Hey all,

This is my first experience working with a web-hosting company, and web-hosting itself for that matter. I'm really happy with how easy the process is with TotalChoice. My question is this -- I uploaded all the files for my web site, but THEN read the bit about all the files needing to reside under the "www" folder (aka "/public_html"). ~~Doh!~~ So, via WS_FTP, I simply did a mass file move from the root of my domain to the www folder.

Since then, I looked at the space consumption, and it seems to be exactly double what it should be. It should be around 180 MB, but it's taking up 360 MB, according to the cPanel. So, I guess I'm wondering if the server actually *moved* the files, rather than just changing file header information, and simply hasn't yet tagged the newly-empty space as being available. How often to the servers defrag? Or, am I missing a critical detail somewhere?

Any help greatly appreciated, and keep up the great work, guys and gals!

I would check and make sure that the files werent just copied from one folder to the other, If you have the files in two locations you SHOULD be able to delete the ones that arent in your public_html folder

Leezard is right, you should check and be sure that the files didn't just get copied. You seem to understand that www is just a link to public_html and that the files aren't actually in two different folders but I have seen folks delete all the files in either public_html or www trying to save space and being surprised when they disappear from both (an thus not be visible on the internet.)

There is also the possibility that cPanel is showing the disk usage incorrectly. Sometimes a change will register immediately, sometimes it will update overnight, and sometimes it will get "stuck" for days. The system itself still is registering the disk usage correctly but cPanel is not reading it correctly. This is a known bug that will hopefully get fixed soon. Let me know what server you are on (you can see this in cPanel at the top where it says "Welcome to Server##") and we can fix it if it is stuck.
