Sometimes we need to hear the truth from crumudgeon's. Great post Lee!

Yeah...YET. Maybe they could figure out a way to make a vehicle run on beer! Question...would that then be considered drunk driving?

Sorry I can't answer why your password worked after a good nights sleep. You're right...it doesn't make sense. Hopefully one of our other more knowledgable guru's will chime in with a possible answer. Regarding your question, for security reasons, I would recommend keeping the auto-generated password. (I believe this is the TCH default mode.) Since you are on a shared server, if one user has an easy-to-guess password, that could pose problems for all users (sites) on that server. It's just a prudent security practice.

Welcome to the forums, dasadowski.

Way to go, groovyfish! I think after all is said and done, there will be many more stories like this that will eventually come out!

My condolences to you and your family, Andy.

I'm New To Websites And Can't Get Mine Up

Welcome to the forums, aerofresh! As Rob said, you can search for info on the basics. And if you run into any problems, your TCH family is here to help! -
Makes me wonder if I'll make it back home from Ft. Lauderdale. I've seen it around here from $2.73 to 3.10.

Welcome to the forums, Nylisk! If you shop around, I think you'll find TCH's prices, spec's, and performance are far above other hosting services. I used to be hosted by an ISP I worked for. TCH's pricing, service, and support are far better than that ISP.

I finally have gotten a report on a coworker (and close friend) from the Ocean Springs, MS area (next to Biloxi). He and his family are fine, house has minor damage and a tree leaning on it. He had water in his garage, but none in the house...came within 2" of coming in! From experience, it's hard to put into words what you've just been through. I can only imagine how much worse it is for Mobile, AL west to New Orleans. My heart goes out to those people.

Get better fast Liz! You're in my prayers.

.0932 seconds...with NO coffee or meds!

I'd look at ping times between you and the server. (Take several to get a good "average" reading.) As madmanmcp said, routing issues in the states (esp. here in the south) may be a bit compressed. If I remember correctly, I think one of the major backbones went through New Orleans. If the ping times (averaged out) look pretty much the same, then look at another FTP program. Oh...and welcome to the forums!

Sorry...I can't offer any advice other than what has already been said! (And quite well, too!) Welcome to the forums!

See? Ask for a family member's help.... That's it!

Considering the preliminary video I've been able to see (we lost cable), you are VERY lucky! Power will be a while. Just run the generator when you have to in order to stretch the gas as long as possible. Check in from time to time as things start to get back to normal! Great to hear you and your family are all safe!

Welcome to the forums. Don is right on the money. It's easier (in my opinion) using a separate FTP program. While Frontpage is a good program to use to learn website design (I used it myself), eventually you'll want to move to another program where you'll have more control over the content. There are several freebies out there. In fact, one was mentioned in the forums not long ago, although I can't seem to find it!

As an afterthought...many ISP's frown on hosting a server. You might want to check with your service provider first rather than risk having your service cut off.

Welcome to the forums! The domain name is yours to do with as you want. Although, look over our hosting plans. I'm sure there's one that a high school student could afford. Perhaps the best feature is that you won't have to worry as much about the security of the box as our fantastic technicians keep a tight control on things like that!

Hopefully curtis will be able to post tomorrow. Katrina made landfall in Louisianna about 0530 CDT. We're getting a lot of wind and some rain, but for the most part we're doing good here in Pensacola. I can only imagine what's going on west of here.
-
Whatever will work. We're just starting to get some of the outer bands here in Pensacola. Tornado warnings already for areas around Mobile, AL. The fun is about to start!

After being nailed with Ivan and Dennis, my thoughts and prayers go out to you, curtis. What we got during Ivan was bad enough...and we were about 60-80 miles away from the center! Speaking from experience, things are going to be very difficult in the months to come. Stay low and safe and keep your family up to date as long as you can. The situation here is a little easier, but everyone is still keeping an eye on things. After what I saw and went through Thursday night in Ft. Lauderdale, I'm not gonna stop worrying until the storm is inland.

Very nice! Have to admit, I've spent very little time in Europe...mostly in the Far East. But I'd like to visit sometime!
