JDanniel Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 Hi everyone. My PHP bulletin board is getting spammed. Every forum is getting the identical topic and message, with randomly-generated guest names. I had to delete each spam message manually. It didn't take too long, but if this keeps up, and gets out of hand, I won't be able to get rid of it all. Any way to prevent this, or, at the very least, limit it? Thanks! Jd Quote
JDanniel Posted October 16, 2006 Author Posted October 16, 2006 Do you require registration to post? I thought I did, but these spam posts are from "guests." Quote
TCH-Andy Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 JD, I just had a look, and you can post without registering. You need to login to the admin panel for your board and turn that option off, which will cut down a lot of your spam. Quote
TCH-JimE Posted October 16, 2006 Posted October 16, 2006 Also, if you have a phpBB board, search for the mod/post which changes your form names for logging in too, that cut my spam on my phpBB board by about 90% JimE Quote

I went into Admin and there's a Permissions area with a Simple and Advanced Mode. I changed each forum section to Post/Reg and Reply/Reg. Is that sufficient? Also, if you have a phpBB board, search for the mod/post which changes your form names for logging in too, that cut my spam on my phpBB board by about 90% Can you please elaborate on what that is? Is the mod/post the same thing that I referred to above... the Permissions area with a Simple and Advanced mode? Thank you! Jd Quote
