I have a Mavica digital camera, and granted - it's a dinosaur, but just recently I've noticed that the colors seem really washed out and everything records much darker than it should, even sky pictures. I've checked all my settings and they seem right. Has anyone else experienced this with Mavica? I know it's past time for a new camera, but I don't want to have to junk this one.

I can tell you though - I won't be buying another Mavica. I don't use half the features and this one hasn't been very reliable. Anyone have recommendations for a reasonably priced, non-Sony digital still camera?

What ticks me off right now is I just took several pictures of one of the coolest skies and they're worthless. They're dark and have no color to them. :)

I have the Mavica CD1000 and it is now going on three years. Its a 2.1 megapixel and I too have noticed an overall loss of color. I get the vivid colors only in direct sunlight and I have made a permanent setting to add a .02 increase in the overall exposure and that seems to help a little. I think most of the color information is there but needs to be enhanced now in a jpg editor of some sort.

I wonder if all digital cameras loose some image qualities over the years? Are the CCDs loosing their sensitivity over time? Is this only a SONY problem?

youneverknow :)

I am still using a Mavica FD200, 2 megapixels, my third Mavica and I love it. Mom has my first one and was experiencing the same problems until she purchased a new battery.

I know several people who have purchased Fuji cameras, A210 Fine Pix being one, and are really happy with them.

If you're not looking for something with a whole lot of features, try a Kodak. I have a Kodak 6200 -- got it for $100. The pictures can get a little grainy in low light, but I like that it is point and shoot idiot-proof. I can give it to someone to take pictures for me, and I don't have to worry about them not taking right, or something.

Thanks everyone! I'm guessing it might be a battery issue. I've also had some troubles with the battery keeping a charge so I'll give that a shot. Mine is an old 1.3 megapixels camera and I'm really itching to get one with at least 4. I like the zoom and the indoor/outdoor/flash settings. What I never use are the sepia/b&w/negative features. I've played with the exposure a little but will try resetting that as well. So I guess I don't want just a point-and-shoot but I don't need everything and the kitchen sink. :(

Unfortunately when the colors and brightness are bad, adjusting them in a photo program just makes them look colorful and blurry. :/

Looks like I have some research ahead of me. :) I'd love to hear from others about their preferences too - any input helps.
