to Backup and click on Download a home directory Backup and then I can save it. When I hover over that link, the status bar shows this: h**ps://server**.totalchoicehosting.com:****/getbackup/backup-6-23-2004.tar.gz so that doesn't let me know where the file could be located either. I'm so lost. While Im here I might as well ask this: what's an "alias" and why would I want to download a backup of it? thanks, !!blue

Just wanted to know if anyone could answer my question above. Thanks ! I mostly just worry about the old backups taking up unecessary space. later, !!blue

I'd LOVE to use FTP, but I don't see the backup files in my root folder and I don't think I specified a different folder. How do I find out which folder I did specify? The PHP file from TCH-MikeJ doesn't require you to specify a folder. thanks, !!blue

Hi, I'm using TCH-MikeJ's php cron job to run a backup of my entire site: (http://www.totalchoicehosting.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=7787&view=findpost&p=49761) Once I log into my CPanel and download the backup, how can I delete the last more recently created backup? For example, I just downloaded one for 6/20/04 so how can I delete the one for 6/12/04? Or is it automatically deleted? I don't know where the backups are to log in via FTP and download/delete manually. thanks, !!blue

You can install Outlook/Outlook Express on whatever computer u use and make the software get your email from your site. But maybe someone else can answer the question of whether another will be installed. later, !!blue

Thanks to both of you! Bruce: I don't quite understand your explanation. But what I think you're saying is this: Make "this+****" forward to my regular email that I check all the time. Then if I start getting spam, :blackhole: that email? I'm confused. but thanks, !!blue
-
Hello all, My question is how do I set up an email (webmaster+****) to blackhole? I don't want to blackhole the default catch-all email address. But I do want to be able to blackhole the "webmaster" one. I get random spam to that email. Or do I have to set up a filter in Horde to get any emails to that specific address & trash them? {side note="trick"} Btw: what I do with the catch-all email is when I sign up to a website for whatever reason (like when I downloaded AVG) I add a phony email like AVG_signup+****. So if I start getting spam to that email I know they sold my email addy & block that email. I signed up at eff.org in a similar manner and can track if they've sold my email, which they haven't. A good trick to keep up your sleeve! {/side note} thanks, !!blue

I think those are for RSS feeds, cuz there's one RSS feed I got on my blog from another site and the address was to an rdf file. I had to right-click on the link and copy the link somehow and then add it to my code that gets the RSS feed and puts it on the page. I think most browsers try to download those files. It's all very magic to me, i don't know how it works Maybe someone else can help you I hope. later, !!blue

Ok for those of you dying of curiosity: I've officially answered my own question (that phenomenon that always happens when you post a question ) I accessed my cpanel via IE (using https://) and when I got the "accept this certificate? yes or no or view" dialog box, I clicked on [view certificate] and compared the info there with the various certificates I have in Firefox--side by side. So I found which one to delete (plain.rackshack.net i think) and viola was able to add it again once I visited my cpanel in FireFox!! Hope that helps someone!! later, !!blue

I *love* Firefox... LOVE it! So my only prob is aptly described below (a post on the Mozilla Forums by someone with a similar prob): This happened after Server 27 was re-built(?) from a backup a while back. So how can I find out which key is for my website www.zoblue.com on Server 27. I submitted a Help Desk ticket concerning *adding* the new certificate and was told I couldn't do it (cuz it won't overwrite the existing one). Hence the need to know what certificate my site uses to be able to delete it and re-add it. thanks in advance !!blue

I know there's a way to set Firefox up to automaticlaly open certain files with a certain application. I can't check now since I don't have access to a PC with Firefox at work. For example, always using Word to open Word docs or always using Winamp to play mp3's. That might be an option? later, !!blue

BTW: an image tag can have both the alt and the title attribute. The alt attribute shows up in case the image doesn't download and the title tag is what is *supposed* to show up when you hover over the image. So if you have a picture of your dog, it can be as follows: <img src="images/mydog.jpg" title="Kpax chilling on the lawn" alt="image of my pet dog Kpax" height="150" width="170" border="0"> Some browsers do this better than others. Sorry if it's off topic. later, !!blue

Thanks for all the great info! :-D I'm hesitant to start changing things around and plus I don't have as much free time as I use to I might as well do the free MT3.0 cuz I only have one author (me) and one blog. I hope they keep their forums open if I need help cuz I wouldn't get Tech Support. Not that I ever needed tech support, their forums were usually enough to find help tho they take their time if you're problem's not major. 'sides, a friend of mine is of the idea that soon other blog tools will start charging if MT gets away with it. later, !!blue
-
Ok, that helps me calm my fears... thanks! I'll wait around to see if MT changes their tune... if not I'll have to balance whether I want to pay or just use th efree version. later, !!blue
