  5. It has come by the hoem page twice now and took nothing else I also submitted to Yahoo. any ideas?
  6. thanks to everyone so far, I'm almost there - I fixed most the pages - got one problem though - for the pages NOT IN THE MAIN DIRECTORY - how do I make it seem that is in the home directory? If you look at the Interviews and Shows links this will make sense to you. Thanks again to everyone you've dug me most of the way out of a big mess already!
  7. yeah, thanks for focusing in on the problem - the trouble is I now know that "\" is the problem - but I have no idea how to fix it becasue that code is derived from SQL queries - I can assure you that there is now \ stored in the database (I just checked). Here is the actual code that generates the links, which \ should I be nuking - the one before the quote?: <?php $db = mysql_connect("localhost", "xxxxxxxxx", "xxxxxx"); mysql_select_db("musicfr_musicfr",$db); $result = mysql_query("SELECT * FROM leftlink",$db); if ($myrow = mysql_fetch_array($result)) { do { printf("<tr><td><strong><a href=\"\%s\">%s</a></strong></td></tr>\n", $myrow["Link"], $myrow["Title"]); } while ($myrow = mysql_fetch_array($result)); } else { echo "Sorry, no records were found!"; } ?>

  9. my stats package summary on my site www.musicfrisk.com, currently doesn't seem to run at a consistent daily, 24 hour interval. On my old site I often got questions regarding day of the week hit totals from clients. Is there am easy way to get these running at a consistent 24-hour interval? I'm on server 11. I really appreciate your attention at your leisure to this small, quality of life issue. Thanks.
  10. Thanks I got it now, the directory is CASE sensitive. Now how do I add a template and use this contraption?
  11. I can get to the bolded step and it freezes there, any thoughts????? Please help! RUNNING MOVABLE TYPE Now that you have installed the system, you are ready to start using it. Open your web browser and point it at the URL for mt.cgi on your site. mt.cgi is the main Movable Type application. For example, if your site is http://www.your-site.com/, and you installed the Movable Type application into the /mt directory, you'd type http://www.your-site.com/mt/mt.cgi to access Movable Type. You should see the Movable Type login prompt. If you do not, check your permissions, and check that you uploaded the CGI scripts using ASCII mode. If neither of these helps, take a look at Troubleshooting. Log in with the author name Melody and the password Nelson. The first thing you should do is change your author name and password. To do so, click Edit your profile, then change the author name and password there. The next thing to do is to configure your first weblog. A weblog called First Weblog already exists in the system; this weblog will help to give you a head start in setting up your first weblog in Movable Type. First Weblog comes with some pre-made templates; of course you can edit these templates, or delete them, or do whatever you like with them. But they are a good starting point, and will give you a sense of familiarity with the Movable Type template tags and structure. To configure the weblog for your own purposes, click on the link to First Weblog under Your existing weblogs, then click on the link to Weblog Config. Change the name of the weblog to whatever you wish to call your weblog, and enter a description. Then, fill in the path and URL information (Local Site Path, Site URL, Local Archive Path, and Archive URL). Values for Local Site Path and Site URL are provided by default, to give you a sense of what the paths should look like; when setting the values of Local Site Path and Local Archive Path, it is best to use absolute paths (paths beginning with a /), rather than relative paths. Note that all four of these fields must be filled in. You should already have created the directories for your weblog (above, in Create your weblog directories). Fill in the local paths (site and archive) with the full paths to those directories. Then enter the appropriate URLs, corresponding to those directories. Edit any other configuration settings for your weblog; when you are done, press SAVE. That's it! You're now ready to start posting entries to your weblog, editing templates, and so on.
  12. what is that?
  13. Bill - I think you owe it to everyone to e-mail EVERYONE asking them to remove the frequent checks, many users explained valid reasons for needing this. For example, if I had not checked the board, I would not know this was beign discussed, I bet the majority of the 1 second crowd still don't, said a different way how can people take action to reduce to the new 30 second standard if you don't tell them? Why don't you try doing something simpler first and ask people to reduce the strain on the server by having the people who have no idea this discussion is taking place - like almost all users - requested to reduce the frequency of checks via e-mail. If you don't approach the abusers and impair the other users, that is just foolish and silly. I think you are much smarter than this bill, which is why I ask ask you to send a global e-mail to all clients askign them to reduce the freqeuncy, thank you. If you want to remain a customer focused organization, you should listen to the good users. Thanks again. btw...one more arguement against the chat suggestion...don't chat programs put more strain on a server than e-mail at 5-10 seconds...I've been told so by some people.
  14. My third and fourth pennies: "frequently have numerous quick e-mails back and forth with my clients" I tell my clients constantly, "Use the right tool for the job." Chat is chat, email is email. Install phpChat onto your site so that those quick communiques may be facilitated. "I should not be able to have instant e-mail on a free service like Yahoo and have considerably worse and infrequent service on a web host and domain that I pay for" My opinion is just the opposite. Because Yahoo does things like that, they create an instability for all users. I see the TCH move here as being protective. Protecting the server stability for the good of all. THAT is what you are paying for. MY opinions. Lianna These are professional business people, e-mail *is* the right and only tool for this, thank you. Maybe if you actually used things in an actual business setting you would suggest something so laughable. Most, if not all, of these people would be considered goofing off by their employers if chat was found in thier daily internet usage logs. I'm not going to suggest to people that they get fired because my web host desires to avoid handling a problem properly. Thanks for the suggestion, but it like the proposal, it is completely unacceptable. If you want to add more harsh language to deter spammers and then act upon it so that Total Choice is not the spammers host of choice, that is great and the proper road here.
  15. I agree that checking e-mail every one second might be way too much (not to mention I current am set to 30 seconds when logged in and would have zero clue how to set it to a faster speed as I use 100% webmail due to travel ), however you should keep in mind some things before imposing what I think would be a very poor decision in terms of futre referrals and customer service image if you go anywhere past 30 seconds. Having anything longer than 30 seconds would be rather unacceptable to me. I think that for you to continue to be a leading small business web host that anything past thirty seconds is hurting some customers alot due to the 1 second abusers. I would support an immediate 30 second level check so that the true abusers are not affectign the normal users. Set it to 30 seconds and see what happens. Anything longer than that makes me seriously question Total Choice's commitment to being a top-tier small business webhost - as I frequently have numerous quick e-mails back and forth with my clients. I should not be able to have instant e-mail on a free service like Yahoo and have considerably worse and infrequent service on a web host and domain that I pay for, that is just plain wrong in so many ways I don't know where to start. So, again, please do not make a poor decision and go to longer than 30 seconds, it will cause many people to reconsider thier choice of web host. Thank you for seriously listening to my opinion and acting in a rational fashion. I also have the need to occasionally send one mass e-mail, so server level limits to play policeman for the frequent abusers are again not the way to go.
