Ejem... I Dont Know Why This Error Appears

Well, I am pretty new to MySQL and databases, so when I got this erros about 2 days ago, I didn't know what the meaning is.

 

 

I have no idea what to do or why I get that error.

Could anyone explain or tell me the fix? What's that all about backing up the database? and how to do it?

You database has proberley become corrected. You will either need to rebuild it, or do it from backup. The latter being the easiet and safest option

Like I said, I am pretty new to mysql and databases.

I dont think I ever did a backup and if I did, I didn't noticed.

What do you mean by 'rebuild it'? Do I have to set up the boards again and start from scratch, and ask everyone to register again?

Once I have everything working... how do I make backups of database?

rebuild= start over, if the dbase was corrupted all your member info etc is no good so ppl will have to resign up etc.

 

restore a back up would mean you wouldnt lose much if any info depending on when your last back up was done.

 

It sounds like the 1st option is your only choice, but for future reffrence, and to save yourself a few migraines...

 

in your cpanel go to the site management section and your first choice is Backup, click on that and you'll be given a few different options. If you have never made a backup before I would chose full back up. Once you have your full back up you can do daily, every other day, monthly (however often you want) backups

 

Thats how I do it anyway, I may be off here so if someone else more in the know could either verify or correct me on this I'd appreciate it

The Manage SQL section of your Admin CP has a drop down box that included a Repair Table option that you might try before completely rebuilding. That is also where you would go to make a backup of the database so that you can restore it if the database becomes corrupted beyond repair.

well, it sounds like its very important to do backups everyday and to check that the site is indeed online everyday

Thanks everyoine for the advice, but Im still wondering... how come databases become corrupted? is it an error on my side or just the internet's fault?

 

Any tutorials on how to pesonalize the invision board? is it best to use that one or install one from scratch? (something like php or cgi)

Hi,

 

Databases become corrupted for the same reasons that rail falls from the sky, xmas comes once a year etc etc. It just happens. Most of the time its down to bad bit of coding and the database can't take it so it just falls over. Backups are the nesscary part of life these days unfortuantley.

 

Do try to repair it first though, and if that fails, submit a help ticket and we can use the backup tapes we have to put in a database which will be a day old but least it wont mean you loose everything!
