antandsons Posted August 19, 2005 Posted August 19, 2005 Any good recommendations for creating a news feed, not for a blog, but for a main page of a website? Quote
Deverill Posted August 19, 2005 Posted August 19, 2005 Are you looking for suggestions of the feeds to feature or the technology to implement it? For the latter you can check hotscripts.com and other scripting sites for packages that will do it. The former is all up to personal preferences and the type of site you are making. Quote
tamiep Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 I am totally new to the whole RSS thing. I am creating my website in DreamWeaver MX and I will have an on-line newsletter. One section of the newsletter is "product recalls" where I would like to bring in RSS from http://www.cpsc.gov/ I make no $ off of my site, it's about helping the environment by giving and receiving used items rather than buying new stuff and keeping things out of landfills (My members use Yahoo groups to post things), so I don't have a bunch of cash to spend on software. I need something cheap and easy. Quote
MikeJ Posted January 17, 2006 Posted January 17, 2006 For *creating* an rss feed, your best bet is probably going to be any type of publishing software (content management software). Such as most blog software (many of which are free and the commenting features can be turned off to make it more of a publishing platform), as well as other not too expensive (and some free) publishing software like pmachine, drupal, textpattern.. (examples off the top of my head). Most of these have RSS capabilities built in, and may make it easier for you to publish your newsletters as well. It'll save you time from growing your own solution. Most of these can be incorporated into your site well with a little template work, and most of the PHP based ones should work on TCH servers. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of...agement_systems can give you a starting point of finding something. You may just want to ask again when you find something you like, because some are a little too hefty for shared web accounts. Quote
