Hello all!

I was searching the internet for a hosting provider and came across TCH. The community seems friendly and from what I can tell, not many issues.

My wife and father-in-law want to take their business online, besides the face-to-face business they have. I'm not new to creating/setting up websites as we have one going now for a family genealogy site. My current host is small and I have no problems with it, however many things that I would need to do for an e-commerce site I would have to do myself, installing my own SSL is just one example. I don't have the know-how for anything like that and they have to Cpanel (just the one they wrote) which is fine for what I have now. Most things done via SSH.

From what I have read here, your plans are fair and reasonbly priced. A couple questions: I'm not sure which plan to use? The site will have a forum (Currently testing e-blah), about 10 pages written in HTML, and a shopping cart (Cube Cart). I don't think there will be a large amount of trafffic as most sales are done locally. I don't want to short change myself and get too little and don't want to over do it either. Any advice?

Also, is there a max number of users you place on a server to keep it stable and do you throttle accounts ( I think that is the right word)?

One more question I just thought about: Do you offer the ability to use local php.ini files? I currently have the ability to do that and run different versions of PHP in different dictories if need be.

Had to edit as I just thought of another question? I see you give shared IP except for resellers. I'm going to get my own SSL and I know it needs a Dedicated IP. How do I go about getting that if I end up going with TCH?

Thanks in advance :cool2:

Please hold on for someone more knowledgeable than me (people with nicknames beginning with TCH, or people with thousands of posts to their name) for more authoritative answers... but here's my 2 cents...

As far as I know, you'll have to purchase your own SSL cert. I think you can get some help installing it.

From the looks of what you have written, it appears that a starter plan would do (700mb storage, 20gb bandwidth). But then again, with forums, bandwidth required really depends on the number of members and their activity/traffic level. You can always upgrade later if necessary.

I'm not sure about the rest... sorry...

Someone more knowledgeable than me will answer them soon... :cool2:

Welcome to the forums wvcrafted and thanks for your interest.

You can have your own SSL cert and you will have access to your site via cPanel. We do not allow shell access on our shared servers - for that you would have to get a dedicated server.

Generally speaking, the Starter Plan can hold what you are talking about, but it really comes down to the amount of traffic you receive. We monitor our shared servers to ensure no one user drags down the resources of all the other users, and if you do we would usually ask that you either stop doing what you are doing or upgrade to a dedicated server. But our servers are sturdy quad-processor Xeon machines so for most people this is not an issue.

Like you said, you don't think you will be getting too much traffic, so the Starter Plan sounds like a good place to start. We allow you to upgrade or downgrade your plan at any time so you don't have to worry about getting locked into one plan for a long period of time.

If you have further questions please feel free to post them here or contact me directly via IM. We hope to welcome you to the family soon!
