New idea and I don´t know if it´s a good one (so others might disagree) but here goes... If you have a friend or neighbor who uses the same isp, are they able to see your site? I´m thinking that if it is a isp issue, others using same isp must have same problem, or atleast it´s a bigger chance that they have.

At the screen "File Manager Directory Selection", there is a checkbox for it. When you see this screen for the first time there is an option saying "Skip this question, and always open this directory in the future when opening File Manager". If you have checked that option am not sure if you can get this screen back to check the box for hidden files.

After a pm conversation with you and been given a test account I could see the error. You could try Bruce´s suggestion and also check out if this is a php5/mysql5 problem since your server was upgraded today.

Yes, this is a virtual servers (if I understand what your current host is telling you correct). As for which plan to go with, without knowing your exact needs (ie how much space you use now and average bandwidth use/month) it is difficult to recommend a plan but you can always upgrade/downgrade at anytime if you want/need. I forgot to link to the other hosting plans... Virtual and reseller plans. Reseller plans are pretty much the same as virtual plans but you have more control over them and can do more with them.

Welcome to the forum, kmitch2026. If you are wanting a server where you don´t have too many neighbours so to speak, I would look in to a dedicated server. You can read more about them here. Here is an unmanaged versus fully managed comparison chart for the above link. One thing to remember though is that TCH puts a limited amount of people on the servers and does not "oversell" them, so everyone on the server can enjoy its resources.
