jme574 Posted March 21, 2004 Posted March 21, 2004 I am new to the whole website thing. i have tried to figure out html and got the start of it but then it got complicated for me, so i bought a program for "dummies" called Web Easy 4.0. I put up a little one page info site for my Mobile Disc Jockey company and it was ok for starters but now that the business has picked up, I thought that i needed something that looked better than a 3rd graders weekend project so i bought the upgrade Web Easy 5.0. Now with the 4.0, all i had to do was drag and drop pictures and text on a page where i wanted it and hit publish and put it into my www file, and that worked. But now with the 5.0, it has more options such as flash and swift ect.... Same principal, but when i go to upload everything into the www folder (as it worked before) it doesn't load the page. when i go to the website all the files are listed in the index instead of showing my webpages. I know, even sounds newbie! Any Help? I pretty much have the site i want to put up there for now, but everyone i talked to wants to charge an arm and a leg for website design when all i really need is for someone to take what i got and make it work on a website. thank you, Phillip Hollowell Quote
TCH-Dick Posted March 21, 2004 Posted March 21, 2004 Assuming I am looking at the right site. I only see the cgi-bin in the index of your site. Did you remove the files you uploaded. What did name your main page? Are you uploading to the public_html directory? Quote
jme574 Posted March 21, 2004 Author Posted March 21, 2004 i actually have 2 sites, fullefx.net and indianadjs.com. i pulled both of them down when i checked them and seen that instead of publishing the site it just published the index files. i put a test page back up on fullefx.net so you can see what it is doing. when i publish it i published to the public_html folder and this is what happened. The main page i believe for this example, was titled Full EFX Mobile Entertainment. If you click on the file full_efx_mobile_entertainment.htm it will show you what the test page was supposed to look like and you can even go through the links, but it didn't publish as a website. thank you for any help and input you can afford. bellringr Posted March 21, 2004 Posted March 21, 2004 Just an fyi - you really ought to keep your file names shorter. In theory you can make them up to 256 characters (or whatever the current limit is), but longer ones can potentially cause issues when working with the web. Quote
TCH-Dick Posted March 21, 2004 Posted March 21, 2004 (edited) you need to change full_efx_mobile_entertainment.htm to index.htm Edited March 21, 2004 by TCH-Dick Quote
SlitheryImp Posted March 21, 2004 Posted March 21, 2004 Changing the name of the "full_efx_mobile_entertainment.htm" (your home page) to "index.htm" should fix your problem, but change the name in your HTML editor otherwise you will have dead links on your other pages. Your other pages will most probably be renamed to index_002.htm, index_003.htm... but that shouldn't be a problem. * EDIT - Dick beat me to it * Quote

Phillip, you should also change the Tilte to reflect the page e.g. Change ><TITLE> Full_EFX_Mobile_Entertainment - Page: 2 of 5 </TITLE> To ><TITLE> Full EFX News</TITLE> Quote

DarqFlare Posted March 21, 2004 Posted March 21, 2004 In case you wanted to keep the page's filename the same, you could have always added the following line to your HTACCESS file: >DirectoryIndex full_efx_mobile_entertainment.htm Anyway, you've got it fixed, so this is for reference. Quote
