elzee Posted June 24, 2005 Posted June 24, 2005 (edited) Hi, I've registered with TCH on Tuesday and published my site yesterday(Wednesday). A couple of hours ago, it showed up, but just an "Index of" with "parent directory".."images"...etc. Did I do anything wrong ? Or I need more time for the website to show up ? Thank you! sorry...here is the site: www.uniquedesignsbyella.com Edited June 24, 2005 by elzee Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted June 24, 2005 Posted June 24, 2005 Where did you publish your site too? It isn't in your domain space. What did you use to publish? What you are seeing when you go to your domain is the default account that was set up when you purchased. Quote
TCH-Rick Posted June 24, 2005 Posted June 24, 2005 It does not look like the site published correctly. There are no files uploaded at all to the account. I looked in the public_html folder and in the root folder and saw no files. Quote
elzee Posted June 24, 2005 Author Posted June 24, 2005 Thanks Rick and Bruce, I just realized that I didn't specify TCH name...;-) I'm going to try again.. Quote
elzee Posted June 24, 2005 Author Posted June 24, 2005 (edited) I tried to publish and I'm probably doing something wrong... Here is what I enter into the FTP portion of my website building software: 1. Remote Publish Directory: http://www.uniquedesignsbyella.com 2. FTP Login Name: Host Name - http://www.totalchoicehosting.com (or IP - was in the welcome email) 3. User name and Password - was in the welcome email, but I changed the password right away. 4. Remote Port - 21 ( it was already there ) The error says that something wrong with the password or name...couldn't connect... Something else: when I click "Browse" under "Remote Publish Directory" I get this: "FTP connection error: unable to connect to: "http://www.totalchoicehosting.com" Please make sure the host, user name, password and port are correct. Last Error: The password was not allowed " Thanks! Something is not right ? :-) Edited June 24, 2005 by elzee Quote
marie b. Posted June 24, 2005 Posted June 24, 2005 Your "host name" is your domain, not your literal host's name. Quote
elzee Posted June 24, 2005 Author Posted June 24, 2005 Your "host name" is your domain, not your literal host's name. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Thank you Marie, I tried and got an error: "unable to set directory to www.uniquedesignsbyella.com" So, I put my domain in both: "Remote Publish Directory" and under "Host Name" ? is it correct ? maybe something wrong with the password... Quote
marie b. Posted June 24, 2005 Posted June 24, 2005 (edited) Remote Publishing Directory would be something like "public_html", I expect. Edited June 24, 2005 by marie b. Quote
tomowa Posted June 24, 2005 Posted June 24, 2005 Hi elzee, It should go as follows: 1. Remote Publish Directory: public_html 2. Host Name: uniquedesignsbyella.com 3. User name: Your user name Password : Your password 4. Remote Port - 21 ( it was already there ) That should do it HTH, Tom Quote
elzee Posted June 24, 2005 Author Posted June 24, 2005 Appreciate your help tomowa and marie b. ! Unfortunately it didn't work. I do get a message that all files were transfered correctly. But right in the beginning, 3 seconds after I start the uplod, Microsoft Antispyware pops up asking me if I want to continue blocking the...whatever... so I click "unblock", and then somewhere in the middle Norton Antivirus gave me its own message that a worm was detected...;-).... they are trying to "help" me...;-) I guess , they both might be a reason ? I'll try again now, with both OFF. Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted June 24, 2005 Posted June 24, 2005 so I click "unblock", and then somewhere in the middle Norton Antivirus gave me its own message that a worm was detected... Are you sure that all files you are trying to transfer are clean? I have norton and no matter how I try transfer a file to my account, norton has never complained. Try to scan your files before you try transferring. Quote
stevevan Posted June 24, 2005 Posted June 24, 2005 I would second Thomas' suggestion...make sure your computer is clean first. Norton (and even Micro$oft Antispyware) shouldn't complain on an FTP session. Quote
elzee Posted June 24, 2005 Author Posted June 24, 2005 Thanks Thomas, Again, the transfer was ok, but the site isn't there, just the same "Directory of". And I scanned with Norton, nothing detected. Maybe something wrong in the "Profile" : Profile Name: Default Export Destination: My Webhost(FTP) I guess the password was ok, since I changed it right after I received the welcome email. Quote
elzee Posted June 24, 2005 Author Posted June 24, 2005 It's SiteSpinner's own publisher(www.Virtualmechanics.com) Do you want a screen shot ? Quote
TCH-Thomas Posted June 24, 2005 Posted June 24, 2005 I went to their site and tried to find a solution, but found nothing, so please publish a screenshot and we´ll take a look, but leave out the username & password. Quote
elzee Posted June 24, 2005 Author Posted June 24, 2005 sorry...how do I paste the screen capture ? right click's "paste" is greyed out. Quote
TCH-Rob Posted June 24, 2005 Posted June 24, 2005 This works http://uniquedesignsbyella.com/public_html/ Your remote directory should be just "/" without the quotes and it should be ok. Quote
TCH-Rick Posted June 24, 2005 Posted June 24, 2005 I downloaded the trial version and published on of the template sites to a test account. If you go to the FTP tab when you go to publish then you should enter the following: Remote Publish directory should be /public_html Host Name should be uniquedesignsbyella.com User Name should be your CPanel username Password should be your CPanel password Make sure the Passive Mode box is checked. That is pretty much it. It looks like the data published but it published to a public_html folder created in your public_html program. One thing you can do is fill out the FTP connection information and click on the Browse button net to the Remote Publish Directory and navigate to the correct folder (public_html or www). Quote
elzee Posted June 24, 2005 Author Posted June 24, 2005 Many Thanks Rob and Rick! I'm curious, why "public_html" and not "index" My old website and everybody else have:... /index Quote
elzee Posted June 24, 2005 Author Posted June 24, 2005 (edited) I want to express my gratitude to all you good people for helping me with this stupid problem. TCH is The Best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Edited June 24, 2005 by elzee Quote
