  1. But they do have 100% uptime...when they're up!
  2. The "back up - back -up back up!" warnings generally refer to your data, assuming you have your programs already on disk. Take your website for example. Would you back up the entire shared server or just the data of your website? The bottom line is if you still want to back everything you'd want one at least as large as your hard drive. (Makes sense, eh? ) You can get drives that plug into your USB port or use a flash or thumb drive like what Bruce described.
  3. Try checking some sites like hotscripts.com. They may have what you're looking for there.
  4. Welcome to Harry & Tina!
  5. You kinda have to look at things from the machine's point of view. It doesn't know whether the emails are valid or not...it just sends. And if things get too much out of hand, TCH has yet another blacklisted server to deal with. And that causes problems for everyone....especially if you're on a shared server.
  6. To access your CPanel, you would enter in your browser https://www.your-web-site.com:2083/ and then enter your username and password that was part of your email. You don't say it, but if you just purchased the domain name, it could take up to 72 hours for the name to fully propogate worldwide. If in doubt, you can always open a help desk ticket and they'll get you straightend out. Regarding the templates, what is it you are looking for? Seeing as this thread referred to FTP program, there are several available as previously stated.
  7. Naw...work is "supposed" to be a 10-hour day (0700 - 1730), but sometimes things have to run late. Part of working for the Government! Anyway, edit your .htaccess file and add the following line at the end of the file: php_flag register_globals off That did the trick for me. (Note: PM'd as well, but posted here for others who might be following this thread.)
  8. You can add this to your .htaccess file. I'm at work at the moment, but when I get home, I'll look at my notes. I found the fix by looking on the joomla site if you want to have a go at it yourself. If TCH were to turn this off for servers running joomla, they'd have to do it on ALL their servers...and that won't (nor needs to) happen!

  14. One other thing to keep in mind is to ask yourself "Do I need to back up everything?" If you made a backup of your computer when you first purchased it, or have the program disks, all you really need is to back up the data. You can shop around online for the best drive per madmancp's suggestion and avoid the salesman's "pushyness". Then, armed with that information, make your selection. Example: My father, who's a pack rat anyway, told me that he recently backed up his computer onto 35 CD's. I told him that since he still had the installation CD's and other programs on separate disks, he should just back up his data. The total number of disks needed went down to 14.

  21. Seeing as this could turn into a learning situation for everyone, then what is the difference between SpamAssassin and Spamihilator? From the Spamihilator web site: They are both using the same type of filter? The other problem is that Spamihilator assumes one uses a stand-alone mail client. Unfortunately, I use several web-based mail programs. But for many people, this program may be just the ticket! Interesting though!

  24. Thomas is correct. As many products as there are, you'll get that many different opinions on how each one performs...depending upon who you ask. I've always offered the opinion to "try them all...just not all at the same time ()" and see which one works the best for your particular situation.
