  1. was wondering if anyone is able to tell me the correct CHMOD settings for .pref files in the Squirrelmail data directory (I have a custom squirrelmail installation, made before TCH introduced squirrelmail)? unfortunately they got reset due to a server migration, and i had to adjust them manually, from 600 to 777 - but I am not sure whether this is too much?
  2. thanks, no urgency, if it works that would be great, otherwise it's not really a big thing. will wait and see.
  3. well, yes, i guess, i mean that is what the forum says... i wanted to post the code i get to paste into here, but i can't even do that, as i get the same error. both alternates dont work in the signature, giving the above error. would be neat if this works, though it's not essential...
  4. and because this service is set up to only try once, it gives up after one time, correct?
  5. this is one of the email messages that bounced back to me when I sent it from a non-domain address, to my domain address, while the server was down. what does it say (in non-tech speak:))?
  6. duh! thought it didn't and just passed/forwarded the email on... thanks!
  7. was wondering if the above is possible? i know i can set up an alias and have it forward to two separate accounts, but what if i want email sent to one of my main accounts (not an alias), forwarded as well as kept on the server?
  8. was wondering if anyone is able to help me with this. i generated the code for my msn username, and tried to paste it into my signature. each time i get the following error: "The error returned was: You are not allowed to use that image extension on this board. A valid format is: http://www.domain.com/picture.gif, an invalid format is: http://www.domain.com/picture.one.gif "
  9. so there really is no sort of mail server at TCH that does queing of emails or anything of the sort? the last time i had a migration, i was unable to find the mail server using outlook, if i recall correctly. then, once everything was back online, the email came trickling to me, ie all of those that were sent to me while the server was being migrated - first a couple, then a couple more, then a few more. if i would have waited then i could have gotten them all in one go - but what i'm trying to say is that i have this impression that something somewhere held these emails for me, while the server was being migrated. and considering that this was within 20-30 minutes, are you sure this was only just resends from SMTP servers?nothing on the incoming side?
  10. guys, was wondering what the situation is concerning loss of email. what happens when a server is taken down for maintenance or my domain is migrated - do emails bounce or get held in a queue somewhere, by something? if so, by what? recently i had some downtime, and noticed that emails were either getting lost completely (I sent one or two test messages to my domain address, from a non-domain address - both never arrived), or bounced (also sent from a non-domain address). is it not possible to somehow safeguard against this? bouncing emails is bad enough, but someone sending you something which you are never aware of (aka the black hole) is even worse. what precautions do TCH take against this, in migration or maintenance situations? basically, what are the steps taken to ensure no email is lost?
  11. Thanks! What about the checkbox "Log on using SPA (Secure Password Authentication)"?
  12. hi, was wondering whether the above options are useful/can be used with email hosted by TCH - I've tried the latter (SSL) but from time to time I always get a popup saying that the server's certificate is somehow not the one it should be... can anyone explain?
  13. in other words, there is no way to automatically filter messages to be put in one folder or another (whether junk mail or not), based on subject, from, etc?
  14. hi, i'm using the webmail provided by TCH - i've noticed the junk mail folder in squirrelmail, but can't figure out how to activate it. i use spam assasin, so emails are marked as being spam - is there any way to filter them into the junk mail folder automatically? thanks for any advice!
  15. hi all, quick question: i have my own installation of squirrelmail, from before it was installed by default by tch. it has several mods running, one of them being a fetch mail programme, to get mail from other, non-tch, POP3 accounts. the problem is that this mail is not getting filtered by SpamAssassin (the other mail is - just not the mail from the non-tch POP accounts). I was wondering if there is any way to add such a filter. when i look on the squirrelmail page there are loads of plugins (http://www.squirrelmail.org/plugins_category.php?category_id=all), but i am not sure whether any of them would work and be possible to install by just FTPing them over? this is the plugin i am using: http://www.squirrelmail.org/plugin_view.php?id=50
  16. right, i get these errors, eventhough the file is created fine, and i am able to unzip it once downloaded. still, it would be nice to get a 'clean' cron execution message and not this messy one. can anyone hint me toward what might be causing this?:
  17. i did, i did, but couldnt find a simple one - will try this one and see if i can get it to work, thanks! one more question: when setting the time in cpanel for the cron job - what time zone is the server in/set to?
  18. hi all, have trawled the net for a simple backup php script that I can run using CRON but cannot find anything that suits my needs - i am no PHP expert but would like something fairly simple to modify - a script that can, via CRON, backup my public_html directory and save the result as a zip file. aaaaaaaaaaany volunteers?
  19. hi all, was wondering whether anyone could help me. I've removed the files containing a guestbook i had, as well as the mySQL database and user for it. I still get email messages as if someone is trying to access the guestbook (spammers I guess): how do i get rid of these emails? for example, every couple of days I get the following message: any idea anyone?
  20. ah, sorry, didn't realise. click on 'compare by phone' please and then just select any model. it will come up with a nice table, which i would like to be able to do
