Samrc Posted June 29, 2005 Posted June 29, 2005 Lately my optical mouse has been jumpy. Leaping clear across the page randomly. Immediate thought was scan for virus or other infection. NOPE... My mouse was sprouting HAIR from the optical sensor! Had to get some tweezers to "pluck" my mouse! Now hairless again, it works fine! Moral of the story: hairless mice should be kept away from furry cats for best performance! Quote
bellringr Posted June 30, 2005 Posted June 30, 2005 LOL! Before I was done reading your post I knew exactly what the problem was......because I have to tweeze cat hair out of my mouse at least twice a week. Sometimes I wonder how my cats aren't bald as much fur as they lose. Quote
TweezerMan Posted June 30, 2005 Posted June 30, 2005 I have a cordless optical trackball that "never" needs cleaning according to the manufacturer, but I have to take it apart and clean out the little wads of dust and fuzz that accumulate around the points the trackball rests on when I replace the battery (about once a month). Quote
Samrc Posted June 30, 2005 Author Posted June 30, 2005 Well, after the cleaning, mine got so much better, but this morning it started again. Tonight I will stick it under a magnifying glass and look for more fuzz. I have a second one that maybe I will just swap to... I've cleaned mice with balls many times but it never dawned on me to work on the optical mouse. The one I have at the office has worked perfectly for years in a very dusty environment. Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted June 30, 2005 Posted June 30, 2005 Easier solution would be to get rid of the cats! Quote
bellringr Posted June 30, 2005 Posted June 30, 2005 Easier solution would be to get rid of the cats! <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Blasphemy!! Just wait, Bruce...one day you'll come home and there will be a sweet little kitten sitting on your couch purring like crazy and your heart will melt. And I'll deny having had anything to do with it. TCH-Thomas Posted June 30, 2005 Posted June 30, 2005 I think Bruce only tries to tell that he happily volunteers to babysit (in lack of words) Samanthas cats when she goes on vacation. Quote
TCH-Don Posted June 30, 2005 Posted June 30, 2005 I have to remove fur from under my optical mouse buttons. It amazing how their fur gets every where and they are not bald. Quote

TCH-Rob Posted June 30, 2005 Posted June 30, 2005 I am with Bruce. I have two cats, not mine but my other half's. I hate turning over at night and being attacked by a fluff-ball, walking down a hallway and tripping over a furry racer that is trying to pass me between my feet or having to type everything over again because someone decides to use my keyboard for a bed while I am using it. At least when I had the pythons it was easy to tell if they were out or had been out. At night I knew they were out because they would sleep on my legs and when you have 120 pounds and 16 feet of snake laying on your legs you can't turn over at all. Quote
