goodtogo Posted April 7, 2004 Posted April 7, 2004 I use CSB (cutesitebuilder) because I'm a idiot. I can't figure anything out (it seems) so...I took the easy way out. My web site is hosted by the same company that I've had my email with since Al Gore invented the internet. Cuz I'm an idiot. I now want to add a bulletin board (remember I'm an idiot) and was referred to this site. I was wanting something that I could implement into my existing site with a modicum of difficulty. I understand you can host this bulletin board even though my site is hosted somewhere else? (I pay ten times as more than you charge and prolly get half the service you provide.) You know what that makes me? I need easy. (I mean "retarded" easy) cuz... I'm an idiot. I s this possible? Are there simple controls like.... Background: click to pick a color ...and stuff like that? Can I just pay you some money and make it happen pretty fast? Is it almost as simple as adding a link? Can I make it match the rest of my site, pretty much? Why would someone eat a cantaloupe the first time? Have you seen the inside of those things? Quote
TCH-Rob Posted April 8, 2004 Posted April 8, 2004 I use CSB (cutesitebuilder) because I'm a idiot. We have many CSB users, it makes no one an idiot. I now want to add a bulletin board... I understand you can host this bulletin board even though my site is hosted somewhere else? This is possible. You know what that makes me? Smarter for comming here Are there simple controls like.... Background: click to pick a color ...and stuff like that? Not quite that simple with those that come with your hosting, but there are a few tutorials and we can always assist as well. Can I just pay you some money and make it happen pretty fast? We do not have that service here that I am aware of. Is it almost as simple as adding a link? To get to it, yes. To create it, yes. To modify it, not quite. Can I make it match the rest of my site, pretty much? Yes Why would someone eat a cantaloupe the first time? Have you seen the inside of those things? I first tried it after it was gutted and slaughtered so I didnt get to see it before hand. Quote
goodtogo Posted April 8, 2004 Author Posted April 8, 2004 Thanx... The only option packages I saw all related to hosting? I didn't see anything that applied to buying server space for a message board? I would like to do this but can't figure out what button to push. Is this unique? (I mean, just going for the bb?) I see that providing the forum software is part of your hosting package but where do I fit in? Since I don't need total site hosting will I have to buy the bb software? I still think the inside of a cantoloupe is the grossest thing on Earth. Quote

I would like to do this but can't figure out what button to push. Is this unique? (I mean, just going for the bb?) You will need a hosting package, you dont have to have a domain to get one, just something we can create the account by. Pick a package and then install the bb from the cPanel. There is a drawback though. Your link will point to serverxx.totalchoicehosting.com/~yourusername and not ******/buliten-board. I can think of some things that are a bit more disgusting than that but will refrain. Quote
goodtogo Posted April 8, 2004 Author Posted April 8, 2004 It will stay within my frames though... wouldn't it? I didn't mean to imply CSB users are idiots. I only meant I picked it because it was user friendly and that I am an idiot. This stuff drives me nutty but... somebody's gotta do it...eh? (I may be lazier than I am idiotic but...that's another debatable topic.) Will it look like it's a part of my site? That's the main thing. I'll have my name stamped all over it so where it points will be no big deal. What could possibly be grosser than cantaloupe internals? Never mind... mebbe I don't wanna know. Quote
TCH-Rob Posted April 8, 2004 Posted April 8, 2004 It should stay in a frame, I havent tried it but I dont see why not. You can change the colors to look more like your site than the default colors. Quote
goodtogo Posted April 8, 2004 Author Posted April 8, 2004 I appreciate all this help. Two last questions and I'll only bug you on the tech help board from now on. How much space should I buy to run a board? I know you have no idea how much actual posting will go on but what would be a good starting spot? The bulletin board (like I see here) does come with every package...right? Quote
