In the past couple days my email client has been telling me that it couldn't retrieve my email and asked me to re-enter my password. It has been working fine for however long before 2 days ago, but all of a sudden my password now seems to be bad. Well, not remembering it off the top of my head, I went in and changed the password for my email account and it worked fine for a while, but now it again does not appear to be working. I know that the password is correct because I just changed it.

Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. For example, It hasn't been working for a couple hours now, but I just took the account back online and it is downloading email messages, so obviously my password is now valid.

Any ideas on what could be causing this or what I can do to prevent it in the future?

Hi schester.

Please submit a help desk ticket specifying which server you are on and describing the problem. This looks like something an admin should take a look at.

If the admin comes to the conclusion it's nothing wrong with on server end, post another message here and we'll try to figure out what's wrong

Hi Schester,

Which email client are you using and on what OS?

I had a problem with Outlook 2002, it would not retain my passwords and it would ask me to re-enter them. It is a known problem with Outlook 2000/2002 on W2K or XP. If that is what you are using, you can check out their solution at Microsoft Knowledge Base

This solution worked for me, but it would only work temporarily, like for a week or two and then it would stop and I would have to follow the steps again to correct.

Later I re-formatted my computer (for other reasons) and now I don't have that problem at all.

HTH!

I've had the outlook password problem too, but I'm now using Apple Mail on OS 10.2.8 on a dual 2.0 G5 and a 15" Al Book G4 (not at the same time).

I know it isn't a problem with it remembering the password because even if I type it in it doesn't accept it.
