sodbayar Posted January 29, 2003 Posted January 29, 2003 hi, just 2 questions. can i change the theme of my forum board and if i can where can i get other themes??? mine's the default subsilver at the moment. Quote
Head Guru Posted January 29, 2003 Posted January 29, 2003 Yes you can. In fact you can build your very own templates for PHPBB. Here is the PHPBB Boards... A awesome place to read about things. http://www.phpbb.com/phpBB/index.php Quote
sodbayar Posted January 29, 2003 Author Posted January 29, 2003 okay thanx. i kinda created mine but in a different way. i changed the icons or pictures and uploaded it with the same names and changed the others names and it now looks like this sbmgl Quote
sodbayar Posted January 29, 2003 Author Posted January 29, 2003 Thanx. is there any other ready to use themes other than subsilver??? but good looking one. Quote
TCH-Rick Posted January 29, 2003 Posted January 29, 2003 Thanx. is there any other ready to use themes other than subsilver??? but good looking one. I found the following site when I ran a google search on "themes phpbb": PhpThemes I use InVision Board and have several skins for it. There are more available for PhpBB, though. Good luck in your search. Quote
Head Guru Posted January 29, 2003 Posted January 29, 2003 Invision board is so stable and easy to use. Also the code is less CPU hungry. Quote
TCH-Rick Posted January 29, 2003 Posted January 29, 2003 Invision board is so stable and easy to use. Also the code is less CPU hungry. I love InVision Board. It's was easy to set up and is easy to maintain. I had wondered how it compared in regard to CPU usage. It certainly is fast. Now if only the upload avatars function would work on here, I'd be able to change my avatar from the current one as a sign of gratitude. Quote
KevinW Posted January 29, 2003 Posted January 29, 2003 I don't see Invision as an option on my CPanel ... so how would anyone know about it? -kw Quote
Lianna Posted January 29, 2003 Posted January 29, 2003 Invision Board is not a cPanel option. Only phpBB. However, because HeadGuru likes it so much, it can be installed for you on request. He has made that offer here on the forums. Lianna Quote
sodbayar Posted January 29, 2003 Author Posted January 29, 2003 great thanx. there's lots of themes i like so thanx again Quote
sodbayar Posted January 29, 2003 Author Posted January 29, 2003 hi again. i found this Xoops thing. is it just like the php or do i have to install it to use it? or can i just change the theme to one of xoops's theme?? Quote
TCH-Rick Posted January 29, 2003 Posted January 29, 2003 I don't see Invision as an option on my CPanel ... so how would anyone know about it? -kw You can download InVision from www.invision.com and install it. The directions are great and it is pretty simple to set up. You just have to be sure to follow the directions about setting the permissions correctly and if you don't it warns you and waits for you to fix it. I had problems on a different host getting the skins (same as themes) to work correctly but had no problems on here. They even have import filters to move a phpbb to Invision. Quote
sodbayar Posted January 29, 2003 Author Posted January 29, 2003 how do i add themes??? i uploaded it and went to the configuration but the names are not appearing only the default subSilver is there. how can i do that?? Quote
sodbayar Posted January 29, 2003 Author Posted January 29, 2003 i visited the invision.com but couldn't find the download. could any of you guys please find me the link please. coz when i put www.invision.com it's coming as www2.invision.net Quote
KevinW Posted January 29, 2003 Posted January 29, 2003 Sodbayar, first, don't worry about www -vs www2 -- second, URL is wrong, it.s not invision.com but invisionboard.com third, the download can be found at http://www.invisionboard.com/download.cgi fourth, to save you a lot of work ... apparently you can submit a helpdesk request and have Invision automatically installed for you - no downloading, no work, no mess! -kw Quote
TCH-Rick Posted January 29, 2003 Posted January 29, 2003 Oops....thanks, KW, for correcting my URL's. That's what I get for going by memory rather than double checking. It is a great program, though. As for install, I enjoyed figuring it out. Invision was the first PHP program I tryed installing and it went very smoothly. I also installed a photo gallery program that, while a nice program, was far from user friendly in the install instructions. Quote
sodbayar Posted January 29, 2003 Author Posted January 29, 2003 hey thanx a lot. my request is sent and now i am just waiting. hey do u guys know about xoops, (u guys probably know) i want to install it to my site and to install it do i drop a ticket to the helpdesk or can i do it myself??? if i can do it myself how? hehe please help me Quote
