stargait Posted May 15, 2003 Posted May 15, 2003 Has anyone transferred a domain name from Geocities. I have a website there and would like to transfer it to my reseller acct? Steps in doing that would be appreciated. Linda Quote
TCH-Sales Posted May 15, 2003 Posted May 15, 2003 Since geocities pages are usually pretty "simple" i'd say your best bet would be just to download the site on your computer and FTP it back up. Might take some time, but it's probably the simplest approach to the problem. Quote
stargait Posted May 16, 2003 Author Posted May 16, 2003 Guess I didn't ask my question clear enough. Wanted to know if anyone had experience in getting Geocities to redirect my domain name. I paid for a domain name transfer and want to get it in process and needed the basic steps for that. I have already redone all my website in FrontPage and will just delete what is in Geocites when I my domain name set up with TCH. Quote
boxturt Posted May 16, 2003 Posted May 16, 2003 Do you own your domain at geocities or is it part of their free service? -Ty Quote
stargait Posted May 16, 2003 Author Posted May 16, 2003 Not sure, I have the Geocities Pro which says it has free registration of domain name in the $8.95/month acct. Quote
TCH-Don Posted May 16, 2003 Posted May 16, 2003 Can you access a control panel to change the DNS? If so that is all you need, and you can tranfer the domain later. Other wise you will have to ask them to change it, or transfer the domain. Quote
stargait Posted May 16, 2003 Author Posted May 16, 2003 I can't find a control panel access on Geocities. that's why I was hoping someone here has experience in transferring from them. Thanks Linda Quote
boxturt Posted May 16, 2003 Posted May 16, 2003 I read through all sorts of baloney over at Yahoo and of course one can never find anything there. (sooo helpful there, yup) However I did find these 2 items which may help. http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/geo/gbilling...billing-27.html Here I found instructions on how to manipulate your billing and canceling options. I couldn't try it out for you as I have no account there. http://geocities.yahoo.com/v/help/help_form.html This is an email help form that deals specifically with cancellations and what-not. Hope this helps a little. -Ty Quote
stargait Posted May 16, 2003 Author Posted May 16, 2003 Thanks for everyone's replies. I have looked through all their garbage and can find nothing useful. Also have sent several e-mails to which they have not replied. I guess I will just get a new domain name and try to get that one back when it expires. Thanks again Linda Quote
TCH-JimE Posted May 16, 2003 Posted May 16, 2003 Hi, Could you please tell us the domain name and I will have a look and see how its done, who actually owns it. Jim Quote
stargait Posted May 16, 2003 Author Posted May 16, 2003 It is www.stargaitshetlands.com. I went to WhoIs and found an e-mail to which I sent a request for information and have had no response, domain.tech@YAHOO-INC.COM. The main problem is no one from Geocities will answer my e-mails. Makes me REALLY appreciate the quick response I get from the TCH team. Thanks Linda Quote
KevinW Posted May 16, 2003 Posted May 16, 2003 Some good news: First, you are the admin owner of the domain name, which means that you can or should be able to make the necessary changes. Second, small world --- you live in Riverview, FL - I live in Brandon, FL!!! Third, here is what Whois reports: Domain Name: STARGAITSHETLANDS.COM Registrar: MELBOURNE IT, LTD. D/B/A INTERNET NAMES WORLDWIDE Whois Server: whois.melbourneit.com Referral URL: http://www.melbourneit.com Name Server: NS8.SAN.YAHOO.COM Name Server: NS9.SAN.YAHOO.COM Status: ACTIVE Updated Date: 23-nov-2002 Creation Date: 22-nov-2001 Expiration Date: 22-nov-2003 Fourth, so I would suggest containcting Melbourneit.com ar http://www.melbourneit.com.au/index.php adn explain our situation Fifth: you see the entries for NS8.SAN.YAHOO.COm and NS9.SAN.YAHOO.COM? Those are what you eventually want to change to the appropriate TCH name servers. You will or should have received that information when you sign up for a TCH web site. Good luck, kw Quote
stargait Posted May 20, 2003 Author Posted May 20, 2003 Well kw, we are practically neighbors! I took your suggestion and e-mailed the company, will see what happens. Thanks Linda Quote
stargait Posted May 23, 2003 Author Posted May 23, 2003 OK, I emailed the company that was has the domain name, waited the 48 hrs in which they said they would reply and nothing....... Any other suggestions before I give up and just get a new domain name? Thanks Linda Quote
TCH-Don Posted May 23, 2003 Posted May 23, 2003 You could try to transfer it to another registar. If it dosen't work, it won't cost you anything. If it does, you will have control of the DNS settings. Quote
Guest Guest Posted May 27, 2003 Posted May 27, 2003 No, I haven't gotten anyone from Geocities or the domain company to answer me. Linda Quote
