I'm trying to set up a parked domain, but it seems I have no permision to do that.

I didn't change the DNS servers of my main domain yet. Parked domains only works after my main domain is working?

If you are trying to get your main account's address to point at your domain, then all you need to do is go to your domain name register and change your DNS server to ours (listed in your welcome email).

Now if you are wanting to park a second domain name, the only rules are it has to be pointed at your main account, such as www.mysite.com is parked on top of www.mysite.net. To do this, you'll need to put in a help desk ticket, and we'll do it for you on the server side.

Hope this helps!

What are parked and addon domains ?

Pretty common question, so (if I recall correctly):

A parked domain is an additional domain name that points directly to your main directory, same as your main domain name. If your main domain is maindomain.com and you park parkdomain.com onto that account, whenever a browser points to parkdomain.com they get the same page as maindomain.com. It is commonly used when you have a "block" of domain names that you want to all point to a main site. An example might be ****, mydomain.org, mydomain.net and maybe my-domain.com.

An addon domain is a domain name that points to a subdirectory and/or subdomain in your account. For example, if you set up a "family" folder in **** and make it a family.**** subdomain, then an addondomain (like myfamily.com) would point to that folder.

Is all that clear? It seems I don't know when to stop typing! :(

Also, see this thread.

I'm on the starter plan for $4 per month how many parked and addon domains can I have ? Also do parked and addon domains work in the same way as the main one I mean as do I have to pay for each parked/addon domain ?

You can have as many "parked" domains as you want, as long as they all point to the same thing ie. ****, mydomain.net, mydomain.org all pointing to the main page of your site.

The only charge is the cost of the domain name ($10.95 a year if you register it through Total Choice)

You cant have a domain name point to a subdomain, example you have **** as your main site and you set up a subdomain called subdomain.mysite.com for family photos, you couldn't point a domain called familyphotos.com to the subdomain.

Hope that makes sense.

The starter plan has no parked domains available do I have to upgrade or pay extra ? Crap that sux oh and I thought all cpanels were supposed 2 be v 7 but I'm on server 34 but when i launch cpanel the title of the iexplore window says cpanel 6

To park a domain you have to...

1) own the domain name you want parked

2) submit a help desk ticket and let them know you want it parked.

As for cPanel, scroll down to server information on the left side and you should see Cpanel Version/Build 7.4.2-STABLE Build 117

Ok I submitted the ticket and got a reply done with all the details. But if I go to www.super-nerd.com (the domain I told them to park) I keep getting sent to my old netfirms account. Do I have to change the nameservers or anything ? BTW I had registered the account with Namesdirect but brought it over to netfirms meaning all my settings are available in namesdirect what do I do ?

Yes, all domains you wish to park should also have the nameservers set to ns1.totalchoicehosting.com and ns2.totalchoicehosting.com.

All plans can use parked domains but they have to be parked by us. The starter plan does not allow add-on domains.

You do have CPanel 7.4. If you look at the information bar on the left your will see the version listed. The title in the browser bar still says Cpanel 6 because CPanel has not changed that bit of the template.

I am not sure if this is along the same topic. But, if I parked a domain on my current starter plan, would I be able to access webmail for that particular acct? EX. The hosted domain name is test.com and parked domain is answer.com. Can I set up web mail for me@answer.com?

Thanks,

:) Sara
