(DCS. Are you a robot? Every time I post a reply and return to "Fun and Games," you've already replied to my reply.)

Question to VirtualImager: Is this supposed to be a free-for-all, in which one can toss out any random phrase containing "---- in the ----," or is it supposed to be for traditional phrases arranged in the same manner?

For example: "Pie in the sky" is one of the latter, while "soda in the can" is one of the former.

I think using the former deprives the game of any element of challenge.

Good question, I was wondering about that, too. I won't post anymore here until I get an answer -- just to make things fair.

DCS. I appeal to you as a sportsman. Please try to use traditional phrases, as other respondents have. Else there is no game here, but merely a "[fill] in the [blank]" exercise.

Ah. I thank you, DCS. You are a sportsman.

Boojum,

I prefer traditional phrases as well, but this is a game that everyone gets to play and everyone plays at their own level. Kind of like when you're in the car with your kids... they play their way and we play ours. And everyone has fun. I feel your pain...it's frustrating! But it's the way of the world... or at least this forum.

Still, it's a

Also Brian, our friend is still in high school and doesn't have the experience of life that brings extra knowledge of these things. I believe that (Phil is it?) is doing just fine. I believe he has waaaayyyy too much time on his hands as well but I will give him the fact that it is summer break.

That's correct, Rob. You can call me Phil/Walter -- whichever is most convenient for you.

Since it's so hot here, I think I'll take a swim in the water.

Yeah MikeJ... I was going to point that out along with a few other repetitions, but it's a long list to go through every time to make sure we aren't duplicating. Besides,

who in the heck

cares? Maybe we should lobby to get the forum to alphabetize the answers on request? That would make things

easier in the long run.

Thomas... we don't even have any real castles. Finding one would be like finding the proverbial

needle in the haystack.

OK.. I've got my

because this post is absolutely, positively the

Yea, I didn't care, it was just a good lead in for my response.

I don't have a good lead in for this one though...

I'll let one of my favorite authors supply this entry:

"And now was acknowledged the presence of the Red Death. He had come like a thief in the night. And one by one dropped the revellers in the blood-bedewed halls of their revel, and died each in the despairing posture of his fall. And the life of the ebony clock went out with that of the last of the gay. And the flames of the tripods expired. And Darkness and Decay and the Red Death held illimitable dominion over all."

—Edgar Allan Poe, "The Masque of the Red Death."
