Hmmm...one would think that by clicking on Tools, Options, Advanced, Software Update, Check Now, that it would find the update. Mine didn't.

That didn't work for me either.

I went ahead to the link Thomas gave us and downloaded the zip file. Can't open it. I get an 'Unspecified Error' message. How useful is that? I'll try again later I guess.

Can you point me to this zip file? I downloaded an exe file and had no problems.

Sorry, my mistake. It was an exe. It was WinZip that reported the error trying to extract the files. My confusion.

Must have been a bad download. I just threw away the old one and downloaded a new one, and it worked fine.

Thanks for asking.

Isn´t the trillian update still alpha or beta, Bruce?

EDIT: I just noticed it isn´t alpha/beta. For some reason the update button within trillian didn´t work.

Thanks Bruce. :clapping:

According to the MozillaZine forums, they will be adding this new release to Firefox's automatic software update in a day or two. They need a bit more time to get it packaged in a way that will work with the auto update. I guess they could have kept the new version under wraps until they had the auto-update version working, but I personally don't have a problem with the fact that they released the "install manually" version first, since we're talking about free, open-source software. :)

Glad you got it working. I looked every for a zipped version :) I thought maybe I was going blind.

Firefox official in a zip used to be available from the site, now I think it's only on the mirror servers, I know a lot of the independents use them. Difference is that the exe writes to the registry (windows version) so you must use that at least once per major version update, then you can use the zip independents to get the optomized build capabilities.if you want to.

I haven´t installed the 1.0.1 yet, even if I was announcing the release here (simply because I am waiting for the swedish 1.0.1 version).

Is there anything I should think about when installing the new version? Such as uninstalling 1.0 before or can I install it over 1.0?

Why I ask is because I ran in to a lot of trouble when upgrading Firefox before.

Well, I take that back. It was working great and now my extensions are all screwed up. I've removed and reinstalled the browser but I cannot get the "Get more extensions" link to work.

oops, I now see you already have 1.0, so I'm not sure, I have not done the new one yet either. I guess the just install over would work fine.

I had problems on one of my desktop computers yesterday. The only way to correct the issues was to remove the 1.0.1 and 1.0 version of Firefox and reinstall it. I removed my profile too.

The other three machines had no problems.

I've done 3 from 1.0 to 1.0.1 without uninstalls and they're all working fine, for what it's worth.

Firefox now has the update available by clicking the (left) icon under the "close window" "X" top of browser window.. Clicking this will check your version and suggest the installation of version 1.01. I did this on two computers and it works well. It also saves all the tweaks I made in the about:config section reccomended in this forum.
