eurrzcpa Posted July 20, 2006 Posted July 20, 2006 Hello, This occurred on my old vBulletin installation and my new Joomla installation, so I'm fairly sure it's a serverwide problem. The issue is that certain users, even after accepting all cookies, clearing them, and refreshing... Just cannot get logged into the site. Two of the users with issues both say they're using MSN, if that helps. One has parental controls turned on, the other does not. Sometimes it will log them in, but if they click a link, they will immediately be logged out once again. I appreciate any help or direction you can turn me for this problem! Quote
Samrc Posted July 21, 2006 Posted July 21, 2006 Welcome to the Forums! Even though you reset cookie settings, did they clear temporary internet cache? And have you verified that the case of the user name and password is correct (CAPS is not the same as CapS) Are either of the people using accelerators to speed up connections (some of them can really interfere with many web features)? stevevan Posted July 21, 2006 Posted July 21, 2006 (edited) Seems a little weird to be a server issue, but then again, anything is possible! Have you tried looking for anything like this in the Joomla! forums? Maybe someone else has had a similar situation. And where are my manners? Welcome to the forums! TCH-JimE Posted July 21, 2006 Posted July 21, 2006 Welcome to the forums! First question, which i had to wrestle with alot it is, are the two bridged and if so what bridge are you using? JimE P.S Have they done the cookie dance? step 1. log out step 2. clear your browser cookie step 3. clear your browser cache/temporary internet files step 4. close your browser step 5. go back and test step 6. hold one foot in the air and spin around three time singing "Do the Cookie Dance, yeah, yeah, yeah." Don Posted July 21, 2006 Posted July 21, 2006 (edited) Hi eurrzcpa (how do you pronounce that?) Are they using an out-of-browser cookie catcher like ZoneAlarm? Do they have an alternate browser installed and, if so, do they get the same results? Edited July 21, 2006 by Don Quote
eurrzcpa Posted July 21, 2006 Author Posted July 21, 2006 Welcome to the Forums! Even though you reset cookie settings, did they clear temporary internet cache? Thanks for the welcome! Yeah, I've had them clear the cache. That was my first instinct, but appears not to be the problem. Neither of them are using accelerators, the only thing they have in common are their use of MSN. I'm not sure if that's where the problem lies however. Seems a little weird to be a server issue, but then again, anything is possible! Have you tried looking for anything like this in the Joomla! forums? Maybe someone else has had a similar situation. Yeah I should take a look at the Joomla forums. The reason I came here though is because a similar issue was occuring on my vBulletin installation, making me think it goes beyond just Joomla. First question, which i had to wrestle with alot it is, are the two bridged and if so what bridge are you using? P.S Have they done the cookie dance? step 1. log out step 2. clear your browser cookie step 3. clear your browser cache/temporary internet files step 4. close your browser step 5. go back and test step 6. hold one foot in the air and spin around three time singing "Do the Cookie Dance, yeah, yeah, yeah." Yes I did the cookie dance, unfortunately to no avail. The two are not bridged, my license actually expired on vBulletin so i removed it from my server and started fresh with Joomla. So no connection between the databases or the login information. Hi eurrzcpa (how do you pronounce that?) Are they using an out-of-browser cookie catcher like ZoneAlarm? Do they have an alternate browser installed and, if so, do they get the same results? I wish I knew how to pronounce it. I kept it as my forum username so I can remember it more easily . I'm going to have them test with an alternate browser later today. They don't have anything like ZoneAlarm however. Thanks for the suggestions everyone! EDIT: TCH-Bruce - I've edited out your username - also there is a limit of 6 quotes per post. So I removed a couple of thank you replies. Quote
TCH-JimE Posted July 24, 2006 Posted July 24, 2006 Hello, Is MSN the ISP? If so, do they surf using some MSN browser or software? E.g. AOL has its own browser which is not always suitable. Just a thought JimE Quote
rowanp Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 I'm having a similar problem with phpBB. None of the users can stay logged in to the forum. On http://www.phpbb.com/kb/article.php?article_id=69 it says "The most likely cause for this is that the server is not set up correctly to use sessions". Any help would be appreciated Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 If you think it is a server issue, please open a ticket with the help desk. The mods don't have access to the servers or your account. And please check the forum guidelines. DO NOT cross post your questions into multiple threads. Quote
TCH-JimE Posted July 31, 2006 Posted July 31, 2006 Like Bruce says, if you think its a server issue, then please do submit a help desk ticket. Gut instinct tells me its not though. Can you please both of you supply your Cookie details for the phpBB and what path the folder is that holds this install Many thanks JimE Quote
