Pendragon Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 I've been unable to send email lately. I can receive it just fine. Outlook reports it is 'unable to connect to the outgoing server'. If I try the 'test settings', it gives me that error as well as 'the server was found, but there was no response'. Have the outgoing server ports been changed from the defaults and I just missed it? stevesh Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 Chances are it's something your Internet service provider has done, like requiring authorization, or requiring, as ours does, that you use their outgoing mail server, rather than your TCH server. Quote
stevevan Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 Quickest and easiest way to find that out is to drop a ticket to the help desk and have them check things on TCH's side. Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted May 8, 2006 Posted May 8, 2006 Just a guess but it sounds like an authentication problem or your provider is blocking port 25 and/or 26. You don't specify what port you have set up for out going so I am just guessing. As for the test account function in Outlook it rarely works. Quote
Samrc Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 I have Outlook and it can sometimes be downright cranky! It will run beautifully for months then suddenly can't get emails, with no connection. Usual cuprit? My antivirus/spam programs! Though I have used a variety of these programs on two different machines, the one constant has been the Outlook program. What has happened 4 different times: Updated AV or spam catcher program, and during the update/patch the path to the server gets changed! Doesn't happen very often, not with every update, but once in a while, when the program itself is updated (not just the definitions) my settings gett "adjusted". Bruce, believe it or not, when I get my settings correct, my TEST does work for me. Quote
TCH-JimE Posted May 9, 2006 Posted May 9, 2006 Shocking Sam I thought the test account was just for fun purposes! Check your ISP ports and your firewall/antivirus, it will be one of thoose two things. Also, if you dislike outlook, try one of the other rather good email programs out there like thunderbird JimE Quote
