natimage Posted June 23, 2003 Posted June 23, 2003 Hello, Someone recently asked me if it is possible to have material on an 8mm video (her wedding...many years ago) transferred onto VHS? I didn't have a clue, but I told her I knew of a forum with a very large knowledge base!!!! Anyone out there with 8mm video experience?????? Tracy Quote
TCH-Don Posted June 23, 2003 Posted June 23, 2003 http://www.vintagevideo.com/production/services.html http://www.digitalcopycat.com/cine.htm http://www.creativevideoexpressions.com/ are a few I have seen in broadcast eningeering, be sure they will use electronic transfer, that is convert 24 fps to 30 fps to eliminate flicker. surefire Posted June 23, 2003 Posted June 23, 2003 I haven't done it myself... but I've looked into it for some old film my parents have. It can be done. I'd go to a professional who can clean up the 8mm if necessary. Maybe they should consider burning a DVD while they're at it. I think most major cities will have a video professional that can get it done. Quote
greatfolios sysop Posted June 23, 2003 Posted June 23, 2003 When you say 8mm, Do you mean 8mm film or 8mm video (Small tape about the size of a pack of cigerettes)? Quote
TCH-JimE Posted June 23, 2003 Posted June 23, 2003 Tracey, There was an Ad on TV here in the UK ages ago for that kind of thing, I suggest you search the net, most video shops should be able to do it for you, if not, tell you where you could go to get it done. Jim Quote
TCH-Andy Posted June 23, 2003 Posted June 23, 2003 Tracy, I've had in done in the UK from 8mm film to VHS, worked very well. Possibly not worth posting over here to have it done, but I can dig out the contact details if you like. Andy Quote
TCH-Don Posted June 23, 2003 Posted June 23, 2003 I agree with jack, A DVD is a good idea, in fact you can make your own VHS from it, if you or someone you know has a newer VHS recorder with an S-Video input, or lacking that audio/video input, for direct transfer. And if it is film, most pro shops will clean the film, but ask. And ask about frame rate conversion, is it electronic or mechanical (the best). Quote
natimage Posted June 23, 2003 Author Posted June 23, 2003 Thanks for all the valuable input. I will tell her to contact a professional video shop. I am confused about two seemingly conflicting statements though: From turtle And ask about frame rate conversion,is it electronic or mechanical (the best). andbe sure they will use electronic transfer, that is convert 24 fps to 30 fpsto eliminate flicker. Do these two statements refer to two separate aspects of the whole process? Thanks again, Tracy Quote
