infiniter Posted January 8, 2006 Posted January 8, 2006 Hi! I'm new to totalchoice hosting. I'm unable to connect to my FTP site. My website is www.cotisaweb.com so this is what I did: - started my FTP client application - set the port number as 21 - set the server name as ftp.cotisaweb.com - set the user name and password provided in my welcome e-mail but I get disconnected. I know there is no problem with my FTP client 'cause I use it a lot. I appreciate if anyone could help me. Thanks. Quote
flashram Posted January 8, 2006 Posted January 8, 2006 normally you would login to your ftp account using your username and password that you would use for cpanel for the website. Quote
jayson Posted January 8, 2006 Posted January 8, 2006 I use coreFTP, and the host name for me is "www.jaysarahandy.com" I have never used the FTP.domainname.ext. But maybe different FTP program do thing differntly. But as was started above, if you Cpanel userid/password is: me/here, then in the username and password columns you have to put in me/here. Make sense? Good luck Quote
TCH-Andy Posted January 8, 2006 Posted January 8, 2006 welcome to the family infiniter The other issue, if your account is new, is that the domain name may not have propagated yet, and you will need to use the IP address as the host. If you still have problems, open a ticket and the help desk (link at top of page) and we'll take a look. Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted January 8, 2006 Posted January 8, 2006 Welcome to the forum, infiniter Also make sure your FTP client is set to passive mode. Quote
infiniter Posted January 8, 2006 Author Posted January 8, 2006 Thank you all for your replies and for the nice welcome. I turned off my firewall and problem solved, but I have a new one: Before knowing the solution, I went to the CPanel and created a subdomain named ftp and an FTP account called the same way in order to get FTP access to the subdomain. But then I erased that subdomain, and now there is no answer on ftp.cotisaweb.com. Should I make that subdomain again? Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted January 8, 2006 Posted January 8, 2006 I would open a help desk ticket with support and ask them to have a look. You should not have needed to create an ftp subdomain. Quote
