Howdy.

I was approached today by phone from a lady representing Internetadvancement.com

Anybody ever hear of them?

Is paying big bucks for SEO the right way to go?

If so, Anybody have any experience with who to pay for those services without taking a beating?

thanks.

I just trust the TCH folks and that's a fact from experience.

Mike, I would be really careful who you hire to do SEO...there are a lot of rip-offs out there. If you have a big budget and little time then I would suggest hiring someone for SEO. A good place to find someone reputable is to check out http://www.highrankings.com/forum/. These are folks that are reputable.

If, on the other hand, you're like me and have very little money and more time then I suggest just jumping in there and learning. It's not that hard. Again, join the above forum and you will learn a lot. Another source that I have found very helpful is Planet Ocean's Unfair Advantage book (Google it). It is a subscription service, which is needed in SEO because the search engines make changes all the time.

Good luck and if you need any help, just PM me.

Lise

They called me at home a few days ago, saying that they help sites get high placement on all the major search engines and "would I be interested in that?"

I told the lady that I was in the top 5 or 10 already for the terms 'tweezer' and 'tweezerman' - she asked, "Really?" I said yes, and she asked me, "On all the major search engines? Google? MSN? Yahoo?". I said, "Yes", and she said she'd have to check that out and hung up.

I wish I had remembered some of the squirrely things that I've got high ranking for to tell that lady, such as 'scott peterson mail'. As it was, I was *not* impressed with anyone cold-calling me at home offering me SEO that I don't need or want. Even if I wanted someone to help me with SEO, there's no way I'd hire someone I'd never heard of before that cold-called me at home. Reminds me too much of door-to-door salesman (I don't buy anything from them either). :thumbup1:

As many shifty people that call them SEO experts as there are out there, I'd agree with David on the cold call thing. I'd never use someone that contacted me cold.

Listey also has a great link there to go to for advice. I learned a lot there myself. The people who are regulars there that do SEO/SEM/Copy Writing are high caliber and I'd trust any of the regulars. Be prepared to pay for what you get though because that level of expertise is expensive.

If you do have time to hang in that forum you can request a review for SEO purposes after I think 20 messge posts... just to make sure you're not a drive-by-review requester.

Of course, you can always come here and ask anything and if we know we'll tell ya!

Thanks, Jim, and the rest of you.

I ALREADY knew that this is my mosted trusted forum.

I came to the same conclusions I am reading here and I never buy from the phone anyway. But the good of it is that I am diving head first into this seo thing and see what happens.

Getting much good advice right here in my home court.

Thanks guys.

I agree. Just follow the advice of the TCH group and wait for the spiders to crawl.

Is your phone number they called on the "Do not call" list. Companies are supposed to check this list, and abide by it, when soliciting. If you are on the list you can file a complaint here:

Yeah, there are plenty of scammers out there more than willing to take your money for SEO work. Then again, there are plenty of good search engine optimization gurus out there as well. If you are intrested in working with an SEO firm, the best thing you can do before hand is do your homework. Research the company and see what kind of a background it has.

There are plenty of Online tutorials and articles on search engine optimization too. So if you think the cheaper route might be doing the work yourself, just do a few quick searches in Google and you should be on your way.