Lianna Posted January 30, 2003 Posted January 30, 2003 Stop. We have two different conversations going here and poor sodbayar is getting lost in them. First, sodbayar, you are talking about phpBB. It is completely different application of bulletin board than Invision Board. The subsilver theme is a phpBB default theme. Invision board themes, to my knowledge, will not work with a phpbb board. Xoops, I dunno. If you can tell me where you found it, then I will happily try to help you further with this. Lianna Quote
TCH-Rick Posted January 30, 2003 Posted January 30, 2003 how do i add themes??? i uploaded it and went to the configuration but the names are not appearing only the default subSilver is there. how can i do that?? I installed PHPBB on my host and played with it a bit. I went to phpthemes.com and downloaded a theme to try. It's really pretty easy to install a new theme but is a little different than the process in Invision Board. After you download the zip file with the theme you want, unzip it to your hard drive. I unzipped it to a directory called skins. It should unzip to a subdirectory in that directory called by whatever the name of the theme was. Upload that directory into the templates directory within your phpbb directory. Then go to the admin program (www.******/boarddirectory/admin should get you there) and choose Add in the Styles Admin menu. The new theme should be listed and you can choose install link beside the name to finish the installation. To make the new theme your default for the board go to General Admin and select it from the drop down menu. To make it the only option select yes for Override user style. Have fun. Quote
sodbayar Posted January 30, 2003 Author Posted January 30, 2003 nah nah i understand them all. but what i asked is how to change the themes of phpBB i mean if i install invisionboard then i am gonna have to install my forum again or i can have 2 forums right? anyways www.xoops.org this is the thing i was talking about. i want the invision board to be installed anyway coz u guys got it. thanx Quote
sodbayar Posted January 30, 2003 Author Posted January 30, 2003 ooh ok thanx Rickvz, you're saying that i have to upload that unzipped files to the directory called templates right??? Quote
TCH-Rick Posted January 30, 2003 Posted January 30, 2003 It appears so. The process I described works so it appears you have to unzip them. Some other boards work differently but that's the way PHPBB seems to work. www.phpbb.com has lot's of info on running the board. Quote
sodbayar Posted January 30, 2003 Author Posted January 30, 2003 ok i uploaded it and went to that page under styles admin and clicked add but there's nothing in there. the template i uploaded is not appearing there. do you know why if you know please reply thanx Quote
sodbayar Posted January 30, 2003 Author Posted January 30, 2003 okay okay i got it. thanx very much. Quote
sodbayar Posted January 30, 2003 Author Posted January 30, 2003 hi i got a very very big problem now. i changed my theme and that theme doesn't have any pages or links to the administrator section and now i can't change my theme back and cannot control anything and also that themes is so not good anyone please help me how to change that theme back please please. Quote
Lianna Posted January 30, 2003 Posted January 30, 2003 Try this link syntax: http://******/forum/admin/index.php and change ****** to Your domain and change forum to your forum directory name (if necessary) Lianna Quote
sodbayar Posted January 30, 2003 Author Posted January 30, 2003 it's giving me this error Template->make_filename(): Error - file ./../templates/VereorSpiderMan/admin/index_frameset.tpl does not exist i dunno what to do. all my posts will be lost please help. Quote
Lianna Posted January 30, 2003 Posted January 30, 2003 ok, hang on just a sec and let me find the db setting for default. I'll be back. Lianna Quote
sodbayar Posted January 30, 2003 Author Posted January 30, 2003 ermmm sorry but can i go to my database and change the selected theme to the default or to subSilver? is that possible so it can be replaced. Quote
Lianna Posted January 30, 2003 Posted January 30, 2003 Drop a help desk ticket on this and I will get it fixed up. Please make sure to include your username and password to cpanel in the helpdesk ticket. I will also need your admin username and password to your phpbb. Ignor the PM I sent you. It's a bit more complicated than I originally anticipated. Lianna Quote
Lianna Posted January 30, 2003 Posted January 30, 2003 Yes, it's a database change, but I might have to finesse it a bit. There's no clear setting for default theme for the board. It is actually saved by user. Lianna Quote
sodbayar Posted January 30, 2003 Author Posted January 30, 2003 yeah but there's an option for allowing the users to change the themes. and i chose the users can't choose one. Quote
Lianna Posted January 30, 2003 Posted January 30, 2003 Ok, with much thanks to Rick, I have the theme loaded compeltely now. Please try it. Lianna PS. I will go close the helpdesk ticket. Quote
