Home Alone

This question is more for a staff-type person, but others may benefit from the answer. I currently have a reseller account with several sites, one of which is a "hack-and-whack" URL where I can "play" with scripts, formats, CMS's, etc. to see how they'll look and behave before placing them into a live site. Currently, I am using Joomla! to develop a new and improved version of a site that is currently live at another URL within my reseller account. When this newly developed content becomes more or less ready, is it possible to have the whole developmental site moved over to where the live site is now? Has anyone ever done this before and if so, with what kind of success? TIA.

Of course it's always a good idea to make backups before you start ANY reconfiguration of a site!

PHP isn't really that hard, if you want to take the time to learn it. There is a learning curve, but it's not too bad. I'd recommend getting a book (or two) about it. Check out the "... for Dummies" books. I've gotten several and still refer to the quite often! They're pretty good for helping one to retain their content.

If you are really concerned, I'd drop a note to the help desk. (Link above.) Remember tho'...it's YOUR responsibility to ensure your data is backed up. TCH does it just in case of situations like this. If your data is THAT important, there are several ways that you could set up a daily backup. Search the forums and you'll find a few options.

With POP3, a user can download and manage mail on a local machine. With IMAP, email stays on the server. Each has it's own advantages and disadvantages. If you check your email from different computers, then IMAP might be what you want. If you only use one computer, then POP3 would probably be your best choice. It just depends on how you are going to use email. Webmail, I believe (someone please correct me if I'm wrong), is IMAP. If you are going to use Thunderbird and always use the same computer to check email, I'd suggest using POP3...it's easier!

As Thomas has suggested, verify that you are running the latest version by visiting the Mambo homepage and comparing version numbers. It's your responsibility to keep up with it...not TCH's. Also the password suggestion is a wise idea. For example, just yesterday morning, I set up a Linux machine on my static DSL connection. Within 6 hours, I had three people try breaking into it by running a script that generates common names. So when you choose passwords, make it a combination of characters, numbers, and punctuation. It seems some people have nothing better to do in life than hack into other people's websites.

The way to remove the wireless network connection altogether is to remove the PCMCIA card from the laptop. I personally vote with Bob...remove all of the networking components, and using the "add/remove software" option in the control panel, remove the applicable drivers/programs (providing of course that you have the installation disks) and start from scratch. Take one step at a time. Since you say that you don't use the phone line to share the internet connection, I would not even worry about that at this time I've attached a small jpg to illustrate your setup (at least from what I can perceive from the posts). If it is correct, it may help some of us visualize your configuration and what you are trying to do.

For those using Joomla!, I would STRONGLY encourage to frequently check their site for updates. Updating is relatively painless and usually takes only a few minutes.

That name rings a bell for some reason. A few weeks ago, I was doing some channel surfing on the hotel TV and came across a program in DC that had a young girl, 14 if I remember right, that had a beautiful voice! I don't remember the name, but she was very talented. Sang the oldies such as those from the Big Band era and did it quite well.

FWIW...I have a laptop for work that uses a wireless card. When using the software for the wireless card, I get the same error you showed above when using XP's "View Wireless connections". If the wireless on the laptop is a PCMCIA card (and you have the installation disks handy), you might want to remove the software and reinstall it. It does sound possibly like a driver issue on the laptop. If you don't have the installation software, you might be able to download from the card's website. Just my $.02 worth.