TCH-Don Posted April 8, 2004 Posted April 8, 2004 (edited) Yes this very same IPB board is an easy install in your control panel In your welcome e-mail after you sign up you will find a link to get to your web space and conrol panel (cpanel) there you will find a link called scripts library. In there you will see InvisionBoard a web bulletin board system. just follow the prompts to install. But I am wondering, if you are paying so much more for your current hosting, why not move your site to your new web space here and have it all in one place? If you have any questions, don't worry, there is always someone here to help. Edited April 8, 2004 by TCH-Don Quote
goodtogo Posted April 8, 2004 Author Posted April 8, 2004 I'd love to move it here. Alas, I signed a one year contract about two months ago. I have three web sites (prolly small by y'all's standards) and I pay 150 a month plus another 20 a month for email. My reason for signing with them is because they are local and I just have to be able to get someone on the phone when I have a problem. I am not articulate enough a typist to get things across and I usually need help RIGHT AWAY when I need it. Quote
goodtogo Posted April 8, 2004 Author Posted April 8, 2004 Don ~ could you recommend a package for me to start with? I honestly have no idea? Quote
TCH-Don Posted April 8, 2004 Posted April 8, 2004 You could just start with the smallest, the starter plan with 300 megs of space and over 5 gigs of bandwidth is a lot unless you have a very high profile site. You can alway upgrade to a larger account later. you do not say how active your site is, but for me I get about a 1000-1500 visitors a month, so not a high profile site, and I barely use much of my bandwidth (allowed traffic per month). goodtogo Posted April 8, 2004 Author Posted April 8, 2004 SOLD! I'm signing up now. Thankyaberrymush. Quote
kajoiner Posted April 8, 2004 Posted April 8, 2004 I still think the inside of a cantoloupe is the grossest thing on Earth. I waited as long as I could, but can't stand it any more. How could you not eat the cantoloupe. Get them nice and cold, with a little salt on a hot summer day. Nothing better. But I am from the south and got them and watermelons out of the garden. My mouth is watering just thinking about them. Quote
goodtogo Posted April 8, 2004 Author Posted April 8, 2004 Cantaloupes are great (especially with a sprinkle of pepper) but, the guts? If my wife made me clean them I'd starve before I ate one. And yes, the same goes for fish, turkey and anaconda. Quote
boxturt Posted April 8, 2004 Posted April 8, 2004 You can't go wrong! You really are "good to go" (especially with a 30 day guarantee) berry mush? cantelope? I'm thinking I see a pattern here.... Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted April 8, 2004 Posted April 8, 2004 One thing to point out. You say you have three web sites. Is that three domain names pointing to three different web sites? If so you would need additional accounts for the other two or you will need a reseller account that will allow you to have more than one domain hosted. Just wanted to make sure it was clear. Quote
goodtogo Posted April 8, 2004 Author Posted April 8, 2004 Yes, I have three different domains and three different accounts. I pay $49.99 a month for each account. Plus $19.99 a month for mail. I feel like a dummy but I didn't know any better. Quote
Samrc Posted April 8, 2004 Posted April 8, 2004 WELCOME TO THE FAMILY Rock Sign Glad you took my suggestion to see what TCH is about! You will like it at TCH so much that at the end of the contract you will move your site over! Ain't no place on the web like this place. Thumbs Up -Samantha Quote

goodtogo Posted April 8, 2004 Author Posted April 8, 2004 Yeppers Sam... so far so good. Is qualms a word? Whether it is or isn't...I have no qualms about moving over here at the end of my contract. Quote
TCH-Don Posted April 8, 2004 Posted April 8, 2004 With a resellers account you can have it all in one package for only $20 a month including email. Or if you need more space or bandwith a larger reseller account is still far more reasonable and you have more control of each account. Quote
goodtogo Posted April 8, 2004 Author Posted April 8, 2004 I'm gonna check and see if they will let me off the hook. If not I'll definitely move everything after my contract expires. I doubt they will, since I'm paying their kids college tuition and putting air conditioners in their dog's houses. Quote
