Safari For Windows Multiple Vulnerabilities
Bob Crabb replied to TCH-Thomas's topic in Software/Scripts/Other Alerts
Thanks Thomas. I use Safari sometimes, mainly to verify consistency in how a page displays in different browsers, so I'll Upgrade right away. -
I saw this topic last night, and upgraded to 3.0 earlier this morning. Although I haven't had a chance to check out all the new features yet, I do like it so far. It does seem to be faster, and there is a 3.0 compatible Web Developer Tool Bar available. Thomas, thanks for the heads up.

I have been a TCH customer for almost 3 years now, and have always been very happy with your tech support. Yesterday, I submitted a ticket through the Help Desk to Tech Support over an issue with a new account that I have set up under my re-seller account. In less than 10 minutes Tom Duncan fixed the problem, responded with a reply, and closed the ticket. LESS THAN 10 MINUTES !!! That is outstanding. It goes way beyond my expectations. Thanks Tom, you guys are the best !!! --Bob

binboing, Thanks for the advice. I do make a practice of sanitizing any user inputs. In that particular case, what I meant to say in the post, but probably posted in a hurry, was that the only database user defined in that application has only select priveleges since that is the only query that the application executes -- hence my perception of there being less of a threat.

Avg Anti-virus New Version 8
Bob Crabb replied to youneverknow's topic in Software/Scripts/Other Alerts
Thanks for the headsup youneverknow. AVG 7.5 (free) got rid of a nasty little trojan on my computer this morning. Shortly afterward, I saw this post, then upgraded to AVG 8. I was comfortable with 7.5, but I really like all the new features of version 8. I just love it, that this is free software. -
I installed SP3 last night, using Windows Update. Everything seems to work fine, and so far there are no surprises except: Every time that I type the word Microsoft, the text is emphasized. What's up with that.

I have no complaints against the phpBB group. Actually I think that it is a great open source project, and I'm glad that such a well supported, sophisiticated forum system is available to us all free of charge. As long as Olympus has been a topic of discussion on the phpBB main forum and on their Area 51 forum, we've known for a long time that the basic script structure, database, and template system was to be completely different with the new release. This has forced me to think through any mods that I have done on my phpBB2 boards, and realize that eventually, I will either have to find a substitute for those mods that someone else has written, or buckle down and write something myself to do the job. While all that might be a pain, and while I wish that the group would support the development of security patches for version 2 for an additional year or so, I can't complain. phpBB and all the mods downloadable from their site are free of charge. That makes asking for a refund a no-brainer.

Jeren, I really like version 3. I just said that upgrading is going to be a pain in the rear. I own 2 boards, and maintain 3 others. The reason why I haven't upgraded any of them yet is because these boards are all heavily modified, and I do not want to lose the functionality provided by those mods. So, I'm waiting for some of the mods that I need to move further along in development before putting them into a production environment. I am at the point where I can probably upgrade one of them very soon, but I also need to re-do the entire site, and I haven't quite decided how I want to go about the re-design. I have been testing phpBB3 since its first Beta release, and I have also been testing many of the mods since their early days of development. I think that when I do finally upgrade, the users are all going to like the additional functionality of the new system, or at least the better like it after all the work I'm going to put into it.

Awesome!!! and yes, now I too am hungry.

I voted for #1. I think that the name stands out better against black. In #2, I think that the ribbon is too large, and doesn't integrate as well into the overall design as the smaller black one in #1.

JTD -- just a note about that mod. I seem to remember there being a problem using EasyMod to install it. If you use EasyMod, you might have to copy the font files manually, or FTP them in binary mode. It has been a while since I installed it, and I might be confusing it with a different mod, but if you don't see the captcha after installing the mod, that might be something to investigate.

phpBB.com announced today that 2.0.xx will be retired at the beginning of 2009. http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopic.p...14&t=900655 Upgrading to version 3 is going to be a pain in the rear for many of us, but at least we're getting a few months of notice.

I agree with MikeJ about the captcha mod. I seldom get any spam registrations any more, using this mod: http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopic.p...15&t=473222 I haven't upgraded any of my sites to phpBB3 yet either, but I am planning to in the next few months when some more of the mods that I need are further along in development. I just saw on the phpBB.com site, however, that they plan to retire phpBB2 earlier than expected. Support will be dropped on 1/1/09, and security patches will no longer be offered as of 2/1/09.
