Umagurl Posted March 30, 2003 Posted March 30, 2003 Hey! Im determined to install Moveable type. Never done this before, so the first step, I'm already confused: The following files are Perl scripts: mt-add-notify.cgi, mt-check.cgi, mt-comments.cgi, mt-load.cgi, mt-send-entry.cgi, mt-tb.cgi, mt-search.cgi, mt.cfg, mt-xmlrpc.cgi, and mt-view.cgi. The first line of each of these files must contain the path to Perl on your webserver; typically this is #!/usr/bin/perl. You may need to change this if Perl is at a different location on your webserver, such as /usr/local/bin/perl. If you do need to change the setting, take care not to remove the -w at the end of the first line in each file; this setting turns on warnings in Perl, and it is important that it be left on. Can someone who has installed MT break this down for me? Also, do I need to install the version with libraries or no libraries?! Thanks for the help! Quote
TCH-Rick Posted March 30, 2003 Posted March 30, 2003 You don't need to worry about changing the path to the Perl modules. There is a pretty good description of the steps to take at this link on the Help Page. Quote
nolageek Posted March 31, 2003 Posted March 31, 2003 I've used probably 8 or 9 hosts in my time - I don't think I've ever had to change the #!/usr/bin/perl line. It's pretty much always going to be that. Vincent Quote
liquidcourage Posted February 14, 2005 Posted February 14, 2005 The MT install is so easy. Change the 4-5 lines in the mt.cfg CHMOD the cgi's to 755 create a directory called db CHMOD the db and image directory to 777 run the mt-check.cgi and then the mt-load.cgi MT's installation guide reads a lot harder than it is. chroniker Posted February 15, 2005 Posted February 15, 2005 I just recently installed MT and the way that I did it was to upload the movabletype tar.gz and extract to the server. My problem was/is configuring mt.cfg, and you must set permissions on all cgi to 755. Quote

TCH-Tim Posted February 22, 2005 Posted February 22, 2005 Greymatter is a banned script <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Why? Quote
TCH-Bruce Posted February 22, 2005 Posted February 22, 2005 Known to eat up resources on the server is why. Quote
TCH-Don Posted February 22, 2005 Posted February 22, 2005 Yes it a resource hog and as a perl script not as secure as php it is banned on most shared hosts. Quote
